No one wants to be in a position where you have to cancel your flight. Unfortunately, this is a reality that many of us will have to deal with at one point or another.

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to cancel your flight with Frontier Airlines, by doing a bit of preparation in advance you can really save yourself a lot of headaches, and money, if you do end up needing to cancel.

Cancellation Policies Due to COVID-19

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, any tickets:

  • Issued between March 10, 2020, to April 15, 2020, can be changed or canceled once without penalty
  • Issued between July 2, 2020, and July 31, 2020, will be allowed 1 free change (including cancellation) when the change is made 7 or more days before departure
  • Issued between August 31, 2020, and September 30, 2020, will be allowed 1 free change when the change is made 7 or more days prior to departure
  • Issued between December 22, 2020, and March 31, 2021, will not incur change or cancellation fees

View the full change policy here. If you booked via a third party, refer to your booking provider for its policies.

With cancellation policies due to COVID-19 being ever-changing, for the most up-to-date policies across all airlines, please refer to our COVID-19 Airline Cancellations article.

Frontier’s Cancellation Policy: Flights Paid With Cash or Points

All tickets may be canceled for a full refund up to 24 hours after the time of purchase with no cancellation fees.

Standard Tickets

If it has been less than 24 hours since the time you originally purchased the ticket, you can cancel at no cost to you.

If you need to cancel or change your flight 60+ days prior to departure, you will incur no costs to do so. If you need to cancel or change your flight 59 to 7 days prior to departure, you will incur a reduced fee of $49 per passenger to do so. If the booking is canceled within 6 days of travel, a $79 cancellation fee will apply. Any bookings made between December 22, 2020, and March 31, 2021, will not incur cancellation fees.

Your ticket will retain its value for 90 days, and the value of your ticket may be applied toward the purchase of a future ticket. If you fail to show up for your flight or fail to cancel your ticket prior to the departure, you will forfeit the remaining value of the ticket.

Cancellation Timeframe Cancellation Fee
Less than 24 hours after purchase$0
60+ days prior to departure$0
59 to 7 days prior to departure$49
6 days or less prior to departure (including same day)$79

The WORKS Bundle

Did you purchase the WORKS add-on bundle when you purchased your ticket? If so, you can cancel your ticket without paying any cancellation fees. When you cancel your flight you will retain the value of your ticket for use within 1 year of the transaction date on a future Frontier flight. Keep in mind that in order to request a refund, you will need to fill out an online refund request form.

In addition to the added flexibility, passengers who purchase the WORKS bundle also receive a free carry-on bag, a checked bag, seat selection, and priority boarding. So if you think you may need to cancel your flight, and you’re planning to bring baggage anyways, purchasing the WORKS bundle can be a great option.

Pricing for the WORKS ranges from $49 to $69 each way for direct flights, and $57 to $83 each way for connecting flights.

Award Tickets

If you would like to cancel your award ticket, you may cancel your itinerary and redeposit your Frontier Miles back into your account for a $75 redeposit fee (waived for bookings made between December 22, 2020, and March 31, 2021). Redeposit fees are non-refundable and tickets must be canceled prior to departure of the flight to retain their value.

Hot Tip: If you’re an elite member with Frontier and purchased a “Last Seat Award,” the cancellation fee is waived for you.

Frontier’s Change Policy: Flights Paid With Cash or Points

Standard Tickets

If you change your flight 60+ days prior to departure, you will incur no costs to do so. If you need to change your flight 59 to 7 days prior to departure, you will incur a reduced fee of $49 per passenger to do so. If you need to cancel or change your flight 6 days or less prior to departure, you will incur the normal fee of $79 per passenger. Any bookings made between December 22, 2020, and March 31, 2021, will not incur change fees.

Change Timeframe Change Fee
Less than 24 hours after purchase$0
60+ days prior to departure$0
59 to 7 days prior to departure$49
6 days or less prior to departure (including same day)$79

Keep in mind that if you’re changing to a more expensive flight, you will be responsible for any difference in airfare price.  However, if you’re changing to a less expensive flight, you will not receive any sort of credit or refund for the difference in fare.

Changing to a different flight on the same day? Frontier offers a “Same Day Confirmed” alternative flight option for a flat fee of $59. This is offered at no additional charge for Frontier Miles Elite members, or for those who purchased the WORKS add-on.

