Thompson Hotels is a luxury and upper-upscale hotel brand in the Hyatt family that’s growing in popularity every day. Chances are, you’ve probably heard of Thompson properties, whether in New York, Nashville, or Cabo.

In this guide, we’ll show you the best Thompson Hotels where you can redeem World of Hyatt points for top-shelf value.

Everything You Need To Know About Thompson Hotels

Thompson Hotels have a signature design and architecture — focusing mostly on an art deco style with mid-century furnishings, you’ll often notice deep-brown leathers with chic finishes like gold-clad fixtures.

The properties tend to focus on offering world-class culinary options and nightlife; they strive to be destinations in and of themselves.

Thompson Hotels generally strive to compete with EDITION Hotels, NoMad Hotels, 1 Hotels, and Rosewood (though the last one is probably a stretch, in our opinion).

Each property has, on average, around 200 rooms, making them full-service properties but not enormous.

Currently, there are 18 properties open in 16 destinations around the world, but this number is growing every year.

You’ll also notice that each property has restaurants, bars, fitness centers, and meeting spaces.

World of Hyatt Credit Cards

Hyatt Hotels has a loyalty and rewards program called World of Hyatt. The points you earn and redeem through this program are called World of Hyatt points.

You can also earn World of Hyatt points through credit card spending beyond booking paid hotel stays.

The most luxurious hotel that World of Hyatt offers in the ever-popular Cabo San Lucas is called The Cape, a Thompson Hotel. Even compared to other Thompson properties, this property sets itself apart as the flagship.

Offering boutique accommodations on Cabo San Lucas’s beachfront, this property has a total of 161 rooms, suites, and villas, each adorned with midcentury Latin American-inspired finishes.

Each standard room measures at least 480 square feet in size with ocean views and a choice of 1 king bed or 2 queen beds. In your room, you’ll find natural wood furnishings, a sitting area with a work desk and a lounge chair, plus a furnished balcony. Take note of the craft cocktail bar, flat-screen TV, and complimentary tequila welcome amenity as well.

Inside the tranquil bathroom, you’ll find a lavish walk-in rainfall shower, a separate deep-soaking bathtub, oversized single vanity, plush cotton bathrobes, and designer bath and body products.

There are a total of 5 food and beverage outlets, including a traditional all-day Mexican-American restaurant by the beach, a signature fusion restaurant, a vibrant cocktail bar, a rooftop bar and lounge, and a swim-up bar and terrace.

Remember, this resort also has direct beach access, a fitness center, 2 pools, a spa, and plenty of facilities for meetings and events.

The Cape, a Thompson Hotel is a World of Hyatt Category 7 hotel, charging 25,000 points per off-peak night, 30,000 points per standard night, and 35,000 points per peak night.

If you were to book paid rates, you could theoretically find rooms as low as $550 per night on some dates. During the peak season, you should expect to see rates in the ballpark of $2,000 per night. The average price is usually around $1,200 per night, though.

2. Thompson Madrid (Spain)

The Thompson Madrid is a lovely new addition to the Thompson portfolio — and it’s in a fantastic location just a 3-minute walk from Puerta del Sol and within a stone’s throw from popular attractions like palaces, museums, and so much more.

Here, you’ll find around 200 rooms, suites, and villas — the standard rooms start at 258 square feet and come with either city views or courtyard views. In addition, these rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, a custom honor bar, a sitting area with a lounge chair, a desk, and a flat-screen TV equipped with Chromecast.

The calming bathroom is appointed with a rain shower, D.S. & Durga bath amenities, a hairdryer, and a single vanity.

On the 5-star property’s grounds, you’ll find a rooftop cocktail bar and terrace (opening in the summer of 2023), a Spanish bistro, and a speakeasy-style cocktail bar.

Rounding out the rest of the facilities, there’s a pool, fitness center, business services, and meeting and event facilities.

As a World of Hyatt Category 5 property, you can book a standard room at the Thompson Madrid for 17,000 points per night during off-peak dates, 20,000 points per night during standard dates, and 23,000 points per night during peak dates.

This hotel offers exceptional value, since paid rates start at $300 per night, average around $600 per night, and jump up to $1,500 per night on some dates.

3. Thompson Seattle (Washington)

Thompson Seattle

The Thompson Seattle has established itself as one of the go-to luxury hotels in Seattle, especially considering its location — about a minute on foot from Pike Place and a mile from Olympic Sculpture Park — and the amazing views of the Puget Sound it offers.

