Baggage Fees

Baggage allowances on TAP Air Portugal depend on your fare type, cabin class, and route. Typically, you can bring at least 1 personal item, a carry-on, and a checked bag, but the number and weight may vary.

All passengers can bring 1 personal item of up to 2 kilograms (4 pounds), up to 40 x 30 x 15 centimeters (16 x 12 x 5 inches), and 1 carry-on bag up to 10 kilograms (22 pounds), up to 55 x 40 x 25 centimeters (22 x 16 x 10 inches). Business class passengers are allowed to bring 2 carry-ons, except on flights to and from North America, where only 1 carry-on is permitted.

Business class passengers can bring 2 checked bags up to 32 kilograms (70 pounds) on most routes, and economy passengers can bring 1 checked bag up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds).

Extra checked bag fees apply. Expect to pay €30 to €90 ($38 to $113) for flights within Europe, or €75 to €200 ($94 to $250) for intercontinental routes. Oversized or overweight baggage (over 62 inches or 50 to 70 pounds) carries a fee starting at €55 ($69) within Europe and more than €150 ($188) for long-haul routes.

TAP Miles&Go Gold and Star Alliance Gold members can bring 1 extra 23-kilogram (50-pound) bag in economy, 1 extra 32-kilogram (70-pound) bag in business, and Navigator members receive an additional checked bag in either cabin.

Other Fees and Add-Ons

Additional fees for services and selections vary depending on your route, cabin class, and the time of purchase. Typically, purchasing in advance is more cost-effective than paying at the airport.

  • Change and cancellation fees: Change fees depend on your fare and routing. Typically, economy tickets charge €50 to €75 ($55 to $94) for changes, and long-haul flights have fees of up to €150 ($188). However, passengers with TAP Miles&Go Gold or Navigator status can typically have their change fees waived.
  • Seat fees: Seat fees vary by route and seat type, with standard economy seats typically starting around €15 ($16).
  • Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi is available on select aircraft, and free messaging is available. Paid Wi-Fi is available for a duration of your choice, starting at approximately $10 for 1 hour of access.
  • Onboard food and drinks: The buy-on-board menu on European flights offers snacks, light meals, and drinks, with prices generally ranging from €4 to €12 ($4 to $13). Complimentary meals are included on long-haul flights.
  • Pet transportation: Pets can travel in the cabin or the cargo hold, depending on size. Cabin pets can be up to 8 kilograms (17 pounds) including the carrier, and up to 45 kilograms (99 pounds) in the cargo hold, depending on the route. Breed restrictions apply. Cabin pet fees vary by season and route, but range from €40 to €170 ($49 to $190).
  • Unaccompanied minors: Unaccompanied minors 5 to 11 must use the unaccompanied minor service, though it’s optional with children 12 to 17. The fee ranges from €65 to €160 ($73 to $173), depending on the route.
