Looking to stay at a Choice hotel soon? You may be targeted with a chance to take advantage of Choice Privileges’ newest points sale, which will give you a bonus once you log in to your account.

Here’s a look at everything you should know.

Offer Details

Choice Privileges frequently offers either a discount or bonus on purchased points, though the amount will vary. This time we’re seeing a bonus of 35% on purchased points, which will drop the cost of buying points to 0.76 cents each.

  • Buy 6,000 to 19,000 points, get a 25% bonus
  • Buy 20,000+ points, get a 35% bonus

This promotion is valid through September 22, 2023, and you can buy up to 180,000 points per year.

Hot Tip:

Choice Privileges points are sold through Points.com, so it won’t code as a travel or hotel purchase. To get the best return when purchasing Choice Privileges points, use an everyday card like the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card to earn 2x miles or the Chase Freedom Unlimited® to earn 1.5% cash-back

Is It Worth It?

Though there isn’t a ton of buzz around Choice Privileges points, there are absolutely some cases in which buying these can make sense. Choice Hotels has thousands of properties across the world. While many of these aren’t ultra-high-end, you can score some good value.

There are a few things to know about redeeming Choice Privileges points in general:

  • You can only book reward rooms within 100 days of travel
  • Choice doesn’t charge more for additional guests (up to the capacity limit)
  • Suites cost the same as standard rooms in points

Here’s a look at the Kohea Kai Maui, Ascend Hotel Collection, an oceanfront resort in Hawaii. For 2 guests in October, room rates start at $272 per night.

If you add a total of 4 guests to the room, you’ll exceed the maximum occupancy. You’ll need to book a suite for roughly $327 per night.

Alternatively, you can redeem 30,000 Choice Privileges points per night for the same 1-bedroom suite with a kitchen.

Rather than paying upwards of $327 per night for the same room, you can purchase 31,050 Choice Privileges Points per night for just $236.90 — nearly 30% off of the cash rate.

Other Ways To Earn Choice Privileges Points

Besides purchasing points, there are a few other ways to earn Choice Privileges points. Those who hold either the Citi Prestige® Card or the Citi Premier® Card can transfer their Citi ThankYou Points to Choice Privileges at a 1:2 ratio, which means 1 Citi ThankYou Point becomes 2 Choice Privileges points. Other ThankYou Points-earning cardholders can transfer at a 1:1.5 ratio.

You can also transfer your American Express Membership Rewards points or Capital One miles at a 1:1 ratio, though these are arguably an inferior use of points.

Final Thoughts

Choice Privileges has launched another targeted points sale offering a bonus or discount on purchased points. If you’d like to take advantage of the latest sale, do so sooner rather than later — it ends on September 22, 2023.
