Cash + Points Bookings

To search for Cash + Points options, you have to search for award stays by selecting Use Points / Certificates when you search for a specific hotel. The search results will show you the award rate and any Cash + Points options (if availability exists).

Peak and Off-Peak

Marriott Bonvoy’s loyalty program has 8 categories for hotel awards. Within those 8 tiers, hotels have standard, off-peak, and peak award rates. Each of the levels also has a Cash + Points rate associated with it.

With the tiered award structure, your award night could be at any of 24 different points levels depending on the hotel you choose and what dates you need to stay.

If you are looking at potentially using a Cash + Points rate for your stay, you can add another 24 levels for a grand total of 48 different award levels.

Fifth Night Free on Award Stays

Another great way to use points is to book 4 nights with Marriott points to receive the fifth night free. You’re essentially getting a 20% discount per night, but the word “free” sounds great!

Use Points to Upgrade a Stay

You can also use your Marriott points to upgrade a paid or award stay rather than paying cash. Upgrades are charged in blocks of 5,000 points, subject to hotel availability, with some properties and rooms requiring multiple upgrade blocks.

Homes & Villas by Marriott

A marketing partnership launched in 2019, Homes & Villas by Marriott includes over 2,000 premium and luxury homes located throughout the U.S., the Caribbean, Latin America, and Europe. These properties are not owned or managed by Marriott.

Rather than a traditional award chart, award nights are based on the price of a stay, with points worth 0.7 cents/point toward the stay.

Final Thoughts

Marriott has a massive presence around the world and some very nice properties that make for amazing award redemptions.

With so many ways to earn Marriott points, it’s now even easier to amass the points needed for a wonderful trip!

Hello! Does Marriott have any properties where you can book with points and get the all inclusive option? I see they have numerous hotels in Cancun, but can seem to determine if it is possible to get the all inclusive option. IHG i know has a few of these. Let me know if you get a chance, thanks!

    • Hi Richard,

While I’m not sure about how to find all-inclusive Marriotts if they exist, I recently booked a stay at the Ritz Carlton Central Park with Marriott points for the nights & covered lounge access, room service, a massage for my wife, etc. with Capital One Miles. My guess is that the nicer the hotel/lounge, the more likely that you can have a full dinner there, even if “dinner” isn’t stated. Lounge websites with Marriott including where we stayed usually just advertise breakfast, lunch, hors devours, & dessert.

One thing I should add is that some miles enthusiasts who are purists would hate the idea of using the purchaser eraser feature of Capital One ever since you can get better value elsewhere via transfer partners like Avianca. That said, I’m not a complete purist even though I had some reservations.

Looking for how many points per night in a US Marriott.

    • Christine Krzyszton August 2, 2019

Hi Tom. The number of points required to book a hotel night at a Marriott property varies based on its assigned category. Prices start at 7,500 points per night for a category 1 hotel and go up to 85,000 points for a category 8. When you make a reservation, check the “use points” box and the required number of points will show for the hotel you select. Here is a list of Marriott hotels and point prices: https://points-redemption.marriott.com/category-change/marriott-bonvoy

  4. For the 5th night free, is it capped to 35k points? I just looked at booking the Marriott in Fiji and the nightly rates range from 169k to 174k for a overwater villa but for my “free night,” they charged 134k points for the upgrade which was not a free 5th night but a 35k discount.

    Reply

    • Hi Annie,

No, the 5th night free is not limited to 35k properties. It sounds like you may have experienced a glitch on their website. I suggest you contact Marriott directly for assistance with your booking.
