For that relatively reasonable annual fee, cardholders receive a long list of benefits that include:

  • 4 Admirals Club lounge passes annually, valid for 24 hours each.
  • Complimentary first checked bag for you and up to 8 companions on your same itinerary, valid on domestic American Airlines itineraries.

There are some really attractive credits on that list, especially for a card without an eye-watering annual fee. This is the first card we have seen with a Turo credit, which is quite unique. However, Citi has been introducing new benefits lately, including the Splurge Credit and Admirals Club passes, which are also on the new Citi Strata Elite℠ Card.

It’s not all just statement credits; AAdvantage Globe cardholders will earn AAdvantage miles at the following rates:

  • 6x miles on eligible AAdvantage Hotels bookings
  • 3x miles on eligible American Airlines purchases
  • 2x miles at restaurants, including takeout and delivery
  • 2x miles on “Rides and Rails,” including taxis, ride shares, and public transit
  • 1x miles on all other purchases

Chasing elite status? Cardholders will also earn 1 Loyalty Point toward AAdvantage elite status for every eligible AAdvantage mile earned from purchases. Cardholders can also earn up to 15,000 bonus Loyalty Points toward AAdvantage elite status each qualification year through the Flight Streak benefit.

How To Get the up to $30 Monthly Turo Credit

With the AAdvantage Globe card, cardholders can receive up to $30 in statement credits per month at Turo, the world’s largest car-sharing marketplace, up to $240 annually.

Credits will be reflected once per statement for each eligible completed trip on Turo.

Turo is a peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace that has established itself as an attractive alternative to traditional car rental companies. With a seemingly unlimited variety of vehicles to choose from, not only can you save money on your car rental, but you can also choose the exact car you want.

Although some extra effort is required when picking up and returning your car, as you need to coordinate with your host, the cost may be worth the convenience tradeoff.

If you rent with Turo regularly, the AAdvantage Globe card can get you a solid discount. To receive the up to $30 statement credit, you need to use your AAdvantage Globe card to pay for your rental, and you will receive the credit once the rental is complete.

It is unclear whether or not a prepaid reservation would trigger the credit at the time of payment or when the contract is closed.

Although the monthly statement credit can reach $30, the total is capped at $240 per year. So, to maximize this benefit, you would need to complete 8 rentals in 8 separate months and spend a minimum of $30 on each one. Or, spend $20 each month of the year to receive 12 smaller statement credits.

Since most rentals will cost more than $30, this credit will act more like a discount than a free rental for most users. And because the AAdvantage Globe card only earns 1x miles on Turo rentals, cardholders will need to consider the opportunity cost compared to using an alternative credit card with a higher reward rate.

Final Thoughts

The new AAdvantage Globe card comes with up to $240 annual Turo credit, a unique benefit not seen on other cards, which could be useful to some travelers.

However, since the credit is capped at $30 per statement, and not $240 all at once, cardholders will need to weigh whether or not it is worth using this card for the car rental. Since the AAdvantage Globe card only earns 1x miles on car rentals, using an alternative card with a higher earning rate may be worth the trade-off.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the AAdvantage Globe card Turo credit work?

Does the Citi Globe Turo credit hit all at once?

No, the Turo credit is up to $30 per month, capped at $240 per year.

What happens if I spend more than $30 at Turo with my AAdvantage Globe card?

If you spend more than $30 at Turo in a month, you will only receive $30 in statement credits.

Is it worth using the AAdvantage Globe card on Turo rentals?

Since the AAdvantage Globe card only earns 1x miles on car rentals, it would be wise to run a quick cost-benefit analysis. For a cheap rental, the $30 statement credit could represent a large percentage of the charge, and therefore would likely be worth it. However, it may be worth using a travel card that earns more points or miles for more expensive rentals, which could be worth more than the $30.
