Rove, which is dubbing itself the first “universal airline mile,” is a new loyalty program seeking to disrupt the industry. The program has officially launched with 12 airline and hotel transfer partners.

Here’s what you need to know about Rove.

Earning Rove Miles

Rove is a new loyalty program that combines 12 programs into a single currency, allowing you to earn and redeem miles through its dedicated travel portal. Each transfer at a 1:1 ratio. The participating airline and hotel partners include:

Here’s how Rove says you’ll earn its miles:

    • Up to 25x miles on cash hotel stays: You’ll instantly earn miles on nonrefundable hotel stays
    • 3x bonus miles on cash flights: On top of the miles you earn from the airline, you’ll also earn 3x Rove Miles with every booking

Rove doesn’t have a co-branded credit card. Instead, you’ll earn miles through your own card. The company says you’ll earn miles in addition to your regular rewards when you download the Rove Shopping Chrome Extension, which is similar to programs like Rakuten and Capital One Shopping.

The program values 100,000 Rove Miles at 1.8 cents each for hotels, 2.2 cents each for economy flights, and a whopping 6 cents each for business class flights.

In a blog post on Y Combinator, founders Arhan Chhabra and Max Morganroth said the company was founded to address gaps in the “accessibility and usability” of points and miles.

“Travel rewards today exclude millions, especially young people,” the 2 founders wrote. “Over 70 million Americans can’t access premium travel credit cards, leaving a majority of Gen Z — the generation most eager to travel — unable to earn a meaningful number of miles and points across airline and hotel loyalty programs, which provide discounts of up to 90% compared to standard credit card travel portals.”

    Bottom Line:

Rove says you’ll also be able to earn Rove Miles on dining, on its own shopping portal, and on private jets. However, these features are not available yet.

    Final Thoughts

Rove is a new loyalty program strategically targeting Gen Z travelers, who are becoming a huge travel demographic. While much is still unknown about the program, we’re paying close attention to it. For now, you can sign up for a free Rove account at RoveMiles.com!
