Update:

The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

If you’re looking to buy Finnair Avios with a bonus, there’s good news. Until September 18, 2024, you can buy Avios with up to a 50% bonus.

Given Finnair’s adoption of Avios in early 2024, this also provides a way to purchase Avios with British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus.

Should you buy? Let’s check out the details.

Buy Finnair Avios — Promotion Details

Finnair offers sales on Avios with some regularity, switching between discounts and bonus Avios on these sales.

This promotion allows you to purchase Avios with up to a 50% bonus, bringing your purchase price down to 1.55 cents per Avios if you maximize the offer. The promotion is valid from now to September 18, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. EEST (4:59 p.m. ET in the U.S.). This pricing is valid whether you’re buying Avios for yourself or gifting them to another Finnair Plus member.

If you maximize this promotion, you can purchase up to 200,000 Finnair Avios. After adding the 50% bonus, you’ll get 300,000 Avios for 4,200€ (~$4,649.49). That’s 1.55 cents per Avios.

Note that the terms of this offer state that bonus Avios may take up to 3 days to appear in your Finnair Plus account.

Is It Worth It?

While we would never recommend purchasing miles speculatively (thanks to seemingly constant and unannounced program devaluations), this can represent a fairly good deal. Finnair’s award chart allows you to redeem 62,500 Avios for a one-way business class flight from the U.S. East Coast to Finland.

You could purchase 62,500 Avios (at 1.55 cents each) for $968.75. Considering that same flight often costs over $4,000, you’ll save a lot by buying Avios here.

Other valuable uses of Finnair Avios include flights within Northern Europe, upgrades on discounted Finnair cash tickets, and transcontinental flights within the U.S.

Hot Tip:

Purchases of Finnair Avios are processed by Points.com, meaning these won’t count as an airfare purchase on your credit card. If you’re buying Avios, you’ll get the best earnings by paying with a solid credit card for everyday spending or putting these purchases on a new credit card with a welcome bonus.

Is It Worth It?

For those looking to stock up on Finnair Avios, this sale can present an attractive option. It also might be attractive if you’re wanting Avios to use with British Airways Executive Club, Iberia Plus, or Aer Lingus AerClub. That’s because you can transfer Avios freely and instantly across these programs.

However, there are other ways to earn Finnair Avios instead buying them. You can transfer Capital One miles to Finnair at a 1:1 ratio, and transfers should be immediate. With this transfer option and the ability to transfer from other Avios programs, any credit card earning nearly any type of transferable points should help you accrue Finnair Avios without needing to buy them.

However, if you’ve exhausted other sources and have a redemption in mind, buying Finnair Avios can make sense if it’s cheaper than buying the flight with cash.

Final Thoughts

It doesn’t always make sense to purchase points and miles, but it can make sense if you just need to top off your account for a redemption or if the cost of buying Avios for a redemption is cheaper than buying the flight. If you’re interested in this sale, you can buy Finnair Avios with up to a 50% bonus through September 18.
