Gone are the days of fighting with clunky 1990s-style websites to move your Avios from here to there. Now, there’s an easy-to-use tool for transferring Avios between programs.

Even better, it removes the need for some of the 2-step transfers, sending from program A to B just so you can move them to program C — though that’s not entirely gone.

Here’s a look at the new tool and how it works.

Which Programs Use Avios?

If you aren’t aware, there are several airline programs that use Avios, and you can move Avios between these accounts freely and instantly — so long as the account name matches at each airline.

The following rewards programs use Avios as a currency and permit sharing your Avios between them:

Transferring Avios between some of these programs hasn’t worked for the past week due to claims of fraud and ongoing IT issues. However, the process was never very smooth because some of these sites had … let’s call them … outdated … websites. Now, that has changed.

Hot Tip:

Transferring Avios to other accounts is one of the best ways to use up small balances of Avios because a few Avios here and a few Avios there can be combined to make a sufficient balance for something useful — even a cheap award flight.

How To Use the New Avios Transfer Tool

The new tool for moving Avios between accounts is available at avios.com/move/transfer-avios, and it’s much easier to use than the previous options.

First, you’ll choose which program you want to move Avios from — the account you’re sending Avios away from and into another program.

I used Iberia in this example. After choosing a program, you’ll click on the “Next” button. This took me to log in to my Club Iberia Plus account. After logging in, I was required to set up 2-factor authentication (2FA) to secure my account.

The next screen gave me an option for where I wanted to send my Avios. I chose British Airways.

I already had 2FA set up on my British Airways Club account, and I received a text message to confirm my identity. Since I had already linked my accounts, my account numbers and balances were already available. If you haven’t previously linked your accounts, you’ll need to provide the account numbers before proceeding. Note that the names on the accounts must match in order to link them and transfer Avios.

After entering the number of Avios I wanted to transfer, I clicked on the “Transfer” button. There was no page to review details before transferring — simply a confirmation page that I was done. Thus, you should ensure everything is correct before clicking the button.

I received my transferred Avios instantly, which is typical for transfers between Avios partners.

Final Thoughts

Rejoice, because you can now use this simple tool for moving Avios around. It also brings the good news that transfers between British Airways and Iberia are once again possible — something that had stopped working for the past week.

If you need to move Avios from where they are to where you want them to be — or combine small balances into a single account — for an upcoming redemption, it’s now easier than ever.
