Quickly growing Taiwanese carrier Starlux Airlines has announced a new interline partnership with American Airlines, which should provide more seamless travel for passengers flying between North America and Asia.

“The partnership will greatly expand STARLUX’s reach into the U.S., with customers accessing American’s vast North American network. It will also increase travel choices for American Airlines customers looking to travel to Taipei,” said Starlux CEO Glenn Chai.

Here’s everything you need to know about this new linkup.

Starlux and American Form New Partnership

Taipei-based Starlux Airlines has entered into an interline agreement with American Airlines. This means that customers on both airlines can expect more seamless journeys.

The tie-up will allow passengers on either airline to book itineraries between North America and Asia on a single ticket, and baggage can be checked through to a traveler’s final destination, even if the journey involves travel on both carriers.

Starlux currently has a small North American network, with nonstop flights from its Taipei (TPE) hub to Los Angeles (LAX), Ontario (ONT), San Francisco (SFO), and Seattle (SEA). However, it recently announced a nonstop route to Phoenix (PHX), a major hub for American Airlines, that’s slated to begin on January 15, 2026.

Starlux says its soon-to-launch Phoenix flights are specifically timed to enable easy connections to American’s extensive North American network and Starlux’ beyond Taipei.

Remember, too, that Starlux has a partnership with Alaska Airlines, another Oneworld alliance carrier with its principal hub in Seattle — which is also a Starlux gateway in North America. This partnership is deeper than the interline with American, allowing for reciprocal mileage earning and redeeming on either carrier.

Taken together, this series of moves by Starlux reinforces the airline’s intention to join the Oneworld alliance. And that makes sense, given that its cross-town rivals, China Airlines and EVA Air, are members of the SkyTeam alliance and Star Alliance, respectively.

Hot Tip:

Starlux flies Airbus A350s between the U.S. and Taipei. These aircraft are equipped with 4 seats in first class, 26 in business class, 36 in premium economy, and 240 in economy.

Final Thoughts

Taiwan’s start-up carrier Starlux Airlines continues to make waves in North America. The formation of an interline partnership with American Airlines (and its existing relationship with Alaska Airlines) signals that the carrier is keen to grow more in the market, especially given that it will soon fly to one of AA’s most important hub airports.

Deeper cooperation may be coming between Starlux and American. For now, this interline agreement should make trips easier for passengers traveling between North America and Asia.
