San Diego International Airport (SAN) serves over 25 million passengers annually and is the busiest airport in the U.S. to operate with a single runway. SAN has a reasonable selection of airport lounges (including a highly rated Chase Sapphire Lounge), all located in Terminal 2.

Due to ongoing construction, passengers cannot walk airside between terminals. Travelers departing from Terminal 1 must take the terminal shuttle and reclear security to access lounges, so be sure to allow plenty of time if you choose to do this.

Best Credit Cards To Access Priority Pass Lounges

Several credit cards include a complimentary Priority Pass membership, helping you avoid the usual $99 to $469 annual fee. The Amex Platinum card and the Amex Business Platinum card stand out as top options for airport lounge access.

Cardholders can access over 1,550 lounges worldwide, including Amex Centurion Lounges, Priority Pass lounges (after enrollment), and receive 10 visits per year to Delta Sky Clubs when flying with Delta the same day, with the option to earn unlimited visits by meeting certain spending thresholds.

Here are additional excellent cards that also provide a complimentary Priority Pass membership (enrollment required):

Final Thoughts

Lounges at San Diego International Airport remain decent but limited, especially for Terminal 1 passengers who face extra hassle accessing Terminal 2. The planned Alaska Lounge, expected to begin construction in early 2027, is welcome news. However, because Alaska Airlines is based in Terminal 2, it won’t address the ongoing lack of convenient lounge options for Terminal 1 travelers, and future improvements remain uncertain.
