Spirit Airlines continues to evolve, adjusting its route network after emerging from bankruptcy and working toward profitability. Now, the carrier will launch 3 new routes in August, going up against Delta on 2 of the routes and becoming the only carrier offering nonstop service on the third.

Here’s a look at Spirit’s latest route additions.

New Spirit Airlines Routes for August

Spirit Airlines is launching 3 new routes in August, as first reported by Ishrion Aviation. New routes start as early as August 13 and form part of Spirit’s plan to return to profitability after emerging from bankruptcy earlier this year.

Spirit will compete with Delta Air Lines on 2 of these routes. The route from Minneapolis (MSP) to Myrtle Beach (MYR) is also served by Sun Country Airlines. Interestingly, Spirit will be the only airline providing nonstop service between Reno (RNO) and San Diego (SAN).

How To Book

Flights are available for sale on Spirit’s website and can be found on Google Flights. The cheapest flight is the Reno-San Diego service, available for $56 one-way on some dates.

Remember that Spirit is a low-cost carrier and charges for everything but the seat when you book the cheapest fares. Make sure to consider baggage fees for carry-on and checked luggage — everything bigger than a personal item — choosing your seat in advance, and other extras when considering the cost of a flight.

It’s possible to book all Spirit Airlines flights with Free Spirit points to keep costs down, including these new routes.

Hot Tip:

When paying for a flight, make sure to use a credit card with extra rewards on airfare purchases to get a good return on spending via extra points or cash-back from your ticket.

Final Thoughts

Spirit Airlines continues to modify its route network, and the latest change sees the airline launching 3 new routes in August. Spirit will be the only carrier on 1 of these routes, while it’s competing with Delta and Sun Country on the others.
