Update: The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.
If your stash of World of Hyatt points has seen better days, the latest purchase promotion presents a great opportunity for you to replenish your stockpile.
Here are the details of World of Hyatt’s latest point purchase promotion, and how to decide if it makes sense for you to purchase points.
30% Discount on World of Hyatt Points
Through Points.com, you can now receive a 30% discount when purchasing 5,000 or more World of Hyatt points until May 30, 2022.
This drops the price of purchasing Hyatt points from 2.4 cents per point to a much more reasonable 1.68 cents per point.
Here are the terms to be aware of:
- In order to participate in a purchase transaction, you must be a World of Hyatt member for at least 60 days to purchase or receive Bonus Points
- Bonus Points can be purchased in increments of 1,000, up to 55,000 points per calendar year
- The promotion ends May 30, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. EST
Remember that, since the promotion is handled through Points.com, you won’t receive bonus category points for paying for the points with The World of Hyatt Credit Card or the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card — so you should opt for whichever card you use for non-bonus purchases.
Should You Purchase World of Hyatt Points?
Hyatt Centric Key West Resort. Image Credit: Katie SeemannThat depends! We value World of Hyatt points at 1.5 cents per point, though it is often possible to get quite a bit more value than that. Since this promotion will allow you to purchase points for 1.68 cents per point, you’ll want to make sure the redemption that you have lined up will get you more value than that.
One great sweet spot here is purchasing the points needed for a Category 1 hotel stay. Since Category 1 hotels cost just 5,000 points per night on standard nights, purchasing the 5,000 points needed for the night would set you back just $84 — which is often far less than the price of even the most basic Hyatt hotels.
This isn’t exactly the most glamorous redemption, but it can be an excellent and practical way to save money whether you’re visiting family in a smaller city or on a road trip and just need a place to crash for the night.
Hot Tip:Don’t forget that you might not need to purchase points at all if you already have a sizeable balance of Chase Ultimate Rewards points, as these points transfer to the World of Hyatt program at a 1:1 rate.
Final Thoughts
Like always, whether or not it makes sense to purchase points is on a case-by-case basis. If you already have a large balance of World of Hyatt or Chase Ultimate Rewards points, or you don’t have an immediate use for World of Hyatt points, then this is probably a promotion to skip.
On the other hand, if your World of Hyatt points are dwindling and you have your eye on an upcoming redemption that would provide significant cash savings, then purchasing World of Hyatt points at a 30% discount might be the way to go!
