American Airlines has shared a piece of very exciting news for anyone based in the Charlotte area — or who flies through the city’s airport often.

The Fort Worth-based airline will open a brand-new Flagship Lounge and expand on its current Admirals Club offering throughout the airport.

Here’s everything we know so far.

Charlotte Is Finally Getting a Flagship Lounge

Charlotte (CLT) is American Airlinessecond-largest hub, but it’s been maligned over the years for not having a Flagship Lounge like those found at many other hubs and for having old, cramped, and generally subpar Admirals Clubs throughout the airport.

It looks like things will be changing soon, however, as American has announced plans to (finally) introduce a Flagship Lounge at CLT. Plus, it will dedicate more space to completely revamped Admirals Clubs, whether that means building all-new spaces or expanding and renovating the current ones.

Currently, American operates 3 Admirals Club spaces — 2 traditional lounges in Concourses B and C/D in addition to a new grab-and-go concept, called Provisions by Admirals Club in Concourse A.

The airline says that “construction details and timing will be shared at a later date,” so we don’t have many specifics right now. However, the news is significant nonetheless, signaling to flyers who utilize the airport that an elevated experience is on the way.

The airline just opened new Admirals Clubs and a Flagship Lounge at its Philadelphia (PHL) hub, and those look mighty impressive. It stands to reason that the new spaces in Charlotte will emulate — if not build upon — the bar set by those lounges.

The Flagship Lounge location will feature the “neighborhoods” design concept, which are dedicated areas for specific activities such as lounging or eating, in addition to amenities like shower suites, work rooms, and kid-friendly spaces.

How To Access Flagship Lounges

American’s Flagship Lounge is reserved for its most premium customers. To gain access, you will need to meet one of the following requirements:

Unlike the Admirals Club, having an American Airlines co-branded credit card won’t get you access to the Flagship Lounge.

Final Thoughts

American Airlines is investing significantly in its lounge offerings in Charlotte, which is certainly welcome news for travelers based in the Charlotte area or who pass through the airport often.

We don’t have too many specifics right now, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as we continue to learn more. What we know so far is already grounds for excitement.
