It’s an unprecedented time in our society right now, with the spread of COVID-19 affecting all aspects of daily life. And unfortunately, the virus pandemic is also putting a lot of travel plans on hold.

Many of you had cruises planned that have now been canceled, and many of you have cruises scheduled that you’re not quite comfortable taking at the moment.

There’s a lot of information out there, and we wanted to make it easier for you. This post includes all of the cruise cancellation policies in a single place, so you can easily find the information that’s important to you.

Since this is a fluid situation, these policies are subject to change, so we’ll be updating this piece on an ongoing basis to make sure you have the most up to date information out there.

Cruise Cancellation Policies Due to COVID-19

Azamara

All Azamara sailings have been canceled from March 15, 2020, through October 31, 2020 (sailings leaving from the U.S. were canceled as of March 13, 2020),  the November 4 and 14 sailings on Azamara Quest, and all November and December sailings on Azamara Pursuit.

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

If you’re scheduled to sail with Azamara before October 31, 2020, you have 2 choices in regards to a refund:

  1. Receive a 125% Future Cruise Credit that can be applied to any sailing booked by December 31, 2021, for sailing by April 30, 2022. Any prepaid amenities or packages will be automatically refunded to the original form of payment.
  2. Request a 100% refund to the original form of payment. Requests can be made anytime between now and December 31, 2021. You should receive a refund within 30 days of submitting your request.

Carnival Cruise Line

The following Carnival sailings have been canceled:

  • All San Francisco sailings through the end of 2020
  • Carnival Splendor sailings through January 7, 2020
  • Carnival Spirit sailings through May 16, 2021
  • Carnival Legend sailings departing through and including October 30, 2020
  • Mardi Gras from Port Canaveral from November 14, 2020, through January 30, 2021
  • Carnival Breeze from Fort Lauderdale from November 7, 2020, through March 7, 2020
  • Carnival Magic from Ft. Lauderdale and Miami through March 6, 2021, and transatlantic and Barcelona sailings from April 10, 2021, through May 3, 2021
  • All Carnival Fascination and Imagination sailings (both ships are in long-term storage with no plans for return)
  • Carnival Sensation sailings March 3, 2022, and March 7, 2022
  • Carnival Sunrise sailings departing through and including October 19, 2020, plus select sailings through April 2022
  • Carnival Radiance sailings departing through and including November 1, 2020, select sailings through April 2022
  • Carnival Spirit Alaska, Hawaii, and Trans-Pacific sailings departing through and including October 6, 2020
  • Carnival Valor sailings through April 24, 2021
  • All other ships and sailings through October 31, 2020

In addition, Carnival Fantasy and Carnival Inspiration will be permanently retired. Carnival Fascination and Carnival Imagination will be sent to long-term storage with no timeline for their return.

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

If you were previously booked on one of these sailings and canceled on or after March 6, 2020, you have 2 options when it comes to receiving a refund.

All taxes, fees, and port charges, plus any extras you purchased including beverage packages, insurance, prepaid gratuities, Wi-Fi packages, shore excursions, and Fun Shop purchases, will be refunded to the original method of payment.

Celebrity Cruise Line

All Celebrity Cruise Line sailings have been canceled from March 15, 2020, through October 31, 2020.

Additionally, all 2020 sailings to Canada and Alaska and all sailings departing from Australia and New Zealand have been canceled. Some Canada/New England, Hawaii, and repositioning cruises are also canceled for the remainder of the year.

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

If your cruise was canceled due to COVID-19, you’ll have 2 choices in regards to a refund:

  1. Receive a 125% Future Cruise Credit that can be applied to any sailing through December 31, 2021. Any prepaid amenities or packages will be automatically refunded to the original form of payment. You should receive your Future Cruise Credit within 14 days of cancellation.
  2. Request a 100% refund to the original form of payment. Requests can be made anytime between now and December 31, 2021. You should receive a refund within 30 days of submitting your request

If you canceled your cruise before the official suspension, you’re only eligible for a 100% Future Cruise Credit.

Hot Tip: Currently, any guest over 70 years of age must have a physician’s note certifying that they have no severe, chronic medical conditions and are fit to travel to board a Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, or Azamara cruise. This policy is temporary, but no official end date has been announced. All guests will also be screened before embarkation and can be denied boarding if they have a severe, chronic medical condition.

Costa Cruises

Costa Deliziosa cruises from select Italian ports for Italian passengers resumed in September 2020.