The WORKS Bundle

Similar to its canceled ticket policy, if you’ve purchased the WORKS bundle you can make changes to your itinerary without needing to pay any additional fees. However, you will still be responsible for any difference in the airfare price.

Award Tickets

If you change your award ticket 8 or more days prior to travel, you will not incur a change fee. If there are 7 days or less until your flight, you will need to pay a change fee of $99 (waived for bookings made between December 22, 2020, and March 31, 2021).

How to Cancel a Frontier Ticket

Step 1: Log into your account on Frontier’s homepage and select “My Trips” or “Bookings.”

Step 2: Once you’ve selected the trip you want to cancel, select “Cancel Booking.”

Step 3: The next screen will ask you to confirm that you want to cancel your booking. After you click confirm then your booking will officially be canceled.

Step 4: Finally, if you’re canceling your ticket and purchased the WORKS bundle, you have to request to receive your refund through an online refund request form. Don’t forget to do this as you will not receive your refund without filling out the form!

If you don’t want to cancel your booking online and prefer to have a phone agent assist you, you can contact Frontier Reservations at 801-401-9000.

How to Use Frontier Flight Credit

If you have a flight credit from a previous flight that you need to use, first start a new booking on the Frontier website. Once you’ve found the flight you want to book and reach the payment screen, select “HAVE FRONTIER CREDIT” and enter the six-digit confirmation code for the credit (this will be the confirmation code from the original booking).

A few helpful things to keep in mind with your Frontier credits:

  • Credits are not redeemable for cash.
  • Credits from a reservation that purchased the WORKS expire 1 year from the date of issue.
  • Credits are 1-time use, meaning there will be no remaining value after redemption. This means if you use a $120 credit to purchase a $100 flight, you cannot use the remaining $20 towards a future flight.
  • Credits are non-transferable and may only be redeemed in the name of the passenger to whom it was issued.

Final Thoughts

If you’re worried that you may need to cancel your flight, need the flexibility of being able to change, plus are planning to bring baggage with you, then purchasing the WORKS bundle with Frontier might just be your best option. Not only do you have the option to change or cancel your flight and receive a refund, but you’ll also receive a carry-on bag, a checked bag, seat selection, and priority boarding.

Having to deal with canceling a flight can be very stressful, so make sure you plan in advance and know all of your options. If it comes down to it, and you’ve planned accordingly, you may just end up saving yourself a significant amount of money.

Frequently Asked Questions

That depends entirely on what type of ticket you’ve purchased.

If it has been less than 24 hours since the time you originally purchased the ticket, you can cancel at no cost to you.

If you purchased a standard ticket and need to cancel or change your flight 60+ days prior to departure, you will not have to pay a fee. If you need to cancel or change your flight 59 to 7 days prior to departure, you will pay a fee of $39 per passenger to do so. If you purchased your flight 6 days or less before it’s scheduled departure and need to cancel, the cost to do so it $59.

However, if you purchased the WORKS add-on, you can cancel your ticket without paying any cancellation fees.

Yes, all customers will have 24 hours from the time of their original booking to cancel their reservation without being charged a cancellation fee, regardless of fare selected.

Yes, you can get a refund if you cancel your flight and previously purchased the WORKS add-on. Keep in mind that the refund will be in the form of a Frontier airfare credit and not returned directly back to you. You will retain the value of your ticket for use within 1 year of the transaction date on a future Frontier flight.

This depends if your flight is canceled due to a controllable or uncontrollable situation.

Controllable situations are defined as delays, diversions, cancellations, or service delivery failures considered within Frontier’s control (such as delayed baggage or flight delays and cancellations caused by some types of aircraft damage, mechanical issues, etc.). If your flight is canceled due to a controllable situation you may be able to receive compensation, along with a full refund of any unused portion of your ticket.

Uncontrollable situations are defined as flight delays, diversions, or cancellations out of Frontier’s control (such as those caused by weather, Air Traffic Control, aircraft damage caused by occurrences out of Frontier’s control, such as bird strikes, etc.). Frontier does not offer compensation for uncontrollable events beyond the re-accommodation on the next available Frontier flight. Alternatively, if your flight is canceled, Frontier will provide you with a full refund of any unused portion of your ticket.

If you purchased the WORKS bundle, canceled your ticket, and were issued a credit, that credit will expire 1 year from date of issue. Credits are 1-time use, meaning there will be no remaining value after redemption, even if you don’t use all of it.

