Walmart announced that the perk would launch in September.

The Paramount+ Essential perk gives Walmart+ subscribers access to live sports games, original content such as “1883” and “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” and more.

A Paramount+ Essential membership typically costs $4.99 per month. There’s also an option to pay $49.99 annually, which represents a 16% discount compared to paying monthly.

It’s not yet clear when the offer will go live in September and how existing Walmart+ customers will link their subscriptions to their Paramount+ Essential accounts to claim this new benefit.

If you aren’t familiar with Walmart+, which launched in September of 2020, you should be — particularly if you have a specific American Express card.

That’s because those who have  The Platinum Card® from American Express receive a complimentary subscription to the service. The service costs $12.95 monthly, meaning cardholders can save a whopping $155 annually on the membership.

Walmart+ members receive the following benefits and perks as part of membership:

  • Free shipping on items with no minimum purchase requirement (excluding items not shipped by Walmart), resulting in a savings of over $500 per year
  • Complimentary grocery delivery with a $35 order minimum
  • Select prescriptions for as little as $0 and save up to 85% on thousands more at Walmart pharmacies
  • Save 10¢ per gallon on fuel at Walmart, Murphy, Exxon, and Mobil stations, resulting in a savings of over $75 per year with member prices.
  • Access to “Scan & go” contact-free checkout
  • Early access to special promotions and events, including online Black Friday deals, product releases, and more

Walmart says subscribers can save $816 per year on average. To learn more about the subscription service, you can visit walmart.com/plus. If you’re an existing Amex Platinum cardholder and haven’t activated your free Walmart+ membership, you can do so by visiting this page.