The following Costa Cruises have been canceled:

  • Costa Diadema cruises through August 15, 2020; cruises from select Italian ports for Italian passengers will resume in September 2020
  • Costa Fascinosa cruises through September 30, 2020
  • Costa Favolosa cruises through September 30, 2020
  • Costa Fortuna cruises through October 8, 2020
  • Costa Luminosa cruises through September 30, 2020
  • Costa Magica cruises through September 30, 2020
  • Costa Mediterranea cruises through September 30, 2020
  • Costa Pacifica cruises through September 30, 2020
  • Costa Smeralda cruises through September 30, 2020

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

If you’re scheduled to sail with Costa through September 30, 2020, you can change the departure date of your cruise with at least 48 hours’ notice. You’ll receive a Future Cruise Credit that can be used within 12 months of your cancellation date.

Crystal Cruises

Crystal Cruises has canceled all Crystal River Cruises from March 26, 2020, through September 30, 2020. The following sailings have also been canceled:

  • Crystal Endeavor: All sailings through January 2021
  • Crystal Symphony: All voyages through December 31,  2020
  • Crystal Esprit: All voyages through January 9, 2021
  • Crystal Serenity: All voyages through December 31,  2020

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

Guests on any canceled sailing have 2 options:

  1. 100% refund
  2. A 125% Future Cruise Credit that’s valid on any Crystal sailing (Ocean, Yacht, River, or Expedition) departing by December 31, 2023. If the 125% credit is selected, any port charges, taxes, fees, and hotel or air packages purchased through Crystal will be refunded to the original form of payment.

How to Cancel a Crystal Cruise

If you’d like the Future Cruise Credit, it will be automatically applied to your account. To request a refund, email Crystal Cruises at [email protected] by your original embarkation date.

If you find you can’t use your Future Cruise Credit by December 31, 2022, you’ll be able to request a refund.

Hot Tip: If you’re feeling sick or showing signs of fever or respiratory illness, don’t go on a cruise. Most cruise lines are conducting pre-embarkation health screenings and you could be denied boarding. If you’re not sure what to do, contact the cruise line for more guidance.

Cunard

The following Cunard cruises have been canceled:

  • Queen Elizabeth: All sailings through March 25, 2021
  • Queen Mary 2: All sailings through April 18, 2021
  • Queen Victoria: All sailings through May 16, 2021

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

For any bookings that have been canceled due to COVID-19, you’re eligible for a 125% Future Cruise Credit that can be applied to any sailing through March 31, 2022 (as long as it’s booked by December 31, 2021).

Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line has canceled the following sailings:

  • Disney Dream: All sailings through December 11, 2020
  • Disney Fantasy: All sailings through December 6, 2020
  • Disney Magic: All sailings through December 12, 2020
  • Disney Wonder: All sailings through December 11, 2020

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

Guests who are scheduled on a canceled cruise will receive a cruise credit for a future cruise to be used within 15 months or a full refund.

How to Cancel a Disney Cruise

If you booked your Disney cruise with a travel agent, contact the agent. If you booked directly with Disney, you can call 866-325-2112 or 407-566-3510 to cancel your reservation.

Holland America

Holland America has canceled all sailings through December 15, 2020, plus early 2021 Hawaii departures.

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

If you were booked on a cruise that was scheduled to depart before December 15, 2020, you have 2 options:

  • Receive a Future Cruise Credit for 125% of the base cruise fare plus a $250 onboard credit per person if you have already paid your cruise in full. If you haven’t paid in full, the 125% credit will be based on the amount you’ve already paid. These credits can be used to book a new cruise within 12 months of credit issuance for sailing by December 31, 2022.
  • Receive a 100% refund.

If you were scheduled on a cruise that was canceled by Holland America on May 6, 2020, you will receive a future cruise credit:

  • For cruises that weren’t paid in full, you’ll receive double the amount of the deposit.
  • For cruises that were paid in full, you’ll receive 125% of the base cruise fare.

MSC Cruises

All Canada/New England cruises from September 5, 2020, through December 15, 2020, have also been canceled.  All departures from Vancouver in 2020 have been canceled as well as select Hawaii cruises in early 2021.

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

If you were booked on a sailing that has been canceled, you have 2 options for a refund:

  1. Receive a 125% Future Cruise Credit that can be applied to any sailing through December 31, 2021. Taxes and fees plus any prepaid items will be automatically refunded to the original form of payment. If the Future Cruise Credit remains unused, a refund will be automatically sent. You’ll receive your Future Cruise Credit within 14 days of the original cruise.
  2. Request a 100% refund to the original form of payment. You should receive a refund within 60 days of the original departure date.

