TSA PreCheck and CLEAR are game-changers for busy travelers, offering expedited screening perks at the airport.

But did you know there is a way to get both memberships simultaneously at a discounted cost? That’s right, you can enroll in TSA PreCheck Through CLEAR — for just the cost of CLEAR! The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and CLEAR are partners, as CLEAR is an approved TSA PreCheck enrollment provider.

Read below for our guide on getting a TSA PreCheck membership through CLEAR and enrolling in both programs.

What is TSA PreCheck?

TSA PreCheck is a Trusted Traveler Program of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and probably the program you’re most familiar with. (The other 4 include Global Entry, SENTRI, NEXUS, and FAST).

TSA PreCheck allows the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to expedite security screening for low-risk travelers. Travelers with TSA PreCheck are generally allowed to leave shoes, belts, and light jackets on and can keep their laptops and other electronics in their bags. More than 80 airlines participate in TSA PreCheck.

What is CLEAR?

CLEAR utilizes biometrics technology for expedited airport security. The service allows you to skip the regular TSA security and TSA PreCheck lines and instead use a dedicated CLEAR line. Like TSA PreCheck, CLEAR is a membership-based program with a yearly fee.

CLEAR is available at dozens of U.S. locations and is often quicker than the standard TSA PreCheck line.

Hot Tip:

You can also use your CLEAR Plus membership at eligible arenas and stadiums across the U.S.

How Save Money Getting TSA PreCheck Through CLEAR

As a TSA PreCheck enrollment provider, you can enroll in TSA PreCheck via CLEAR. But you can also save time — and a bit of money — by enrolling in both programs at the same time. Here’s how to enroll.

How To Enroll

To begin your enrollment, you’ll visit the TSA PreCheck through CLEAR website.

If you don’t already have an account, you can create one here, or you can sign in using your Department of Homeland Security (DHS) credentials.

On the next page, you’ll fill out the standard identifying details. Make sure you have a required document from List A (which includes an unexpired passport book) or B (such as a valid photo ID).

You’ll then fill out your contact details, including your email and phone number.

Next, you’ll fill out your mailing address. You must account for your residential history if you’ve been at your current residence for fewer than 5 years.

You’ll then fill out some information about your history, such as your criminal background and citizenship status.

Finally, you’ll be taken to a page with your CLEAR application ID, which you’ll need when you head to your enrollment location to complete your enrollment. You’ll also see a deadline that you must complete your enrollment by.

Once you’ve completed pre-enrollment, you’ll continue your application by visiting any CLEAR enrollment location, and a member of the program’s airport staff will assist you. You’ll need to bring your valid U.S. passport — or other accepted forms of ID — to finish enrollment.

You can use any of the following airports to complete your application:

Once approved, you will receive your Known Traveler Number (KTN) in 3 to 5 days. However, it can take up to 60 days in some cases. And that’s it — you can use either the TSA PreCheck line or the CLEAR line (if available).

You’ll pay a fee of $77.95 if enrolling for the first time or $68.95 to renew. The bundle will cost you $199 (after rebates) — 5 years of TSA PreCheck for $77.95 and 1 year of CLEAR Plus for $121.05.

Note that you’ll pay full price for CLEAR ($199) up front and will receive a rebate of $77.95 after completing both your CLEAR Plus enrollment and TSA PreCheck application within 7 days using the same email.

Your CLEAR Plus membership will renew after 1 year at a cost of $199 per year. Your TSA PreCheck membership will be valid for 5 years.

Bottom Line:

Your application isn’t an immediate entry into the program, and you’ll still need to meet the requirements of both programs. CLEAR and TSA PreCheck are open to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and lawful permanent residents. Enrolling in one program does not grant you automatic membership in the other.

Best Credit Cards for TSA PreCheck and CLEAR

Many premium credit cards offer statement credits that cover the cost of a TSA PreCheck, Global Entry, or CLEAR Plus membership. Some offer both TSA PreCheck or Global Entry credits in addition to CLEAR Plus credits.

Here’s a round-up of our favorite credit cards that offer these benefits:

Final Thoughts

TSA PreCheck and CLEAR Plus memberships are a must-have for any savvy traveler, and there are ways to bundle them to save money. Now that you’re familiar with enrolling in TSA PreCheck with CLEAR, visit the website to apply and head to an enrollment center to finish.
