Update:

The information below has expired and is no longer available.

Fans of Uber won’t be excited to hear that the Uber Rewards program is ending on August 31, 2022. The company has decided to focus on the newer Uber One program and is totally scrapping its loyalty program which has been around since 2018.

Here’s what you need to know.

Uber Rewards Is Ending Soon

In just over 2 weeks, the Uber Rewards program will be ending on August 31, 2022. After that date, you won’t be able to earn points or take advantage of any rewards. You will, however, be able to use your Uber Rewards points on Uber or Uber Eats purchases through October 31, 2022.

Hot Tip: Uber Rewards points are worth 1 cent each with every 500 points earned converted to $5 in Uber Cash in your account. Learn more about Uber and Uber Rewards in our ultimate guide to Uber and earning maximum points.

The company stated in an email sent out to members on August 13, 2022, that they are scrapping the loyalty program in order to focus on Uber One, a paid monthly membership program. This is bad news for customers since the Uber Rewards program was free.

Some members may also have been targeted via this email notification to receive 1 free month of Uber One.

What Is Uber One?

Uber One, formerly Uber Eats Pass, is a monthly membership program that can be used for both Uber and Uber Eats. For $9.99 a month, Uber One members get benefits including discounts and free Uber Eats deliveries.

If you’re a frequent Uber user, an Uber One membership may make sense, and there are ways to save money on your membership.

Anyone who holds the Platinum Card® from American Express or an American Express® Gold Card can use the monthly Uber Cash that comes with both cards for an Uber One membership. Amex Platinum cardholders receive $15 in Uber Cash each month, plus $35 in the month of December, for a total of up to $200 in Uber Cash each year. Amex Gold cardholders receive up to $120 in Uber Cash every year, distributed as up to $10 monthly. Also, for a limited time, Disney+ subscribers can get 6 months of Uber One for free.

Hot Tip: Chase cardholders may find Lyft to be a better option since they can earn 5x to 10x points per $1 spent on Lyft purchases through September 30, 2027. Lyft customers can also choose to earn either Alaska Mileage Plan or Hilton Honors points on Lyft rides, as well.

Final Thoughts

The Uber Rewards program is ending on August 31, 2022. After that day, you won’t be able to earn points or use any of the program’s perks. The last day to redeem any Uber Rewards points is October 31, 2022.  This is overall bad news for Uber customers. It’s never great when a company ditches its rewards program in favor of a paid membership option, especially when customers are given very little notice.