How to Cancel an MSC Cruise

To cancel a cruise that was scheduled to sail on or before April 29, 2020, and to choose between a 125% cruise credit or a 100% refund, use this form.

To reschedule a cruise that departs before December 15, 2020, use this form.

National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions

All National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions voyages through August 2020 have been canceled due to COVID-19.

In addition, all cruises to the Galapagos Islands are canceled with no official date of return.

In addition to having the world’s first self-disinfecting fleet, National Geographic/Lindblad is monitoring the situation and will make changes to their schedule if the need arises.

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

If you choose to cancel any 2020 cruise, you’ll get a 100% credit as long as you cancel with at least 24 hours’ notice. This credit can be applied to any future expedition in 2020 or 2021.

If you book a cruise scheduled to depart in 2021 between June 10, 2020, and September 12, 2020, you’ll receive a 100% future cruise credit if you cancel at least 14 days prior to departure.

Norwegian Cruises

All Norwegian sailings have been canceled from March 13, 2020, through October 31, 2020, plus select October departures.

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

If you were booked on a cruise that was scheduled to depart between March 13-17, 2020, you’re eligible for a 150% Future Cruise Credit, which can be applied towards any cruise through December 31, 2022.

If you were booked on a cruise that was scheduled to depart from March 18, 2020, to October 31, 2020, you’re eligible for a 125% Future Cruise Credit, which can be applied towards any cruise through December 31, 2022.

You’ll also get a 20% discount when you use your Future Cruise Credit to book a cruise by May 31, 2020, that’s scheduled to depart from October 1, 2020, through December 31, 2022.

If you would prefer a refund, you’re eligible for a 100% refund to the original form of payment.

Peace of Mind Policy

The Peace of Mind policy is Norwegian’s temporary policy to help you feel comfortable booking a cruise. This allows you to cancel a cruise scheduled to depart anytime between March 10, 2020, through November 30, 2020, as long as you give at least 48 hours’ notice.

You’ll receive a Future Cruise Credit for any amount you’ve already paid, which can be used on a future cruise that departs on or before December 31, 2022.

How to Cancel a Norwegian Cruise

You’ll automatically get a Future Cruise Credit for any canceled Norwegian sailing. If you’d prefer a refund, you’ll need to request it within 45 days of your cruise’s cancellation date using this form.

Norwegians Peace of Mind Policy

Princess Cruises

All cruises in and out of Australia and New Zealand have been canceled through December 18, 2020. All other cruises have been canceled through December 15, 2020. Select 2021 cruises have also been canceled.

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

If you need to cancel a Princess cruise during this time due to COVID-19, you’ll have 2 options. This policy will be applied to any guest who made a final payment and canceled their cruise on or after February 4, 2020, and all cruises that were scheduled to depart between March 12, 2020, and June 30, 2020.

Option 1: 100% of the money you paid can be transferred to a future cruise of your choice through May 1, 2022. You’ll receive a future cruise credit benefit.

Option 2: You can opt to receive a full cash refund. You’ll also receive a future cruise credit (however it will be a smaller credit than option 1).

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

All Regent Seven Seas cruises have been canceled from March 13, 2020, until October 31, 2020. All Canada and New England cruises for the remainder of 2020 have also been canceled plus select 2021 cruises.

If you were booked on a sailing that has been canceled, you have 2 options for a refund:

  1. Receive a 125% Future Cruise Credit that can be applied to any sailing through December 31, 2022.
  2. Request a 100% refund to the original form of payment. You’ll receive a refund within 90 days of your request.

Regent Reassurance

Regent Reassurance is Regent’s relaxed cancellation policy for all reservations made by May 31, 2020, with departure dates by December 31, 2022.

If you’ve paid in full you can cancel up to 15 days before departure and receive a 100% Future Cruise Credit which can be applied to any reservation made within 1 year and sailing by December 31, 2022.

All Royal Caribbean sailings have been canceled from March 15, 2020, until October 31, 2020 (sailings leaving from the U.S. were canceled as of March 13, 2020). In addition, the following sailings have been canceled:

  • Odyssey of the Seas sailings from November 5, 2020, through April 17, 2021
  • Jewel of the Seas February 14, 2021 departure
  • European and Transatlantic sailings through November 30, 2020
  • Australia sailings through December 31, 2020

If you were scheduled on a Royal Caribbean cruise from March 13, 2020, to October 31, 2020, you can receive a 125% Future Cruise Credit or a 100% refund to the original form of payment. If you choose the Future Cruise Credit, you should receive it via email, and it can be used towards any cruise through December 31, 2021.

