Just weeks after introducing Wyndham Rewards as a new transfer partner, Wells Fargo Rewards is expanding its roster again with a solid airline partner.

As of today, April 28, Cathay Pacific’s “Cathay” program, formerly known as Asia Miles, is the newest partner on the list, including a seamless 1:1 transfer ratio. Here’s why that matters for cardholders.

Cathay Pacific Cathay Is Wells Fargo’s 11th Transfer Partner

Wells Fargo may have been a bit late to introduce transfer partners to its rewards program, but it’s playing major catch-up now with the addition of Cathay Pacific “Cathay”.

Unlike other credit card programs, there’s no minimum transfer requirement for any of Wells Fargo’s partners. You can transfer just 1 Wells Fargo Rewards point over to Cathay Pacific, and the transaction is processed immediately.

“Our mission is to give customers greater flexibility in how they earn, redeem, and travel with their rewards,” Lisa Giordanella, head of Loyalty and Rewards at Wells Fargo, said in a press release. “Adding Cathay Pacific as our newest transfer partner expands our global travel reach and gives cardholders more ways to turn their points into meaningful experiences across Asia and beyond.”

When transfer partners launched in 2024, Wells Fargo’s lineup started out small with just a few programs. However, it’s recently expanded to a solid roster of nearly a dozen airline and hotel partners.

Even better, transfer ratios are favorable across the board, starting at 1:1, with some even offering 1:2, meaning you can double your points when transferring your Wells Fargo Rewards:

Hot Tip:

You’ll need the $0-annual-fee Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card or $95-annual-fee Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ Card to earn Wells Fargo Rewards points that can transfer to these airline and hotel partners.

How To Use Cathay Pacific Miles

Cathay Pacific‘s “Cathay” program is also a transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Capital One miles, and Citi ThankYou Rewards.

If you want to fly on any of Cathay Pacific’s routes to its Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) hub, loyalty program members can place a hold on award tickets for up to 48 hours while the transfer is in progress. (However, with Wells Fargo, that shouldn’t be an issue since points transfer instantly.)

For instance, you can book a flight from Los Angeles (LAX) to Hong Kong (HKG) in business class for just 88,000 miles or first class for 125,000 miles, plus a few hundred dollars in taxes and fees:

Beyond flights to Asia, the Hong Kong-based carrier is part of the Oneworld alliance. This opens the possibility of booking flights with American Airlines, British Airways, Finnair, and others.

As another example, you can book a British Airways business class flight from Washington, D.C. (IAD) to London (LHR) this summer for just 63,000 miles and around $200 in taxes and fees.

Final Thoughts

The addition of Cathay Pacific Cathay creates more opportunities to unlock strong value from your Wells Fargo Rewards points. Transfers are lightning fast, and as a member of the Oneworld alliance, you can redeem Cathay miles for flights on partner airlines — often at excellent value.

With American Express reducing its transfer rate to Cathay Pacific recently, it’s nice to get another 1:1 transfer option to Cathay.
