The author was an invited guest of the Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville, Autograph Collection. All opinions are the author’s own, and the hotel had no input into this review.

If a chic lodge and an art gallery got together and had a baby, and that baby was a hotel, you’d have the Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville, Autograph Collection.

Sometimes, a hotel or a destination ticks all of the boxes, and this was one of those times. I visited Greenville, South Carolina, in July 2024, and quickly fell in love with the city. It has a vibrant, walkable downtown filled with shops, restaurants, green spaces, and special events. The hotel made my trip even better.

Every inch of the Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville was thoughtfully designed, offering guests the opportunity to find new details around every corner. Original art was throughout the lobby and public spaces, a usable library where each book was handpicked, custom antler chandeliers, a Bösendorfer concert piano, and the most gorgeous, deep purple couch you ever saw. It was a design lover’s paradise.

In this review of the Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville, I’ll show you all around this hotel, including the guest rooms, dining, and amenities, and how to book it with Marriott Bonvoy points (plus a picture of that to-die-for purple couch).

Kessler Collection

Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville is part of the Kessler Collection, a group of 11 boutique hotels and resorts that showcase the owner’s love of art, music, and culture (10 of these hotels are part of Marriott Bonvoy). I had never heard of the Kessler Collection before staying at Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville, but I’m officially a fan now.

If only this gorgeous purple couch would fit in my house.

I was blown away by the thought and detail that went into the design of the Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville, and I learned that this is a common theme among Kessler properties.

It wasn’t until I spoke with the hotel’s general manager, Ron Nagy, that I realized I had been in a Kessler hotel previously. A couple of years ago, I visited Savannah, Georgia, for a quick weekend trip (I had Hyatt free night certificates to burn). I stayed at the Andaz Savannah but wandered over to the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District to gawk at the totally unique and supercool lobby.

The JW Marriott Savannah’s lobby doubles as an art gallery … complete with a silver dinosaur skeleton hanging from the ceiling.

The geodes in the lobby at the Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville reminded me of those at the JW Marriott Savannah, so it made sense when I learned that the JW Savannah is also a Kessler hotel.

Hot Tip:

Ten of Kessler Collection’s 11 hotels participate in the Marriott Bonvoy program. All but 1 of them are part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection.

Location of Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville

Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville, Autograph Collection, is in the heart of downtown Greenville, South Carolina, less than 20 minutes from Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP). It sits on the edge of Falls Park on the Reedy, with views of the Reedy River and Liberty Bridge, a 345-foot pedestrian bridge.

The hotel is within easy walking distance of countless restaurants, shops, and attractions in Greenville. From March to September, you can check out Main Street Fridays, a weekly outdoor music series. Then on Saturday mornings from May through October, explore the TD Saturday Market that lines Main Street. Be sure to grab a coffee and a pastry at Camilla Kitchen at M. Judson Booksellers (a coffee shop inside of an independent bookstore) before checking out the market.

You’ll definitely want to dine at the hotel at least once, but I would also recommend trying out local restaurants, too. I enjoyed a lot of good meals in Greenville, but my favorite was at Jianna, which serves modern Italian cuisine. Grab a seat on the balcony for a nice view and great people-watching.

Check-In and Elite Benefits

Before walking into the hotel, I couldn’t help but notice the giant geode in the front of the building.

Welcome to the Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville.

The focal point of the lobby was, without a doubt, the massive, 4-sided stone fireplace. Surrounded by comfy seating, it gave the lobby a cozy cabin vibe.

This massive fireplace was the lobby’s focal point.

The check-in desk itself felt like a stone grotto. The front desk staff was friendly and offered to hold our bags for us while we ate lunch because our room wasn’t ready yet.

I have Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status, but since I was staying as a guest of the hotel, none of my Marriott Bonvoy elite benefits applied.

