I don’t necessarily stay 60 paid nights in Hyatt hotels annually. I’ve held top-tier status with several hotel programs over the years, but each year, my main goal is to retain my World of Hyatt Globalist status. For the way my family and I travel, it consistently delivers the most value.

To earn Globalist, I need 60 qualifying nights in a calendar year. Once I hit that threshold, here’s what I unlock:

• Complimentary breakfast or club lounge access for up to 2 adults and 2 children
• Waived resort fees, including on award stays
• Complimentary parking on award stays
• 4 p.m. late checkout at most properties
• Space-available upgrades, including standard suites
• 4 confirmed Suite Upgrade Awards at milestones

My Favorite Hyatt Globalist Benefit

These perks materially reduce the cost of our trips. The Suite Upgrade Awards, in particular, are a huge reason I prioritize Hyatt. These certificates let me confirm a standard suite at the time of booking, even on a points stay. I don’t have to worry about an upgrade clearing at check-in; instead, it’s locked in the moment I reserve the room.

For example, we’re staying at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa for 6 nights over spring break. I redeemed Hyatt points for the stay and immediately applied a Suite Upgrade Award.

Our suite was confirmed right away.

If I paid cash for that same suite, it would easily cost thousands more than a standard room over 6 nights. Add in breakfast for 5 each morning, waived resort fees, bonus points earnings, and consistent elite recognition, and the value adds up quickly.

How the Bonus Journeys Promotion Works

The World of Hyatt Bonus Journeys promotion is Hyatt’s annual global offer that awards bonus points on eligible stays during a limited window. This year, it runs from February 2 through April 15, and it’s one of the more generous versions we’ve seen:

• Earn 3,000 bonus points for every 3 qualifying nights at Hyatt properties worldwide (up to 21,000 bonus points total)
• Earn an additional 1,000 bonus points for every 3 nights at Hyatt Place and Hyatt Select properties (up to 7,000 bonus points total)

Registration is required, but once you’re enrolled, the bonuses stack — and that’s where this becomes strategic.

Why I’m Prioritizing Hyatt Stays Right Now

For example, if I stay at a Hyatt Place during the promo period, I’m effectively earning 4,000 bonus points for every 3 nights. And because award nights count toward elite status with Hyatt, I can use points for the stay, earn points back through the promotion, and still move closer to 60 nights.

Here’s how I look at it: A Category 1 Hyatt hotel starts at 3,500 points per night. If I book and stay for 3 nights at a Category 1 property, it’ll cost me 10,500 points. With 4,000 points earned back through Bonus Journeys, my net cost drops to 6,500 points — just over 2,100 points to earn 1 elite night.

I’m not booking random mattress runs (when you book a hotel night solely for the perks, not the stay) just for the sake of it. But since I already have travel plans, I’m intentionally shifting any unbooked hotel stays to Hyatt while this promotion is live.

The goal is simple: lower my effective cost per elite night early in the year and build momentum toward requalifying for Globalist status.
