The Four Seasons Hotel Sydney is regarded as one of the best in Sydney, Australia, with a fabulous location and the ability to book a stay with various travel credits. It’s a great choice for visiting the city for the first time.

I visited this hotel for the first time in April 2026, staying 2 nights. I’m a regular visitor to Sydney, but I’d never stayed at the Four Seasons until this trip. I was very happy to try it out, and it’s certainly somewhere I’d return to in the future.

1. The Location Is Excellent

The Four Seasons Hotel Sydney is just off Circular Quay, home to the famed Sydney Opera House. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the main entrance, and it’s also easily accessible to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney just beyond. The hotel is located just outside The Rocks, Sydney’s original historic area. To get there, head out the main entrance and go left. The Rocks neighborhood hosts a fabulous weekend market that draws in thousands of tourists and locals alike.

The hotel is about a 5-minute walk from the main cruise terminal in Circular Quay. Cross the street and bear to the left, and the main terminal building is just after the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. The Four Seasons Hotel Sydney is one of the closest hotels to this area.

Sydney Circular Quay
The Four Seasons is within a quick walk from Circular Quay.

The hotel is across the street from Circular Quay train station, with trains to the domestic and international terminals at the airport in about 15 to 20 minutes. The train is faster and more reliable than driving, which could take 20 minutes or more with traffic.

2. The Room Was Small, but Well Appointed

I found the room a bit small, in part because it angled toward the windows, though, in fairness, this offered a slightly better view.

In the main room, a king bed was flanked by 2 nightstands.

Four Seasons Sydney King Room Looking to TV
I paid about $100 out of pocket to stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney.

A nook against the window had a built-in bench, great for relaxing and taking in the views. I took a few naps there. There was also a large dining and working table, along with an armchair.

A perfect spot for an afternoon snooze!

A small bathroom was on the right as I entered, complete with a soaking tub, a stand-up shower, a toilet, and a sink.

Four Seasons Sydney King Rom Bathroom
The bathroom was on the smaller side, but still featured both a tub and a shower.
Bottom Line:

The room was well appointed and felt like a Four Seasons hotel, with premium finishes and touches. The hotel’s last renovation was several years ago, so it’s likely due for another refurbishment soon, especially in the bathroom, where the fixtures looked older.

3. Some Rooms Have Opera House or Harbor Views

There are only a handful of hotels with views of Circular Quay and the surrounding harbor, and the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney has one of the best views of the entire area in upgraded rooms. Unfortunately, base-level rooms have little to no view and are located on lower floors.

The best views require a higher-floor room, overlooking either the opera house or the harbor. The harbor view rooms do not have a view of the opera house, and look towards the backside of the harbor, essentially looking towards the Sydney Harbour Bridge and beyond. The opera views look towards Circular Quay and the opera house.

Four Seasons Sydney Harbour View
I was not upgraded to an opera-view room on this trip, but I did have a room overlooking the back of the harbor.

When I arrived at the hotel, I was initially told there were no upgrades available. The clerk I spoke with checked further and found a harbor-view room I could wait for, so I had them hold my bag, and I came back in a few hours.

Bottom Line:

The hotel offers 1-category upgrades to qualifying guests. Opera-view rooms are 2 categories higher than base-level rooms, so book a harbor-view room (1 category higher than base) for a chance to upgrade to an opera-view room.

4. The Breakfast Buffet Was a Highlight

I’ve stayed at several Sydney hotels, and the breakfast at the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney was one of the best I’ve had in the city. The restaurant where breakfast is served is relatively small compared to the hotel, so each time I went down to eat, nearly every table was occupied.

After being seated, I was offered a choice of coffee and asked whether I wanted to order any made-to-order eggs. Then, I was invited to explore the buffet, which basically wrapped around the bar area.

The Four Seasons Hotel Sydney had an extensive breakfast spread.

There was a juice station with several kinds of juice, and a pastry and bread station including croissants, cakes, breads, and scones, complete with a full array of butters, jams, and spreads.

Four Seasons Sydney Pastries
Each morning, there was an entire spread of fresh pastries.

Just beyond the bread area was an Asian table offering several specialties daily. Wanting to change things up a bit, I enjoyed the rotating selection of dumplings.

A full hot buffet featured sausages, bacon, eggs, potatoes, beans, mushrooms, and other staples. Each morning, there were also rotating selections. I found brisket on the buffet line one day, and it was terrific.

5. Rates Were Good for a Four Seasons

The Four Seasons Hotel Sydney has reasonable rates for much of the year. While other Four Seasons properties can easily go into the thousands of dollars per night, it’s rare to see the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney go past around $400 per night.

I booked 2 nights for about $200 each with AmexTravel.com using my Platinum Card® from American Express. The property is part of the American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts collection, and I received my semiannual $300 statement credit for booking (up to $600 annually). I just had to pay around $100 out of pocket, which is a steal for this kind of hotel.

Thanks to the great rates at this property, I have it booked on several occasions and would definitely consider using it as an “airport hotel” the night before a flight, thanks to its convenient location next to the airport train. This hotel can also be booked with The Edit by Chase Travel.

6. It’s Bookable Through Premium Hotel Programs

The Four Seasons Hotel Sydney is bookable on most major travel portals:

These programs include perks such as early check-in and late checkout, complimentary breakfast for 2, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, space-available room upgrades, and property credits for room service, dining, or spa services.

Four Seasons Sydney Lobby
The Four Seasons Hotel Sydney is bookable on most major travel booking portals.

At the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney, I used my Fine Hotels + Resorts benefits:

  • I didn’t really need the early check-in, since I was coming from a hotel with a late checkout. I waited for an upgraded room.
  • For late checkout, I was given a 4 p.m. checkout time, even though the front desk said the hotel was fully booked.
  • The complimentary Wi-Fi worked without any issues, which was great.
  • While the complimentary breakfast was for 2, I was the only person in the room.
  • For the $100 property credit, I ordered room service twice. The service charge on each order could not be applied to the property credit benefit, so I paid a small amount at checkout for these deliveries. The food I ordered was reasonably priced for room service and arrived quickly.

I used part of my property credit on a room service club sandwich.

Final Thoughts

I would not hesitate to stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney again. With the hotel’s fantastic location right in Circular Quay and its quite reasonable rates, it’s one of the better luxury hotel options in Sydney’s central business district. I especially love that this hotel can be booked through several major hotel booking portals, and that the prices were reasonable to use the in-house credit. For travelers seeking a well-located hotel that offers a high-end experience at a great price, the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney is it.