If you cancel a ticket bought with the works will you receive a full refund of the fare, taxes, and bundle cost or just the fare or fare/taxes?

Jarrod West

November 18, 2019

Hi Vic,

If you’ve purchased ‘the works’, you should retain the value of your ticket (and taxes) for use within 1 year of the transaction date on a future Frontier flight.

Thanks for this article, Jarrod. I purchased cheap tickets for a one-way trip for $30, but won’t be able to go. Canceling at this point would be a $119 fee, so I would rather lose the $30 as a no-show than pay for a $119 cancellation/change fee. Do you know whether Frontier Airline charges a no-show fee (that is, will they put a new penalty charge on my credit card)?

Jarrod West

November 18, 2019

Hi Mike,

Frontier Airlines should not charge you a no-show fee for missing your flight. Thanks for reading!

I booked a flight yesterday but I used a travel voucher and a travel credit if I cancel will that be returned to me?

Jarrod West

June 22, 2020

Hi Shakyra,

Unfortunately, they will not be returned to you if you cancel as Frontier vouchers and travel credits are non-refundable.

I booked a flight for this New Years and I now won’t be able to go. I didn’t not by the works on my ticket. Will I still be able to have get a flight credit for my ticket? I’m aware I will need to pay for the cancellation fees.

Good article. I cancelled a Frontier flight when a travel companion dropped out. I have 90 days to redeem the flight credit for this cancellation. What’s unfortunate is that Frontier booking only allows me to book through April 2020. I’d like to use this credit to book in winter 2020 or 2021. Do you think I could book something for spring 2020 then cancel that flight thereby gaining another 90 days to use the credit and keep doing that until my desired dates are available?

Jarrod West

December 07, 2019

Thanks for the kind words, Jake! You could try asking Frontier to extend the expiration date for you, they have done it for others in the past.

Thanks for reading!

if i buy a ticket and just add a seat+bag (no bundle) and then cancel the ticket within 24h are all fees refunded?

Jarrod West

December 18, 2019

Hi Boss,

You must purchase “The Works” bundle in order for the fare to be refundable.

Adam

December 25, 2019

Thanks for the post, but I was wondering, in the case of a cancellation (60+ days prior), does one receive a full refund in the original payment form or a refund only in travel credits that expire in 90 days? If it is only good for 90 days, then the new policy really isn’t as generous as it sounds.

Jarrod West

December 26, 2019

Hi Adam,

Frontier only issues refunds in the form of future travel credits. However, if you purchase the works bundle, those travel credits are good for 1 year.

Why would Frontier wait until the very last minute to cancel flights to Minneapolis when all of the other major airlines have cancelled due to a blizzard / winter storm being in effect.

phans

January 20, 2020

I bought 3 round trip tickets but my travel plans changed 7 days prior to departure. 1 person is not going and 2 of us are staying longer than originally planned. I purchased 2 one- way tickets back home.

When reading the policies and FAQs I am very confused. It seems that I cannot cancel the return flight or cancel the 3rd round trip ticket without paying triple what I paid originally. I purchased 3 round trip tickets from MSP to ORL for $211 total. Then I purchased 2 one-way tickets from ORL to MSP for $164 total.

To talk to someone on the phone at Frontier will cost $25 to $50. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Jarrod West

January 21, 2020

Hi Phans,

Unfortunately, with Frontier Airlines, the fee to cancel a ticket that is scheduled to depart within 7 days is $119 per passenger. So in this case, the fee to cancel your tickets would be greater than the amount you paid for them – so it doesn’t make much sense to do so.

Did you book the works package with your tickets by chance? If so you can cancel your tickets without paying any cancellation fees.

Eric

I bought a flight paying 260 dollars. Cancellation up to 14 days costs 79 dollars. Does it mean I get a 180 voucher back or that I have to pay 79 dollars to get a 260 voucher? Also, is the voucher in my name or can I book my sister a flight with it?

Jarrod West

March 08, 2020

Hi Eric,

You should receive a $181 voucher back, as the cancellation fee will be deducted. You should be able to use the voucher to purchase a flight for anyone you’d like.

Yes, Frontier should honor free cancellation for military reasons.

Our cruise is in jeopardy of being canceled. Would we be able to cancel our Frontier flight?

Jarrod West

March 12, 2020

Hi Karen,

You should be able to cancel, but you would likely need to pay the cancellation fee, as Frontier has not offered any sort of cancellation or change fee waivers at this time.

