This deal is on American Airlines between New York/Newark and the Caribbean island of Dominica (no, not the Dominican Republic). The deals all include a short layover in Miami International Airport (MIA).

You can play around with dates on Google Flights and then book directly through American. You may find cheaper prices with less-reputable online travel agencies (OTAs), but if you want peace of mind in case your travel plans change, you should book directly with the airline or through an OTA like Expedia.

Dominica is a tiny island in the Caribbean, nestled between Martinique and Guadeloupe. Owing to its high mountains and rainforests, it is considered the “greenest” in the region.

While there are few big-box hotel chains or points hotels on the island, you have 2 options for booking a stay with points.

First up is Atlantique View Resort and Spa, an Ascend Hotel Collection brand under the Choice Privileges umbrella. The resort is a steal if you want to visit the island on a budget, with rates starting around $130 per night. (Award nights don’t appear to be available).

The more luxurious option is the InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort & Spa. Rates start at around $450 or 72,000 IHG One Rewards points per night.

Final Thoughts
