Now through May 22, 2022, you can earn double the Amtrak Guest Rewards points on all Amtrak bookings. This promotion is an easy way to accumulate more Amtrak points by simply just riding the rails.

The Offer

From April 6 to May 22, 2022, you’ll receive 2 times the Amtrak points on all Amtrak purchases — from coach class to business class to a sleeper room. Every Amtrak ticket will earn twice the points, so long as you register for the offer.

In an obvious point of fine print, you need to provide your member number when you book, and you won’t receive points on canceled or refunded tickets, though that hopefully shouldn’t come as a surprise to most folks.

Where This May Come in Handy

Interestingly, any Amtrak points accumulated via this promotion will count toward Amtrak elite status — so if you earn 100 Amtrak points normally, and then earn another 100 points via this promotion, that’s 200 points earned toward Amtrak status. Essentially, you can consider this offer an opportunity to earn Amtrak status twice as fast.

Using Amtrak Points

You can use Amtrak points for a number of things, including:

Amtrak tickets in all classes of service including coach class, business class, first class (on Acela only), and a sleeping compartment on long-distance trains. While redemption values usually follow the cash cost of a ticket, redeeming for a premium cabin or sleeper service room can be a great value.
You can redeem your points for upgrades, which are most valuable when upgrading from Acela business class to Acela first class.
You can redeem for Amtrak lounge passes, valid at Metropolitan Lounges and ClubAcela lounges.
In addition to utilizing on Amtrak, you can transfer your points to a few partners, as well as redeem them for gift cards, though these are traditionally a poor value.

This offer is open to all Amtrak Guest Rewards members and is available for all trains traveled within the promotion period, so it’s nice to see a non-targeted promotion with such an easy ability to earn points. Amtrak points are one of the few currencies that can’t be transferred in from elsewhere, so to be able to earn points twice as fast can be very lucrative if you have particular Amtrak redemptions in mind or aspire to earn more Amtrak points.