Stephanie White

March 26, 2020

What of I can’t fly within the 90 days after I receive the credit. Will they extend it? Also, can you get a refund for the checked bags and seat selections (as they cost as much or more than the tickets)?

Jarrod West

March 27, 2020

Hi Stephanie,

I cannot say as to whether they will extend it or not, but they usually don’t. The amount for your checked bag and seat selection should be included in the voucher.

Hi Jarrod,

I am cancelling my trip due to the event that I was going to being cancelled. My flight leaves on the 26th so would I still fall under the 14 day $79 cancellation fee or the 13 day $119?

Jarrod West

March 15, 2020

Hi Evelyn,

Frontier has stated that flights booked before March 10, 2020 for travel before April 30, 2020 may be changed. But flight changes can only be made via phone at this time. Their contact number is 801-401-9000.

Justin Easterling

March 19, 2020

My wife, her sister, and myself were planning on traveling from Georgia to Las Vegas on June 25-28. With current events as they are; Las Vegas attractions and casinos closing/ending buffet services, etc, and with the surely heightened airport screening measures, we decided to cancel our trip and save the hassle and headache, plus potential exposure. I canceled our flight (which they had already changed to something much more inconvenient) and requested a monetary refund, not a flight voucher, as we have no plans to travel by plane anytime in the foreseeable future. They stated that they would do a monetary refund, for a fee per passenger, which I’m not thrilled about, but if we received the travel voucher instead, and didn’t use or book anything in the 90 day period, would our purchase THEN be refunded, or would we just be out nearly $800? Thank you for your time, and apologies for the length, just trying to give some context.

Jarrod West

March 20, 2020

Hi Justin,

If you receive a travel voucher and do not book anything within the 90-day expiration window then you will receive nothing. So, if you’re not planning any other travels for the foreseeable future, then the refund might be the way to go.

How am I supposed to cancel my flight is the provided number is always busy and the site says I need to call them? I have been trying to follow their instructions the past 3 days. I am supposed to fly on April 11th, but I cannot due to current COVID-19. Thanks

Jarrod West

March 20, 2020

Hi Peter,

You should be able to cancel your flight through “My Trips” on the Frontier website. That should be much faster than calling.

Jason

March 22, 2020

First of all thank you for fielding these questions during these unsettling times of our lives! My family and I had planned to fly to FL on 4/16 but due to COVID-19 we would like to cancel our flights. They recently sent out emails saying no cancellation fees and offering $50 vouchers if we cancel by 3/23/2020. The only problem is they seem to be requiring that you fly within 90 days. Well there are no flights to FL in 90 days and even if there were I am presuming that this pandemic will not be over in 90 days. If they would offer a voucher for a year from now that would make more sense. I would then be able to consider travel again to FL but not in 90 days. Any insight on this is greatly appreciated!

Jarrod West

March 22, 2020

Hi Jason,

You are correct, their policy of requiring you to fly within 90 days is a bit nonsensical given the current situation. Unfortunately, there appears to be no other recourse at the moment as this is the best that Frontier has offered thus far.

Alan

March 23, 2020

Hi Jarrod,

I am considering taking F9 up on their offer to receive the $50 voucher per passenger if I cancel my flight today. The only problem is that part of my flight was booked with a voucher originally. Their T&C state that vouchers are one-time use only, so when I try to cancel online, it deducts my previous voucher from the credit they’re offering me. Trying to read all of their terms, it seems like even if I wait to see if the flight is canceled, F9 will only ever refund me what I paid for with my credit card; the amount of my previous voucher will become void. I tried messaging F9 on Saturday but haven’t heard from them. Do you have a better read on this?

Jarrod West

March 25, 2020

Hi Alan,

Unfortunately, you’re correct that the stated policy for Frontier is that vouchers are non-refundable. So, if you’re able to get $50, I would take it. I think it is unlikely that Frontier will refund your voucher regardless if the flight is outright canceled or you cancel yourself. In these situations, we always wish that airlines would do right by their customers, but unfortunately, that seldom seems to be the case.

Britni

March 24, 2020

I am having the same issue due to Covid 19. We were going to attend a wedding in Florida and they will not give me a cash refund. They only want to give me a voucher. I explained the situation is out of my hands and they don’t care. They just want to keep my money up in the air for 3 months and what if I don’t travel in three months? Where does my money go?