However, if you have Marriott Bonvoy elite status, you get benefits including late checkout and bonus points. Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elites and above are also eligible for room upgrades, while Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elites and above can choose a welcome gift of Marriott Bonvoy points or free breakfast. The Marriott Bonvoy elite breakfast is served at Between the Trees.

Hot Tip:

There are multiple ways to earn Marriott Bonvoy elite status, including staying at Marriott properties and having the right credit cards. Marriott Bonvoy-branded credit cards come with Silver, Gold, or Platinum Elite status (plus elite night credits). The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express each come with Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status upon enrollment.

Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville Guest Rooms

King Falls View Room

My King Falls View room at Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville wasn’t huge or overly extravagant, but it was comfortable and well-designed. The first thing I noticed after walking into my room was the gorgeous, deep green headboard behind the bed.

I’m in love with this gorgeous, green headboard.

The intense green color from the headboard was used in small doses on the custom accent pillows and in the artwork, which tied the whole room together.

My room was very comfortable.

The faux fur throw at the bottom of the bed even had a green lining to match. These were custom-made for the hotel, and yes, I asked if they were for sale. I’ll be purchasing one as soon as the next batch is made.

I’m obsessed with the green lining on this faux fur throw.

Across from the bed was a small table with 2 chairs and a television.

The floor-to-ceiling windows helped make the room feel bigger than it was.

The windows let in a lot of light.

Plus, the view of the waterfalls on the Reedy River was quite beautiful.

Not a bad view, huh?

The small closet shared a sliding barn door with the bathroom. This was my least favorite feature of the room, since the bathroom door had to be closed for the closet to open.

The closet was on the small side.

Near the room entrance, there was a Nespresso machine, a minifridge, and wine for purchase. This area was dark but had everything you needed for a cup of coffee or tea.

Bottled water was complimentary and replaced daily.

The coffee maker was in a cramped and dark spot.

Bathroom

The neutral-colored bathroom was spacious, clean, and functional. It had 1 sink plus a big stand-up shower.

The toilet was in a separate space opposite the shower.

Having the toilet in a separate area is a must in a hotel.

Corner Junior Suite

During my visit, I was able to take a peek at a Corner Junior Suite. This 600-square-foot room had a separate living area with a couch and fireplace.

Gym

The gym at Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville was rather basic compared to the rest of the hotel, but it had everything you would need for a great workout, including cardio machines, a weight machine, and free weights.

The gym was basic but functional.

What the gym lacked in interior decor, it made up for with excellent views.

The Grand Bohemian Gallery was inside the hotel, but it also had a separate entrance.

This fountain in front of the gallery was stunning.

This gorgeous space featured paintings, sculptures, and jewelry from mostly local and regional artists (both established and new).

I loved browsing in the art gallery.

The Grand Bohemian Gallery was open Sunday to Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Hot Tip:

The art gallery at Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville is integrated into the hotel’s main floor. All art is available for purchase, and there’s even an incentive for using a Marriott Bonvoy credit card!

Food and Beverage

Between the Trees

After we checked in, we headed to Between the Trees for lunch.

The inside of the restaurant was really cool, but we sat on the patio to enjoy the beautiful views. It was still early, so I opted for brunch. We started with blueberry pearl sugar muffins. Served warm, they were perfect with an iced coffee.

So good.

I ordered my usual hotel brunch meal: avocado toast with poached eggs. The whipped ricotta and freeze-dried corn were tasty additions. It was excellent.

Service

The service at the hotel was wonderful. From our server at Between the Trees to my massage therapist to the front desk and art gallery staff, everyone was friendly and helpful.

Final Thoughts

I absolutely loved my 2-night stay at Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville, Autograph Collection. This beautifully designed hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Greenville. Even better, it’s part of Marriott Bonvoy, so you can earn or use Marriott Bonvoy points for your stay.

I absolutely love it when unique, independent hotels are part of big-name hotel loyalty programs, and Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville is a perfect example. You get to enjoy a totally alluring and inspired hotel with the familiarity of the Marriott name. It’s a match made in heaven.
