6 Reasons Why JSX Is the Best Way To Fly Between South Florida and New York

The author flew as an invited guest of JSX. All opinions are the author’s own, and JSX did not have any input in any part of this review.

I’ve flown between South Florida and New York City more times than I can count, and it’s rarely fun. Between the TSA lines that drag on forever, crowded gates, and the inevitable delays, the whole process usually feels more draining than the flight itself.

So when I heard JSX, had started nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) and Westchester County Airport (HPN) in the New York City area, I was intrigued.

If you’re not familiar, JSX is a public charter jet service that mixes the perks of semiprivate jet travel with the convenience (and price point) of commercial flying. The idea of skipping long security lines, showing up just 20 minutes before departure, and boarding straight from a private hangar sounded almost too good to be true.

After the flight, I left genuinely impressed. And the more I thought about it, the clearer it became. These are 6 reasons why JSX might just be the best way to fly between South Florida and New York right now.

1. No Long TSA Lines … Ever

Pulling up to JSX’s private terminal at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport instantly felt different from any airport I’ve ever flown out of. The parking lot looked more like something outside a shopping plaza than an airport terminal. I got out of my Uber, grabbed my backpack, and was inside within seconds.

JSX FXE Office
Pulling up to JSX’s terminal at FXE, I honestly thought I’d arrived at a shopping plaza instead of an airport.

Once inside, 2 friendly agents greeted me at the front desk. I handed over my ID, and 30 seconds later, I had my boarding pass in hand. That was it — no TSA PreCheck line, no kiosk, no separate line for dropping checked bags.

JSX FXE
Inside, the waiting area felt more like a modern lounge, with comfy seats and a relaxed vibe.

The lounge-style waiting area felt calm and comfortable, with plenty of seating, flat-screen monitors displaying the day’s flight schedule, and restrooms conveniently nearby.

JSX FXE Seating
There were more than enough seats — not surprising when only 30 people are flying on each E145 jet.

There was even a small self-serve station with snacks, coffee, and cold brew, a thoughtful touch that made the wait feel more like a lounge experience than waiting at the gate to board.

Cold brew before my flight? Yes, please!

When boarding time came, just 20 minutes before departure, I quickly passed through a TSA-approved security screening and strolled straight to the plane. There were no boarding groups to listen for, no shouting gate agents, and no stress. It was a seamless, 2-minute journey from the lounge to the jet.

2. Private-Jet Feel Without the Private-Jet Price

The South Florida–to–New York route is one of the most competitive — and dreaded — in the country. Before my trip, I checked Google Flights for one-way domestic first-class fares from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Miami (MIA) to the New York City area.

Prices ranged from $300 to $400 one-way to sit up front and fly between the 2 metropolitan areas with major carriers American Airlines and Delta Air Lines for the dates I wanted to fly.

Comparatively speaking, JSX was charging $495 one-way for the route between Fort Lauderdale and Westchester County Airport (HPN).

JSX rates start at $495 each way, only slightly higher than what you’d pay on a major carrier for travel between the 2 metro areas. Image Credit: JSX

Since I was flying into Westchester County Airport, about an hour north of Midtown Manhattan, and not New York’s major airports JFK or LaGuardia, I went ahead and priced out a direct flight from MIA to Westchester County Airport to see how JSX compared.

American Airlines was charging $404 one-way from Miami, not far off from JSX’s starting fares, but without any of the semiprivate perks.

JSX manages to fill an interesting gap in the market. It’s not as expensive as private aviation, yet it feels nothing like flying on a major commercial airline. For roughly $100 more, I was skipping long TSA lines and boarding a jet with fewer than 15 people.

When you factor in the time saved, the smaller airport experience, and the comfort on board, it suddenly feels like a steal. I wasn’t paying for luxury so much as convenience and sanity.

3. Comfortable, Quiet Cabin

JSX flies 30-seat Embraer 145 jets in a 1-1 configuration, meaning 1 seat on each side of the aisle.

JSX E145 Cabin
JSX’s Embraer E145 jet seats 30 passengers in a single aisle, so every traveler has both a window and an aisle seat.

I sat on the port side (the left facing forward) and immediately noticed how much space I had to myself. The seat was wide, with its own armrest, cupholders, and more legroom than most domestic first-class seats I’ve flown.

Juan Ruiz JSX
I had a seat on the C side, the port side, since those have cushioned armrests and cupholders, providing me with more room to spread out.

There were only about 10 other passengers on board that day, and the entire cabin felt calm and quiet. It was such a contrast to the hustle and chatter of a packed mainline flight. The lighting was soft, the interior was clean and modern, and the whole environment had a boutique feel.

