The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is one of the most popular travel rewards cards on the market. The card has a great welcome offer, a simplified earning structure, a reasonable annual fee, and flexible redemption options.

Recently, Capital One introduced an elevated welcome offer on the already popular card. Eligible applicants can score 75,000 bonus miles — plus a $250 Capital One Travel credit — after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months.

While you must meet the $4,000 minimum spend requirement to earn the 75,000 bonus miles, approved applicants will see the $250 credit reflected to their accounts within 72 hours. We value Capital One miles at 1.8 cents apiece, making the current welcome offer worth an astounding $1,350. However, that value does not even include the limited-time $250 Capital One Travel credit, which we’ll discuss more in-depth below.

Hot Tip:

This limited-time welcome offer is among the best we’ve seen on the Capital One Venture card. Take a look at the Capital One Venture card’s welcome bonus offer history over the past 5 years!

What is Capital One Travel?

Although cardholders can transfer Capital One miles to various airline and hotel partners, they can also redeem miles for flights, hotels, vacation rentals, travel packages, and rental cars through the Capital One Travel portal. Additionally, certain purchases through the portal can earn bonus miles.

With Capital One Venture card, you will earn 5x miles on hotels, vacation rentals, and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel.

How to Use the $250 Capital One Travel Credit

Capital One Venture cardholders can access Capital One Travel by logging onto their Capital One account. Within the portal, you can view your available miles, their redemption value through Capital One Travel, and any applicable travel credits, including the $250 credit from the Capital One Venture card’s elevated welcome offer.

As noted earlier, this 1-time credit may take up to 72 hours to appear in your account and must be used within the first year of opening your card.

Book Flights

Capital One Travel’s straightforward user interface makes booking travel easy. To book flights, click on the “Flights” tab and begin the search with your arrival and departure airports, number of passengers, fare class, and travel dates.

For example, here is a search for round-trip airfare between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Capital One Travel has a monthly calendar view with colors, allowing you to see which dates offer the lowest prices for airfare.

Capital One Travel’s price prediction tool also tells users whether it’s a good time to book airfare. From here, you can see the forecasted highest price and when airfare prices are expected to change.

If you decide to book airfare, free price drop protection immediately kicks in. If the price drops within 10 days, you will get back up to $50 of the difference as a future Capital One travel credit.

As a Capital One cardholder, you can pay using miles at 1 cent each towards the flight. If you’d rather save your miles for a different time, you can press “Do not apply my rewards.” Instead, you can use your Capital One credit card to pay for your reservation.

Book Hotels

Booking hotels through Capital One Travel is just as easy as booking flights. Click on the “Hotels” tab, and enter your travel information, including your travel destination, check-in and check-out dates, and how many travelers and rooms you need.

Like booking flights through Capital One Travel, you can use the color-coded calendar to see which dates are cheapest. After selecting your dates, a list and map of hotel options will appear. You can use various filters to narrow your search, including ratings, amenities, cancelation policy, and price.

The hotel listings show the nightly price and the total for your stay (including taxes and fees) in cash and miles. After selecting a hotel, you can view its amenities. If you select the “Choose Room” option, you can view the room types that are available.

You can redeem Capital One miles to book hotels through Capital One Travel or pay in cash with your Capital One card. In many cases, it is a good idea to pay with your Capital One Venture card to earn 5x miles on hotels via Capital One Travel.

Book Rental Cars

To begin, click the “Rental Cars” tab and enter the necessary information. This includes the rental car pick-up and drop-off locations, the dates and times for pick-up and drop-off, and the driver’s age.

You will then be presented with many rental options, which can be narrowed down by car type, price per day, rental car company, cancelation policy, and other filters.

After selecting a vehicle, you will be presented with the booking conditions, including the pick-up and drop-off locations and the cancellation policy. As with hotel bookings, the Capital One Venture card earns 5x points on rental car bookings through Capital One Travel.

Vacation Packages Through Capital One Travel

Lastly, you can also book vacation packages through Capital One Travel, unlocking special rates when you bundle your flights and hotel.

Booking vacation packages can sometimes be more cost-effective than reserving flights and hotels separately, but it’s important to compare the prices of each component to ensure you’re actually saving.

Final Thoughts

The elevated welcome offer on the Capital One Venture card makes the fantastic travel rewards card even more enticing. With the limited-time welcome offer, you can earn an additional $250 towards travel through Capital One Travel — but be sure to take advantage of this perk within a year of applying.
