Virgin Clubhouse Eligibility
All Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse lounges are open to passengers flying the airline with an Upper Class boarding pass and Flying Club Gold members.
Unfortunately, there are no day pass options, but 2 of the 5 Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses (LAX or IAD) can be visited by travelers with a Priority Pass membership.
Priority Pass Options
As mentioned, 2 of the 5 Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses can be visited by those with a Priority Pass membership. The easiest way to get a Priority Pass membership is through one of the many credit cards that provides it as a complimentary perk for being a cardholder.
Recommended Cards:
The Platinum Card® from American Express - There's currently a new welcome bonus offer of 75,000 Membership Rewards Points after spending $5,000 on purchases in your first 6 months of Card Membership. Plus, earn 10x points in the first 6 months on eligible purchases at U.S. Gas Stations and U.S. Supermarkets (on up to $15,000 in combined purchases). This is our favorite card for getting into 1,300 airport lounges worldwide (including Priority Pass) and we get ~$3,000+ in value from the card every year. The Amex Platinum can get you up to $200 in Uber credits annually ($15 per month and a $20 bonus in December) — and up to $200 in annual credit for airline incidental charges (e.g. baggage or seat selection fees). There's even a $100 Saks Fifth Avenue credit, annually. With an annual fee of $550, you get more value in return. Terms Apply. For rates and fees of the Amex Platinum Card, click here. |
The Business Platinum Card® from American Express - Right now, there's a new welcome bonus of 85,000 points plus earn 5x points on eligible purchases in 5 select business categories, up to 80,000 bonus points per category, all within the first 3 months of Card Membership. Terms apply. We get ~$5,525+ in value per year by leveraging many of the card's benefits & perks. This is the best business card for lounge access as you'll get into 1,300+ airport lounges worldwide. For rates and fees of the Business Platinum, click here. |
Chase Sapphire Reserve® - This is a premium travel rewards card with a higher annual fee, but it'll get you into a lot of airport lounges (Priority Pass). The current sign up bonus is 50,000 points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. You'll also get a $300 travel credit per year which wipes away a big chunk of the $550 annual fee. As an extra bonus, from 6/1/20 through 6/30/21, gas station & grocery store purchases will also count towards earning your Travel Credit. |
Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card - Earn 130,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points after you spend $2,000 in purchases on the Card within your first 3 months of Card membership. Priority Pass Select Membership is included with the card and you'll get 10 free lounge visits every year once enrolled. For rates and fees of the Amex Surpass Card, click here. |
If you receive a Priority Pass Select membership through one of the above credit cards, you’re required to officially enroll to utilize your benefits. You cannot simply show your credit card and expect to enter.
Getting an Upper Class Ticket
While a Priority Pass membership via a credit card will get you into a few of the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses, you can guarantee that you will be able to access any of those by holding an Upper Class ticket. Fortunately, many great credit card programs will help you earn enough points to book an Upper Class ticket.
Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou Points, and Marriott Bonvoy points are all transferable to the Virgin Atlantic program. The first three transfer at a 1:1 rate, while Marriott Bonvoy points transfer at a 3:1 rate.
This means you earn points with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Amex Platinum, or the American Express® Gold Card, and then use those points to book an Upper Class ticket with Virgin Atlantic.
Flying Club Gold Status
To achieve Gold elite status with Virgin Atlantic, you’ll need to earn at least 1,000 Tier Points in 1 calendar year. For example, 1,000 Tier Points could be 2 round-trips and a one-way ticket in Upper Class, 5 flexible Premium Economy round-trip flights, or 10 Economy Delight round-trip flights.
In addition to complimentary access to Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses, Flying Club Gold members also receive perks like 60% more miles on Virgin Atlantic flights, Upper Class check-in, priority boarding, extra luggage allowance, and more.
Final Thoughts
Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses provide an exceptional lounge experience to those that are flying Upper Class with the carrier and for Flying Club Gold elite members. Between the stellar food and drinks options, and amenities like wellness spas and on-site showers, they are a perfect place to rest, indulge, and keep those devices charged while you wait for your flight.
As Virgin Atlantic continues to expand its U.S. Clubhouse lounge network, we will continually update this list as regularly as possible so you’ve got the most recent information.