JSX Seats
The cabin was spotless, quiet, and genuinely relaxing.

It genuinely felt like I was on a private jet, even though it would have cost me about the same as a typical premium, domestic, first-class fare between these 2 metro regions.

Hot Tip:

On JSX aircraft, the seats on the port side are labeled “C” while the right side is labeled “A.” If you want cupholders, a cushioned armrest divider, and more elbow room, go for one of the C seats.

JSX was the first U.S. carrier to roll out Starlink Wi-Fi across its entire fleet, and it absolutely shows. I was able to stream my favorite college football team’s game live on my phone the entire flight without a single buffer.

Free Starlink Wi Fi JSX
The Starlink Wi-Fi lived up to the hype, easily allowing me to stream live TV without any hiccups.

In addition to the Wi-Fi, everything on board is included — and that’s a big differentiator. The single flight attendant assigned to the flight passed out complimentary cheese boxes filled with crackers, figs, a pear, and grapes.

JSX Snack Infliight Cheese box
The box of cheese and snacks was a nice little treat during the flight.

A few minutes later, she came down the aisle, offering various snacks, including olives, cookies, chips, and beef jerky.

JSX Snacks Inflight
I loved that more snacks were passed out shortly after the cheese box.

Alcoholic drinks are complimentary as well. I went with a vodka soda midflight and later grabbed a canned cold brew.

JSX Refreshments
Both alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks are free, with selections available from the inflight menu.

Between the strong Wi-Fi connection and quality snacks, it was one of the most enjoyable domestic flights I’ve taken in a while. I watched games on my phone, accessed my social media apps, and texted with loved ones without having to reach for my credit card — something that is all too uncommon on the major U.S. carriers.

5. Seamless Experience From Door to Door

If departure was easy, arrival might have been even smoother. After touching down in Westchester County Airport, the flight attendant announced that passengers with checked bags should remain on board until their luggage was unloaded, while those with only carry-ons could step right off.

Since I just had a backpack, I was off the plane within a minute, walking across the tarmac and into the small arrivals area, where my Uber was already waiting. From wheels down to car door took less than 5 minutes — an almost surreal experience compared to the baggage-claim crowds and taxi lines at JFK or LGA (or MIA or FLL, for that matter).

Flying into Westchester makes the most sense if you’re staying in White Plains, within Westchester County or even visiting northern Manhattan or the Bronx. It’s a small, convenient airport that keeps you out of the chaos of New York’s bigger hubs, but it’s worth noting that it’s about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Midtown Manhattan on a weekend — and potentially up to 2 hours during weekday or traffic.

So if your trip centers around Midtown or downtown Manhattan, you’ll likely get there faster flying into one of New York City’s major airports.

On the other hand, arriving in Fort Lauderdale via JSX is equally seamless and incredibly convenient.

JSX FXE Arrival
Getting back to FXE was effortless. I stepped off the plane, walked maybe 30 seconds, and was already in my Uber.

Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport sits just a bit north of the main Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, but still close to most areas in the city. It’s perfect if you’re heading anywhere in Fort Lauderdale or the surrounding area. If your destination is Miami, it’s still very doable — just expect a slightly longer drive, since FXE is farther north.

Either way, avoiding the crowds and hopping straight into your Uber seconds after landing made the entire process feel seamless from beginning to end.

6. Thoughtful Service From Check-In to Touchdown

Across both of my flights — Fort Lauderdale to Westchester and back — the service stood out. With only 1 flight attendant on board, the experience feels intimate in the best way. Both attendants I had in each direction were friendly, professional, and genuinely seemed to enjoy their work.

They frequently checked on me (and the other passengers), offered refills without asking, and ensured I had what I needed to be comfortable. The same level of care was extended to the ground agents, who greeted every passenger by name and made the whole process feel more personal than transactional.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that JSX ground staff and crew treat you like a guest rather than a seat number. That tone carries through the entire journey, from the front desk to the cabin.

Final Thoughts

Flying JSX felt refreshingly simple, and it was the kind of experience that reminds you air travel doesn’t have to be stressful. Skipping TSA lines, boarding from a quiet private terminal, and settling into a comfortable seat without the usual airport chaos made the whole trip feel effortless.

Starting at around $495 one-way, it’s definitely not the cheapest option, but considering the time saved and the comfort level, I can see the appeal, especially on a route as busy as South Florida to New York.

Overall, I left genuinely impressed. JSX delivers on what it promises, and it’s an experience I’d gladly repeat the next time I need to make this trip.
