Qatar Airways Adds 30% Bonus for Avios Transfers to Marriott Bonvoy — But It’s Still Not Worth It

If you’ve been eyeing ways to top up your Marriott Bonvoy balance, Qatar Airways has launched a new offer — but it’s not quite the win it may seem to be.

From October 15 through November 15, 2025, Qatar Airways Privilege Club members can earn a 30% bonus when converting Avios to Marriott Bonvoy points.

It sounds like an easy way to earn some extra points, but when you break down the numbers, this transfer turns out to be a poor deal. Let’s take a look.

The 30% Qatar Airways Avios to Marriott Bonvoy Transfer Explained

Qatar Airways’ Privilege Club and Marriott Bonvoy introduced their 2-way transfer partnership in 2024, allowing members to transfer rewards between the programs.

Now, Qatar Airways is offering a limited-time bonus: between October 15 and November 15, 2025, you’ll receive a 30% boost when transferring Avios to Marriott Bonvoy.

Here’s how the math works:

  • Normally, 1,000 Avios = 500 Marriott Bonvoy points.
  • With this promo, you’ll get an extra 30% bonus, so 1,000 Avios = 650 Marriott Bonvoy points (500 + 150 bonus points).

On paper, that appears to be a solid bump. But when you crunch the numbers, it’s not nearly as rewarding as it sounds.

We typically value Avios at around 1.25 cents each, meaning 1,000 Avios equates to $12.50 in value. In comparison, Marriott Bonvoy points are worth approximately 0.7 cents each, so 650 points are equivalent to $4.55. That means you’re effectively losing about 60% of your value in the transfer — even with the 30% bonus included.

In other words, you’d be trading $12.50 worth of Avios for less than $5 in Marriott points. That’s a tough sell unless you’re absolutely desperate for a small top-up to redeem Marriott Bonvoy points for an upcoming stay.

Hot Tip:

If you need to earn Marriott Bonvoy points, you’re far better off transferring from Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, or Bilt Rewards — all of which convert at a 1:1 ratio. Alternatively, it’s smarter to save your Avios for flight redemptions with Oneworld partners, where you can often get 4 to 6 cents per point in value on premium awards.

Final Thoughts

While having more flexibility between travel programs is always beneficial, the 30% transfer bonus from Avios to Marriott Bonvoy doesn’t make sense. The math works against you, and you’ll lose a significant portion of your points’ value. Keep your Avios for flight awards and let this bonus pass you by.
