Marriott Bonvoy is making a massive investment in China, with the addition of more than 2 dozen hotels which will open by the end of next year.

Here’s what you need to know.

Marriott Already Has 400+ Hotels Across China

Marriott announced on November 15, 2022, that it was expanding its “select service” portfolio in China by adding 30 hotels across the country by the end of 2023.

The hotel chain says it will expand its presence in Shanghai, one of the most popular destinations in China, and add hotels in second and third-tier cities like Foshan and Changchun.

Select Service hotels include Moxy Hotels, Fairfield by Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott, Four Points by Sheraton, AC Hotels by Marriott, Aloft Hotels, and Element Hotels. These brands can already be found in 67 cities across the Greater China region.

Marriott already has a massive presence across China, with more than 460 existing properties across 23 brands in 120 cities.

Some of the properties opening soon include the 135-room AC Hotels by Marriott in Suzhou, which opens in December 2022. Additionally, 10 Fairfield hotels will be coming to eastern China next year, in destinations such as Kunshan and Zhuji. The Courtyard Marriott will open new properties in Chongli, the site of the skiing events at this year’s Winter Olympics, and Jiuzhaigou in the middle of 2023.

In announcing the news, Marriott says it sees “great growth potential” in providing lower-cost hotel choices in emerging destinations such as China.

“Representing over 50 percent of Marriott International hotels expected to open in Greater China across 2022 and 2023, our select-service brand portfolio is a growth engine for the company as we continue to expand,” said Gavin Yu, the chief development officer of Greater China at Marriott.

If you’re considering a stay at one of these new properties, make sure you have enough Marriott Bonvoy points. Luckily, they’re some of the easiest to earn because you can open a Marriott-branded credit card, transfer points from American Express and Chase, or join the Eat Around Town program, among other things.

Marriott’s expansion in China is excellent news for travelers, particularly Bonvoy members. Now, travelers will have more choices in one of the busiest countries in Asia. While we’re still learning more details, be on the lookout for these new properties to open throughout 2023!