Jarrod West

March 25, 2020

Hi Britni,

Has your flight been canceled? If so, Frontier is required by law to give you a refund. If they are still planning to operate the flight, but you’re choosing to cancel due to Covid-19 then, unfortunately, the most they are willing to do at the moment is offer a voucher. If you don’t use that voucher within the next 90 days then it will expire.

I know this is extremely frustrating, and we all wish that airlines like Frontier would do the right thing for their customers. But so far that has not been the case. Best of luck!

Rob

March 25, 2020

A flight reservation was made in February for travel in mid April, and checked bags were prepaid at the time of booking. Is the baggage fee refunded (or credited) to a future flight if the present ticket is cancelled in accordance with their current policy? If a future flight is booked using the credit from the cancelled flight and the cost of the future flight is less than the cancelled one can you use the extra money that does not go toward the actual fare and fare fees toward additional baggage or toward their Perks package on the new flight?

Jarrod West

March 26, 2020

Hi Rob,

Yes, you should receive a voucher for the airfare and your checked bags. When you use that voucher in the future you can apply it to airfare, bags, seat selection, the perks package, etc.

Thanks for reading!

I used 20,000 Frontier miles plus paid for checked bag and taxes with cash. Nothing addresses the redeposit fee of $75 and what about the cash portion? Do I get my miles back and then they have to be used within 90 days? What about the cash portion?

Jarrod West

March 26, 2020

Hi Janet,

The $75 redeposit fee is addressed in the post under the canceling an award ticket section. Once you’ve paid that fee, Frontier should redeposit the miles into your account but you should not have to use them within 90 days. As for the cash you paid for the checked bag and taxes, you should receive a voucher for that amount – which will likely need to be used in the next 90 days.

March 28, 2020

Hi Jarrod,
I’d booked a Frontier flight for late March and then cancelled it and received a voucher. All okay there. But, I also scheduled my hotel along with the flight on the Frontier website. I haven’t been able to reach anyone or find any information as to how the hotel stay will be reimbursed. The Hilton website said to cancel through Frontier, but I’m getting nothing after many calls and emails to Frontier. Can you please help with this question? Thank you,
Patty

Jarrod West

March 29, 2020

Hi Patty,

Had the amount for your hotel already been charged to your credit card? If so, then the amount should be refunded in no more than 7-10 days after the cancelation was made. I would continue to monitor it over the next few days, and then reach back out to Frontier if you do not receive the refund.

Deborah Pupillo

March 29, 2020

Hi Jarrod,

I also was scheduled to fly to Vegas April 1, 2020. I also booked my hotel through Frontier. I was able to cancel the flight, but I can’t get help with the hotel. I called the Downtown Grand Las Vegas itself, they made note of the cancellation but can’t actually cancel or reschedule. They informed me it was booked through a third party Expedia. Also for rescheduling to a future date, we paid a lot more then the flights would be future travel. What happens to the balance of the money we paid?

Jarrod West

March 31, 2020

Hi Deborah,

If the hotel booking was made through Expedia, that is who you will need to contact in order to get the hotel canceled. As for your flight change with Frontier, unfortunately, they do not allow for any residual value with their tickets. So, if you reschedule to a cheaper flight, Frontier will not refund you or issue you a credit for the difference.

Here is the contact number for Expedia so you can get the hotel canceled: 1-(877)-227-7481.

Samantha

April 07, 2020

Hi,
My flight was schedule to leave a Sunday in June from FL To DFW, we were leaving at 1. They have now changed our flight to 9am to fly to Denver to have 7 hour lay over and then fly to Dfw. This absolutely does not work for me as this is a work trip. I need to Cancel this flight due to their change not mine. I never fly Frontier so I do not want a credit, any advice ?

Jarrod West

April 08, 2020

Hi Samantha,

In this case, Frontier should allow you to change to a different flight, without needing to pay a change fee, but it is unlikely that they will refund the ticket. Here is their contact number if you want to call and speak to an agent: 1-(801) 401-9000.

Shawna

April 08, 2020

If you get the voucher for a future purchase for 90 days, then use that to book a flight with “The Works” package, would you get a refund/another voucher if you had to cancel that future flight? Or would you be out that voucher? It would be nice if they extended the 90 day voucher to a year. We had a trip to Yellowstone planned for June. We likely won’t reschedule until next June. It sounds like we will be out of our money, as Frontier doesn’t have flights scheduled that far in advance. 🙁

Jarrod West

April 08, 2020

Hi Shawna,

If you purchase a flight with the works package with a voucher then you should be able to change your flight again, without paying any change fees, but you likely will not be able to receive a refund if you decide to cancel as vouchers are non-refundable.

