Delta Air Lines announced on September 26 that it would launch nonstop flights to Porto, Portugal (OPO) from New York City (JFK) next spring. Porto, in the north of Portugal, is famous for its river cruises, quaint old town, and access to Portugal’s wine country.

“Delta’s new nonstop service from JFK to Porto is part of seven new European routes launching next summer, giving customers even more opportunities to experience Europe and enjoy our award-winning service and premium onboard experience,” said Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Delta Expanding To New European Destinations

Delta Air Lines will begin daily flights from New York (JFK) to Porto (OPO) on May 21, 2026.

Delta will operate the 4-cabin Boeing 767-300 on the route, featuring Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort, and Main Cabin. This is also notable because there are relatively few options for a lie-flat seat direct from the U.S. to Porto at present.

Porto will become the second Portuguese city served by Delta. The airline already flies year-round to Lisbon (LIS) from New York and seasonally from Boston (BOS).

The new route is part of Delta’s European expansion. In recent months, the airline has announced a flurry of new flights and increased frequencies.

These include flights from Boston to Madrid (MAD) and Nice (NCE), as well as direct flights between Seattle (SEA) and Barcelona (BCN) and Rome (FCO). The airline also added Malta (MLA) and Sardinia (OLB) in Italy after SkyMiles members and Delta employees voted to select the airline’s next European route.

While Delta is expanding in some markets, others are getting cut altogether. Delta will end flights between New York and Geneva (GVA) next month, as reported by Ishrion Aviation on X.

How To Book

Unfortunately, we aren’t seeing flights available on either Delta.com or Google Flights.

We’ll keep an eye out and update this post when flights go live, but in the meantime, let’s go over how to earn Delta SkyMiles so you can book these flights with miles. Here are some of the best ways to earn SkyMiles to redeem for award flights:

Hot Tip:

As Delta is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, you can book award flights with partners such as Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Air France-KLM Flying Blue.

Final Thoughts

Delta’s transatlantic expansion continues with the launch of new nonstop flights to Porto, Portugal, one of Europe’s most exciting cities. While flights don’t appear to be available just yet, this is still pretty exciting news for Delta flyers who will have an opportunity to earn and redeem SkyMiles on the route and access a new destination without needing a connection.
