The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, one of the best credit cards on the market, has an improved welcome bonus offer:

  • Earn 75,000 miles after spending $4,000 within the first 3 months of account opening, plus receive a one-time $250 Capital One Travel credit in your first cardholder year – that’s equal to $1,000 in travel.

The latest welcome offer is separated into Capital One Miles and a travel credit, with the latter valid for 1 year. Given that Capital One Miles offer flexible redemptions, you might wonder how much value you can receive from this welcome offer.

Unsurprisingly, that all depends on how you redeem your rewards. In this post, we will walk you through some of the top redemption options so you can decide which is best for you.

Capital One Miles

New cardholders of the Capital One Venture card can enjoy the following benefits for a $95 annual fee (rates & fees):

  • Welcome bonus offer: Earn 75,000 miles after spending $4,000 within the first 3 months of account opening, plus receive a one-time $250 Capital One Travel credit in your first cardholder year – that’s equal to $1,000 in travel.
  • 5x miles on hotels, vacation rentals, and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel
  • 2x miles on all other purchases
  • Up to a $120 Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee credit
  • Access to Capital One Offers and Capital One transfer partners

But how much is this introductory welcome offer worth? Let’s break down some of your options.

1. Redeem for Cash-Back: $625

One option for redeeming 75,000 miles earned with the welcome bonus offer is cash-back or a statement credit to offset purchases made with your card. We don’t recommend this redemption option unless you need cash.

Capital One only offers a 0.5 cent per mile redemption value when you redeem your miles this way, making 75,000 Capital One miles worth just $375. Of course, the value of the $250 Capital One Travel credit wouldn’t be impacted here — making the total value you’d receive $625.

2. Redeem Through Capital One Travel: $1,000

Redeeming your Capital One miles through the Capital One Travel portal would be a much better option as your redemption value doubles, giving you a value of 1 cent per mile. Better yet, you’ll find plenty of options for purchasing through Capital One Travel, including flights, hotels, rental cars, and cruises.

This means your 75,000 Capital One miles would be worth $750 in Capital One Travel value. When combined with your $250 Capital One Travel credit, you’d receive a total value of $1,000 toward Capital One Travel purchases.

Hot Tip:

You can also redeem your Capital One miles to cover eligible travel purchases on your statement within 90 days at the same rate — without requiring the purchase to be made through Capital One Travel. Whether you’re booking airfare or train tickets, Capital One miles can be redeemed at a simple value of 1 cent per mile.

3. Redeem With Capital One Transfer Partners: $1,600+

However, the absolute best way to redeem Capital One miles is with Capital One transfer partners. You can book luxury experiences like first class and business class flights or 5-star hotel stays for a fraction of what they usually cost. This is why we value Capital One miles at 1.8 cents per mile.

You can transfer 70,000 Capital One miles to Qatar Airways Avios to book a one-way ticket between the U.S. and Doha in what many consider the world’s best business classQatar QSuites. If you were to pay cash, this ticket typically costs $10,000+, giving you a value of over 14 cents per mile.

Plus, you’ll still have the full $250 Capital One Travel credit, which you could use to book a hotel at your destination, a rental car, or something in between. Overall, this should make the combined value of the Capital One Venture card welcome offer well over $1,600, depending on how you redeem your miles.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, the value of the limited-time welcome bonus offer on the Capital One Venture card depends on how you redeem your points.

At the low end, you should get at least $625 if you redeem your miles for cash-back and use the Capital One Travel credit, though we really don’t recommend this option. Using your miles and 1-time credit through Capital One Travel could give you $1,000 in value, or upwards of $1,600+ if you use the Capital One transfer partners. The choice is yours!
