Citi Targeted Spending Offer

Since this offer is targeted, it’s important to note that not everyone will receive it. Or, if they do, it may be different than the one we’re discussing here.

That being said, it’s wise to check your email and your physical mailbox, as Citi has been known to send these kinds of offers via snail mail and/or email in the past.

An Upgraded Points writer received an email offer on the Citi Prestige® Card (closed to new applicants) to earn 5 points per $1 spent on eligible purchases through July 31, 2025, if the offer is activated by June 22, 2025.

Eligible purchases include those made at gas stations, grocery stores, drug stores, mass transit, and commuter transportation. Note that there’s a maximum bonus of 2,500 ThankYou Points that can be earned with this offer, meaning you’ll maximize it as soon as you hit $500 in spending across these categories.

Here are a few other points you should be aware of:

  • Amtrak purchases do not count toward the mass transit and commuter transportation category.
  • The offer can be combined with additional Citi offers you may be enrolled in.
  • Bonus points earned will be posted to your ThankYou Rewards account within 1 to 2 billing cycles.

While this is the only offer we’ve seen among our team, we’ve seen targeted offers on the Citi Strata Premier℠ CardCiti Rewards+® Card (closed to new applicants), Citi ThankYou® Preferred Card (closed to new applicants), the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®, and the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi in the past. All of this is to say that these offers tend to be highly specific and vary significantly between cardholders and card products.

Other offers we’ve received in the past include:

  • Earn 5x bonus ThankYou Points at electronics, home improvement, and home furnishing stores — up to a maximum of $500 in spending.
  • Earn 5x bonus ThankYou Points at restaurants and retail shopping — up to a maximum of $500 in spending.
  • Earn 10% bonus cash-back at restaurants, movie theaters, and show theaters — up to a maximum of $25 back.
Hot Tip:

There’s no harm in enrolling for offers such as these, even if you don’t think you’ll maximize them. If you get an offer, put that card in the front of your wallet so you remember to use it during the bonus-earning period.

Final Thoughts

Citi is sending out its latest round of targeted spending offers for cardholders. These offers typically don’t include small business credit cards, and not everyone will see the same offer — or might not receive any — on their personal cards. If you receive an offer, remember to activate it.