This hotel boasts around 150 rooms, suites, and residences with rooms starting at 268 square feet with views of the courtyard. The rooms have 1 king bed or 2 queen beds dressed in luxury Sferra linens, plus a desk, an honor bar, closet space, a flat-screen TV, and coffee and tea machines.

Bathrooms include a rain shower, LED-backlit mirror, single vanity, D.S. & Durga amenities, and bathrobes.

Guests have 2 options for food and beverage at this property, including a signature restaurant featuring fresh produce and farm-raised proteins and an iconic rooftop bar, lounge, and terrace. This hotel also has a gym and space for meetings and events.

If you were to book paid stays here, you’d probably be looking at spending at least $250 per night on the low end and up to $600 per night on the high end. Average room rates hover around $450 per night.

4. Thompson Central Park New York

The Thompson Central Park New York is the place to be if you’re looking for an unparalleled location in New York. If the Park Hyatt New York isn’t available, consider booking a stay here with points because this property is just 3 blocks from Central Park and a short 5-minute walk from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

Each standard room measures at least 300 square feet with either 1 king bed or 2 double beds, making them spacious enough to have a workspace, blackout curtains, a flat-screen TV, and a sitting area.

In the bathroom, there’s a single vanity, a walk-in rain shower, and toiletries by D.S. & Durga.

There’s a sophisticated American jazz bar and lounge, a casual “speakeasy” burger spot, and an inventive Indian restaurant at this property. Room service is also available.

We also love the fact that there’s a gym, a Drybar salon, and meeting and event space. Some guests on the upper floors also get access to a residents-only fitness studio with Peloton bikes, racquetball courts, basketball courts, and a spa.

The property is a World of Hyatt Category 6 property, charging 21,000 points per night during off-peak dates, 25,000 points per night during standard dates, and 29,000 points per night during peak dates.

The Thompson Central Park New York consistently charges at least $450 per night, even during the low season. You should expect to pay up to $1,000 per night during the spring and early summer — but the average rate sits at around $650 per night.

6. Thompson Playa del Carmen Beach House (Mexico)

Thompson Playa del Carmen Beach House

Another lovely Thompson Hotel is the Thompson Playa del Carmen Beach House, which should not be confused with Thompson Playa del Carmen Main House. Thompson Playa del Carmen Beach House is a boutique beachfront resort, while the Main House property is a much larger adults-only hotel that’s not directly on the beach.

This hotel is on the beach and is surrounded by Quinta Avenida’s bars and restaurants. With just 27 suites, the standard room is a minimum of 625 square feet in size and has a furnished terrace with pool views. The room also has a sitting area with a couch, a flat-screen TV, a minibar, a desk, and blackout curtains.

The bathroom is appointed with double vanities, a walk-in rain shower, D.S. & Durga bath amenities, bathrobes, and slippers.

Guests can enjoy an open-air grill and restaurant and a beachfront poolside bar. In addition, the property has a rooftop outdoor pool, a gym, a sundeck with cabana rentals, and facilities for meetings and events.

The Thompson Playa del Carmen Beach House is a Category 5 World of Hyatt hotel, so you can redeem 17,000 points per night during off-peak dates, 20,000 points per night during standard dates, and 23,000 points per night during peak dates.

During the low season, it’s not a good idea to redeem points, as room rates can drop as low as $250 per night. However, if you redeem points during the peak summer season, it’ll be around $900 per night. The average room rate is closer to $350 per night.

7. Thompson Savannah (Georgia)

Thompson Savannah

The Thompson Savannah is one of the most exciting hotels in downtown Savannah, Georgia. Often referred to as an urban oasis, this riverfront hotel is a 2-mile drive from SCAD Museum of Art and isn’t far from I-16, providing convenient access to the area.

Rooms start at 340 square feet and have a choice of 1 king bed or 2 queen beds. There are Sferra linens, a work desk, floor-to-ceiling windows, a separate sitting area, coffee and tea machines, a flat-screen TV with Chromecast, a minibar, and a clothing steamer.

In the bathroom, you’ll find a single vanity, a walk-in rain shower, bathrobes, slippers, and toiletries by D.S. & Durga.

This property features an artisanal bakery, a restaurant serving coastal Southern favorites, a rooftop cocktail bar by Rob Newton, and a lobby bar serving light bites and seasonal cocktails.

We love the loaner bikes, outdoor pool, fitness center, and space for meetings and events.

Thompson Savannah is a Category 5 World of Hyatt hotel, which will run you 17,000 points per off-peak night, 20,000 points per standard night, and 23,000 points per peak night.

