U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced a new app for Global Entry members, which should help expedite entry into the U.S.

Let’s take a look at the news!

Free App Available for Global Entry Members at Select Airports

According to CBP, Global Entry members will take a selfie through the app, which will be compared to a photo gallery to verify their identity through facial biometrics. Members will then receive a receipt — likely the same one you receive when using the kiosk at the airport — that you’ll show to a CBP officer for entry into the U.S.

Initially, the app will be available for use at the following airports:

The app is available on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and is free to download.

“The new Global Entry mobile application leverages the latest technologies, in order to enhance security while further improving the travel experience for CBP’s trusted travelers,” said CBP’s Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner Troy A. Miller.

According to CBP, more than 12 million Global Entry members are enrolled in the program.

How To Get a Global Entry Membership

If you aren’t familiar, Global Entry is one of 5 Trusted Traveler Programs offered by the CBP; the other 4 are FAST, SENTRINEXUS, and TSA PreCheck.

When you have Global Entry, you get an expedited immigration and customs security screening process when returning to the U.S. from any international travel.

To apply, all applicants must pay a one-time fee of $120 (as of October 1, 2024). When you’re approved for Global Entry, you’ll also get access to TSA PreCheck, valued at $78.

While $120 may not seem like a lot of money, there are ways to wipe the charge entirely. More than 30 credit cards include a Global Entry credit, including some of our favorites here at Upgraded Points, such as the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit CardInformation collected independently. Not reviewed by Capital One.Chase Sapphire Reserve®, The Platinum Card® from American Express, and Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card.

Hot Tip:

Once approved for Global Entry, you will have access to the program for 5 years.

Final Thoughts

CBP is making it easier to expedite entry into the U.S. with the launch of a new Global Entry app. While the app is only available at a handful of airports, we look forward to seeing the program expand at other major airports in the future!

The information regarding the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card was independently collected by Upgraded Points and not provided nor reviewed by the issuer.
