The AAdvantage Globe card offers a handful of exciting benefits, positioning it squarely in a void in American Airlines’ existing credit cards with no annual fee, a low annual fee, and a high annual fee — nothing in the mid-tier range. The card comes with some solid benefits on American Airlines, of course, as well as a few travel and lifestyle benefits. The AAdvantage Globe card has an annual fee of $350, which is modest compared to some other travel cards.

Here’s how you’ll earn AAdvantage miles with the card:

  • 6x miles on eligible AAdvantage Hotels bookings
  • 3x miles on eligible American Airlines purchases
  • 2x miles at restaurants, including takeout and delivery
  • 2x miles on “Rides and Rails,” including taxis, ride shares, and public transit
  • 1x miles on other purchases

Additionally, you’ll also earn 1 Loyalty Point toward AAdvantage elite status for every eligible AAdvantage mile earned from your purchases.

And here are the benefits you’ll get when you open the card:

  • 4 Admirals Club Globe passes, which are each valid for 24 hours, giving you access to nearly 50 Admirals Club lounges worldwide.
  • American Airlines Companion Certificate, redeemable for $99 plus taxes and fees, and valid for a round-trip domestic flight in Main Cabin; this is received each year after card renewal.
  • Up to $100 in statement credits on inflight purchases when using your card on qualifying American Airlines flights.
  • First checked bag free on domestic American Airlines itineraries for the primary cardmember and up to 8 companions traveling together on the same reservation.
  • Group 5 boarding on American Airlines flights for the primary cardmember and up to 8 companions traveling together on the same reservation.
  • Up to $120 Global Entry or TSA PreCheck statement credit after using your card to pay the application fee, available once every 4 years.
  • Up to $240 in Turo credits annually, available as up to $30 per eligible Turo trip for a maximum of $240 in credits per calendar year — with a maximum of $30 credit per billing period.
  • Access to Citi Entertainment, Mastercard World Legend benefits, and Mastercard Collection benefits.
  • Protections like trip cancellation coverage, trip interruption coverage, lost or damaged luggage protection, car rental coverage, trip delay insurance, extended warranty coverage, and purchase assurance plus.
  • No foreign transaction fees.
  • Up to $100 Splurge Credit each year, valid toward up to 2 of the following: AAdvantage Hotels bookings, 1stDibs, Future Personal Training, and Live Nation.

How Does the Splurge Credit Work?

When you open the AAdvantage Globe card, you’ll receive up to $100 in Splurge Credit each year. You can apply the credit toward AAdvantage Hotels bookings, 1stDibs, Future Personal Training, and Live Nation. However, you can only select 2, so make sure to choose wisely!

There are some similarities between the Splurge Credit on the AAdvantage Globe card and a new premium card from Citi. The Citi Strata Elite℠ Card offers up to $200 in annual Splurge Credits per calendar year from up to 2 of the following brands: 1stDibs, American Airlines, Best Buy, Future Personal Training, and Live Nation.

However, the AAdvantage Globe card doesn’t have Best Buy as a category. Moreover, its Splurge Credit is limited to AAdvantage Hotels only (and not general American Airlines purchases), and the credit’s value is only $100, rather than $200.

AAdvantage Hotels

While you have several options for redeeming your Splurge Credit, we recommend using it for travel. One way to do so is through AAdvantage Hotels, an online travel agency that allows you to earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points by booking hotels.

For instance, if you wanted to book a 1-night stay at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, you’d pay just $169 on select nights, and your Splurge Credit would cover more than half of that.

Hot Tip:

Additionally, you’ll earn at least 300 miles per AAdvantage Hotels stay as an AAdvantage member and more than 4,000 miles per stay if you’re an AAdvantage credit cardholder with AAdvantage elite status. You can also double dip this benefit with the 6x miles you’ll earn on eligible AAdvantage Hotels bookings.

1stDibs

1stDibs is an online marketplace that sells a wide range of items, including furniture, art, fine jewelry, and more. It’s similar to Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace, but for luxury goods.

You may find it more difficult to use your Splurge Credit on the platform, but there are some deals available on items like accessories. If you look hard, you may find something you like for $100 or under, but if you don’t mind spending a little more, you’ll find some designer watches for around $300.

Future Personal Training

Future is a virtual personal training platform for busy people who want to stay active. Your coach works with your schedule to create tailored workouts and discusses your lifestyle, goals, equipment, and injury history to ensure your plan is tailored to your specific needs. You also get access to the Future platform to monitor your progress.

Future costs $99 for your first month of personal training and then $199 per month after.

Live Nation

If you’re into live entertainment, this may be the way to use your Splurge Credit. One of the categories is Live Nation, an entertainment company that sells tickets for concerts, shows, festivals, and merchandise.

It is one of the most prominent companies in the live entertainment industry, and most tickets are sold through its platform. Several big-name artists — including Cardi B, Doja Cat, Maroon 5, and Shakira — have deals with Live Nation for their concerts and tours.

Is the Splurge Credit Worth It?

The Splurge Credit on the AAdvantage Globe card is worth it, primarily because it comes with the card. There are some interesting merchants to choose from, covering retail, health and fitness, travel, and entertainment.

Some, like AAdvantage Hotels, may be easier to use than others, but you should be able to find value in any category.

Final Thoughts

The AAdvantage Globe card is a solid choice for American Airlines loyalists looking to enhance their inflight travel and lifestyle on the ground. For a $350 annual fee, the card offers some impressive perks, including enhanced AAdvantage earnings, lounge passes, a shortcut to status perk, lifestyle benefits, and a Splurge Credit.

While the Splurge Credit can be applied to up to 2 merchants, your best bet for maximum value is to use it on an AAdvantage Hotels booking.
