Gone are the glory days of casino status matches, through which savvy travelers could match credit cards and hotel elite status back and forth forever. We always knew the good times couldn’t last, but at least MGM is back with a limited-time promotion offering status matches to eligible guests.

Let’s take a look at the promotion, its requirements, and whether it’s worth diving in.

New MGM Status Match Promotion

MGM has a couple dozen properties spread out across the United States, with most locations in either Las Vegas or Atlantic City. However, the properties accept loyalty cards from casinos all over the U.S. — though the requirements for this status match are a little different than what you’d find in the past.

  • Match from now until July 31, 2025
  • Must match from one of the eligible casinos
  • Receive either MGM Gold or Platinum status
  • Matched status is valid for 90 days
  • Must meet challenge requirements to extend beyond 90 days
  • Open to new or existing MGM Rewards members
  • Matched statuses don’t receive dining credit or cruise benefit

Previous status matches with MGM have required that you be a new member, so it’s nice to see an option for those who’ve matched before.

To meet the challenge requirements, you must do the following within your 90-day trial period:

  • Gold: Earn 50,000 Tier Credits
  • Platinum: Earn 150,000 Tier Credits

Tier Credits are earned through spending at the casinos, whether that’s gambling, paying for a hotel room, or other expenses.

Is It Worth It?

MGM elite status has quite a few benefits. Even at the lower-tier Gold level (which is what most people will probably be aiming for), you’ll get waived resort fees, priority check-in, free concert tickets, free valet parking, and more.

However, MGM has made it more difficult to match to this status. In the past, those with a Wyndham Rewards® Earner℠ Business Card were able to match over to Caesars Diamond status and then to MGM Gold. That path has closed, as have many other loopholes for getting casino elite status quickly.

Even with Marriott’s new MGM partnership, the benefits you’ll get as an elite member are slim.

Still, if you want to take advantage of this status match and don’t have a corresponding casino status at the ready, it’s worth noting that FoundersCard Elite members get complimentary Wynn Platinum status.

That corresponds to MGM Gold status with this new match promotion, but don’t forget that you’ll need to earn 50,000 Tier Credits to keep it past 90 days.

Final Thoughts

MGM Rewards has launched a new status match promotion allowing new and existing members to upgrade their status. With status from a competing casino, you can match up to MGM Platinum status — though even at MGM Gold level you’ll still receive quite a few benefits.
