The fintech start-up Cardless, known for launching digital-first credit cards for brands, has just landed a partnership and sizable investment from perhaps the most well-known name in the credit card space — American Express.

This partnership is sure to offer added value to Cardless’ customers and is likely to lead to some exciting new products and features in the future.

Partnership Details

In short, this partnership will allow brands to seamlessly launch digital-first credit cards leveraging the Cardless platform, backed by the benefits, offers, and security of the American Express network — an attractive proposition, no doubt.

What does this mean for customers? Well, they are set to receive benefits like access to Amex Offers, purchase protections, access to exclusive presale tickets, and Global Dining Access by Resy.

Of course, this is in addition to the standard Cardless benefits like rewards tailored to the brands you love, virtual cards upon approval, flexible redemption options, fraud protection, and more.

This is undoubtedly a big win for Cardless, and the President and Co-Founder of Cardless Michael Spelfogel states, “American Express is recognized for having one of the largest and most active credit card networks in the world, with the most loyal cardholders. We couldn’t be more excited to combine Cardless’ ability to launch cards seamlessly with the valuable benefits that consumers expect from the American Express network.”

What Cardless Cards Will Have American Express Benefits?

At the moment, none of the current Cardless credit cards are set to offer American Express benefits and will continue on in their current iterations.

However, Cardless is planning to share the details of its first American Express co-branded card partnership later this year.

American Express has put its money where its mouth is, though, and has provided a significant investment from Amex Ventures, its strategic investment group, so it’s likely the new card that is set to be announced later this year will be the first of many.

Hot Tip: Previously, Cardless had exclusively launched credit card products for sports teams, such as Liverpool F.C., the Boston Celtics, and the Miami Marlins, but now has its first travel rewards card offerings with 2 co-branded LATAM cards.

Final Thoughts

It is great to see the innovation that Cardless is bringing to the credit card space for both brands and customers, and it is encouraging to see a market leader like American Express support this innovation.

While the jury is still out on just how lucrative this partnership will prove to be to customers, we are very much looking forward to the new card products and benefits that will come out of it.