Bonita Dsouza

June 02, 2020

but since you have chosen the works bundle, why can’t you get a refund in the form of a 1 year credit?

I understand you’re using your previous credit (90 days), but you’re also purchasing the works bundle and the works bundle says 100% refundability. so ideally you should be receiving a 1-year credit is what I understand.

Jarrod West

June 05, 2020

Hi Bonita,

Frontier policy states that vouchers are good for a one-time use and are not refundable, even if you use one to purchase “the works” bundle.

I had to cancel my flight to Florida due to the Coronavirus. My credit says it will expire 90 days from 3-23-2020, the day I cancelled it. Does this mean that I have to fly within 90 days or do I have to book something within 90 days. If it means that I have to book within 90 days, how far out can I book the flight?
Thanks

Bruce,

All you need to do is book within the 90 days. You don’t need to complete the travel within 90 days. So you can book sometime in May for travel even through 2021 if available.

If you were issued a credit to be used within 90 days of booking for cancelling a flight, can you use the credit for anyone? IE someone else than the original passenger the ticket was booked for?

Hi Ashley,

Credits are non-transferable and may only be redeemed in the name of the passenger to whom it was issued.

I booked a trip in early Feb and had to cancel which was scheduled for March 20 to travel to Florida. I booked with Expedia and bought the insurance because my husband has severe asthma and not always able to make the flight. I was given a refund through Expedia for the hotel but the airfare was refunded with shell credits with Frontier. What if I don’t use/book a flight in 90 days? I don’t want to lose them but also should not considering how I purchased them with paying for the additional insurance. Most were given a refund without paying for the insurance and not charged due to the pandemic.

Hi,
We had to cancel our trip in March due to the virus and Frontier gave us a $589 credit. I have to book a flight to use that credit before June 21, 2020. All the prices are so high, I can’t rebook the same trip for our family. Can I book 2 tickets to use the credit and then change it to 4 tickets more than 60 days ahead (when they will probably offer sale fares)? Or will Frontier not allow that sort of change/cancellation? I can’t find this answer on their website.
Thank you!!

Hi Carin,

Frontier policy does not allow for changes or cancellation to be made to tickets in which a credit was used to pay for it, unfortunately. So, in this case, I’m doubtful that purchasing 2 tickets and then changing it 4 tickets would work.

So I have a $270 credit in my name (I assume). The original tickets were for myself and my 2 kids. Can I use all $270 on me or does it need to be $90 per person?

Jarrod West

June 22, 2020

Hi Amanda,

You should be able to use all $270 on you since the funds are in your name.

I bought a round trip on Frontier from Philadelphia to Orlando. I’d like to now fly out of Trenton. Since the tickets were only about 30 bucks, can I just not show up in Philly and buy a ticket from Trenton and STILL use my return ticket to philadephia (even though I was a no-show on the original Philadelphia purchase?)

June 28, 2020

Hi Jim,

No, you will not be allowed to do this. If you do not show up for the first leg of your flight then the entire itinerary will be canceled.

We had to change our flight plans in March due to Covid. Unfortunately, we were told we needed to rebook within 90 days. We rebooked for the end of July and our total is nearly $800. We didn’t realize or know about booking the works because we originally booked through a third party site. At this time, we are watching our travel plans become less likely due to the increase of Covid in Texas and the restrictions there becoming stricter. All Frontier honor a cancellation or refund for this without all the ridiculous fees. This is out of our control.

I purchased tickets for myself and my son to go to Mexico in July from SEA to GDL. My flight from Seattle was with delta and they canceled my layover from LAX to GDL which ultimately I had to cancel my ticket since they canceled my layover. My frontier ticket from Gdl back home to SEA isn’t canceled but I no longer need it since my flight to GDL is canceled. Will I get a voucher or my refund from the frontier flight since it isn’t my fault that the flight to gdl got canceled?

Hi Jennifer,

We do not represent Frontier so I cannot speak definitively for them, but it this scenario you will likely receive a Frontier voucher instead of a full refund since, as far as Frontier is concerned, you are choosing to cancel your ticket. I know that is frustrating, but based on my understanding of their policies I believe that is what you’ll receive.