If you paid for a stay here, you can expect to pay around $200 to $650 per night, with the average being around $400 per night.

8. Thompson Washington, D.C.

Thompson Washington DC Thompson Bar

The Thompson Washington, D.C. happens to be one of the best points hotels you can book in the nation’s capital. To be more specific, this hotel is in the Navy Yard district overlooking the Anacostia River and is just a 4-minute walk from the nearest Metro station, a 5-minute walk from Nationals Park, and 2 miles from the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.

You can generally pick from 3 standard room configurations: 1 king bed, 2 double beds, and 1 queen bed. We’re not quite sure why you’d pick 1 queen bed unless the 1 king bed option were unavailable.

Each room starts at around 300 square feet and has hardwood floors, large industrial windows, a flat-screen TV with Chromecast, a desk, blackout curtains, and a minibar.

The bathroom has a single vanity, walk-in rain shower, bathrobes, slippers, and D.S. & Durga bath amenities.

There are 3 food and beverage outlets here, including a lobby lounge and bar, a rooftop cocktail bar with 360-degree city views, and a signature supper house serving American-inspired dishes. In addition, you’ll find a gym and meeting and event space.

Thompson Washington, D.C. is a Category 4 hotel in the World of Hyatt program, costing 12,000 points per night during off-peak dates, 15,000 points per night during standard dates, and 18,000 points per night during peak dates.

Paid room rates go for anywhere from $200 to $700 per night. The average room rate is around $400 per night.

9. Thompson Zihuatanejo, A Beach Resort (Mexico)

Thompson Zihuatanejo, a Beach Resort

One of Thompson’s few resort hotels, Thompson Zihuatanejo, a Beach Resort, represents a great chance to experience the Thompson brand in a non-urban location. This property is less than 10 miles from Ixtapa Zihuatanejo International Airport (ZIH) and is situated on La Ropa Beach along the Pacific Ocean.

This boutique property has just 56 rooms and suites, each with views of gardens, a lagoon, or the ocean. The standard rooms boast 644 square feet, garden views, a king bed, modular elements, midcentury design, a minibar, and more. There’s even a table just for craft cocktails.

The bathrooms have a single vanity, walk-in rainfall shower, bathrobes, slippers, and toiletries by D.S. & Durga.

Choose between Hao, the seasonal alfresco restaurant, or Ceniza, the beachfront palapa serving traditional Mexican favorites using wood-fired cooking techniques.

To keep yourself busy, there are 3 outdoor pools, a fitness center, tennis courts, a spa, cooking classes, yoga, and even water sports.

This is a Category 6 World of Hyatt hotel, meaning you can redeem 21,000 points per off-peak night, 25,000 points per standard night, and 29,000 points per peak night.

Shockingly, the low season shows rates of around $300 per night, while the average rate is around $400 per night. Rates can also go all the way up to $800 per night.

10. The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel (New York)

The last property we’ll be highlighting is The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel, which happens to be one of 2 Thompson properties in Downtown Manhattan (the other being Gild Hall).

The Beekman is located in the Financial District and is a 3-minute walk from Fulton Street Subway station and a 14-minute walk from the Brooklyn Bridge.

The midcentury-inspired property has just under 300 rooms and suites, each appointed with 1 king bed or 1 queen bed. Note that rooms with 2 queen beds are not available for award redemptions at the standard room price. Rooms offer at least 285 square feet of space, plus eclectic lighting fixtures and color accents. You’ll also find a work desk, Sferra linens, and more.

Marble-clad bathrooms include a rain shower, bathrobes, double sinks, a wall-mounted make-up mirror, and amenities by D.S. & Durga.

There’s a signature French restaurant by Chef Daniel Boulud and an old-school steakhouse by Tom Colicchio. There’s also a Victorian cocktail bar by Tom Colicchio, which seats 16. Guests can also utilize the gym and concierge at this timeless luxury hotel.

The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel, is a Category 6 World of Hyatt property, which means you can book a room for 21,000 points per night during off-peak dates, 25,000 points per night during standard dates, and 29,000 points per night during peak dates.

If you were paying cash for a stay here, you’d be hard-pressed to find any dates with rates of less than $450 per night. On some occasions, room rates skyrocket to over $1,100 per night. But you should expect the average rate to cost you around $650 per night.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re visiting Cabo or New York, there’s a Thompson Hotel waiting for you offering posh service and upscale amenities. We’re excited about the future of this brand and what it means for luxury hospitality.

Best of all, you can book stays at Thompson Hotels for free using World of Hyatt points — and there’s excellent value to be had when you do so!