If you’d prefer a cash refund, you can request it by submitting a form here anytime now through December 31, 2021. Refunds will be issued within 30 days of submitting your request.

How to Cancel a Royal Caribbean Cruise

If you booked with a travel agent, contact your travel agent to cancel, if you booked directly with Royal Caribbean, you can call 866-562-7625 to cancel.

All Seabourn sailings have been canceled from March 14, 2020, through October or November 2020 (depending on the ship).

  • Seabourn Encore sailings are canceled through January 6, 2020
  • Seabourn Odyssey sailings are canceled through December 5, 2020
  • Seabourne Ovation sailings are canceled through January 3, 2020
  • Seabourn Quest sailings are canceled through May 10, 2020
  • Seabourn Sojourn sailings are canceled through May 24, 2021

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

Guests who were scheduled on a canceled cruise have 2 options for a refund.

  1. Receive a 125% refund in the form of a future cruise credit, which can be applied to any cruise through December 31, 2022.
  2. Receive a 100% refund back to the original form of payment.

If you have only paid a deposit for your canceled cruise, you’ll receive a Future Cruise Credit worth 125% of the amount you paid plus and onboard credit of $300 per suite.

How to Cancel a Seabourn Cruise

Silversea Cruises has canceled the following voyages:

  • Silver Cloud: all departures through November 15, 2020
  • Silver Wind: all departures through June 13, 2021
  • Silver Shadow: all departures through November 9, 2020
  • Silver Spirit: all departures through November 4, 2020
  • Silver Muse: all departures through December 19, 2020
  • Silver Whisper: all departures through December 8, 2020
  • Silver Explorer: all departures through December 20, 2020
  • Silver Galapagos: all departures through October 31, 2020
  • Silver Moon: all departures through November 7, 2020
  • Silver Origin: all departures through November 6, 2020
  • Silver Dawn: all departures through November 8, 2020

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

Guests who were scheduled on a canceled cruise have 2 options for a refund.

  1. Receive a 125% refund in the form of a future cruise credit, which can be applied to any cruise within 2 years of issuance.
  2. Receive a 100% refund back to the original form of payment within 90 days of the request.

Exceptions to this policy are as follows:

  • Guests booked on Silver Spirit voyages that were scheduled to leave on March 15, 2020, or March 25, 2020, will receive a 100% cash refund to the original method of payment and a 25% future cruise credit that can be used on any voyage within 2 years of issuance.
  • Guests booked on Silver Whisper voyages scheduled to depart on April 7, 2020, April 18, 2020, May 6, 2020, and May 15, 2020, or the Full World Cruise 2020 will receive a 125% future cruise credit of the unused portion of their cruise fare which can be applied to any cruise within 2 years or a 100% refund of the unused portion of their booking.

If you’d like to cancel any sailing between August and December 2020, you’ll get a 100% cash refund if you cancel within 30 days of departure. However, these cancellations will be subject to a $200 fee.

Viking Cruises

Viking has canceled all ocean and river cruises departing between March 12, 2020, and December 31, 2020.

Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19

Guests who were scheduled on a canceled cruise have 2 options for a refund.

  1. Receive a 125% refund in the form of a future cruise credit, which can be applied to any ocean, river, or expedition cruise within 2 years of issuance. If you don’t use the voucher by the expiration date, a 100% refund will automatically be sent.
  2. Receive a 100% refund back to the original form of payment within 90 days of the request.

Risk-Free Guarantee

Viking’s Risk-Free Guarantee is available for any booking made by April 30, 2020 (even those made in 2019).

With this guarantee, when you change your reservation with at least 24 hours’ notice, you’ll get a 100% refund in the form of a future cruise credit that can be used on any voyage within 2 years.

How do I cancel my upcoming cruise?

Each cruise line has a different method to cancel your cruise and request a refund or cruise credit. Most have an online form to submit in lieu of calling.

Should I take the future cruise credit or get a refund?

This is a personal choice, but taking the future cruise credit is usually more valuable. Most cruise lines will let you use the credit on any sailing through at least 2021, so there will be plenty of opportunities to use it. If, however, you’re in a tight financial spot due to the current situation, it may make more sense to take the refund.