If an award ticket is booked and the works bundle is purchased, will the $75 redeposit fee be waived if we cancel? Thank you.

Jarrod West

October 26, 2020

Hi Mark,

Yes, the redeposit fee should be waived since you’ve purchased the Works.

I received a voucher for our original flight in April 2020 and used that to rebook a flight within their 90 days window to March of 2021, if I now need to change or cancel the March of 2021 flight, will I get another voucher to use or would all the money now be gone since I used the original voucher “one time” already.

October 30, 2020

Hi Chris,

Frontier vouchers are good one-time only and their policy prevents them from being refunded. But given the circumstances of this year, I’d still call Frontier and ask if they will make an exception for you.

Regarding Frontier’s no cancellation fee for bookings between December 22, 2020 and Feb 28, 2021, does that mean that only the ticket needs to be booked during this time? Travel can happen after Feb 28, 2021?

Jarrod West

January 11, 2021

Hi Nancy,

Any ticket purchased prior to February 28th, 2021, should not be subject to any change or cancellation fees.

If you purchase The Works with Frontier and have to cancel, can you get the refund in cash or do you only get a credit?

Jarrod West

March 18, 2021

Hi William,

You will receive a credit of the value of your ticket for use within 1 year of the transaction date on a future Frontier flight.

Booked three one way tickets back from a vacation, unfortunately one person isn’t attending anymore. How do I just cancel that flight without canceling the other two?

Jarrod West

June 05, 2021

Hi Jack,

You will need to call the Frontier customer service team as they will need to adjust that booking for you manually. Their number is 1-(801)-401-9000.

I purchased 3 roundtrip tickets to Orlando for July 6th with my frontier miles. Tropical Storm Elsa is forecasted to hit the area that day. I also purchased the Perks but not the Works package. However, I did buy the AIG insurance that pays if my flight is cancelled but not if I cancel. I’m just worried that Frontier will wait to the last minute to cancel. Your thoughts on my situation would be appreciated. Thanks

Jarrod West

July 06, 2021

Hi Lorenzo,

If you decide you want to cancel your ticket, Frontier will redeposit your Frontier Miles back into your account for a $75 redeposit fee (but this is waived if you made your booking between December 22, 2020, and March 31, 2021). Otherwise, you will just need to wait and see if they end up canceling the flight.

I was given a ticket as a gift but for health and safety reasons I need to cancel. I don’t want the person who bought it to know at this time. Will the cancellation and voucher be sent to me? Is the fee charged per round trip or per flight?

Jarrod West

August 20, 2021

Hi Joyce,

Since Frontier Vouchers are non-transferrable and may only be redeemed in the name of the passenger to whom it was issued, you should be the one who receives it. The Frontier cancellation fee is charged per flight.

The cancellation policy makes it clear that Frontier does not value their customers nor do they care for their continued patronage. I was forced to cancel our trip due to one positive covid test 10 days before our trip followed by 4 more positive tests 5 days prior. We were charged $100 per person per segment of the flight, not the $79 that the written policy would have you believe. In total, we were charged $1000 for a flight that we could absolutely not make due to covid travel restrictions over which we have no control and we’re only given a credit for about 1/3 of our total expenditure which will also be lost if not used in 130days. Book at your own risk

If I used Frontier miles to book my flight and they cancelled the flight, not me, will they put my miles back in my account?

Jarrod West

February 27, 2022

Hi Pam,

Yes, you should receive a refund of your miles.

Hi Jarrod!!

My boyfriend booked the wrong date to leave for a trip that is 7 days from now. How come when I call they tell me that it’s all these different fees just to switch it when online says we could switch it for $39 a person if we’re 7 days out? I simply just want to know the cheapest way to just switch the flight to the day before without paying $400+. If I just canceled my flight and rebooked it would that be the cheapest and easiest way?

March 31, 2022

Hi Kristen,

What fees is Frontier quoting you for other than the change fee?

Savannah Fowler

November 18, 2022

I canceled my flight within 24 hrs. It states full refund but it saying I am only being refunded for $147 or the $193 I paid. Something about spoilage fee?? Who should I contact to receive a full refund?

Jarrod West

November 18, 2022

Hi Savannah,

I would start by contacting Frontier directly. As long as your flight was scheduled to depart more than 7 days in advance from the time you booked then you should receive a full refund for canceling within 24 hours.
