Redemption Options that Rock

Membership Rewards Points are generally worth a penny a point when used for most redemptions. You can, however, increase that value when transferring points to partner airlines.

Here are the best options for using your Membership Rewards Points to gain a value of 1 cent per point or greater.

Transfer to Partner Airlines

Redeem for Travel

  • Redeem Membership Rewards Points for flights through American Express Travel at the rate of 1 cent per Membership Reward Point.

  • If you have a lot of extra Membership Rewards Points, you can easily donate to many different charities via the Members Give® program at the rate of 1 cent per point up to 500,000 points per year. The minimum donation is 1,000 points.

Gift Cards

  • Redemption values vary, so be sure to strive for nothing less than 1 cent per Membership Reward Point when redeeming your points for gift cards.

Other Redemption Options

There are several additional options for redeeming your Membership Rewards Points. However, the value you receive can be far less than 1 cent per point.

  • Transfer points to hotel partners
  • Statement credits
  • Purchases at Amazon or Best Buy
  • American Express Tickets
  • Shop with Membership Rewards Points

Realize the best value for your Membership Rewards Points by reading our best ways to redeem Amex points article.

Bottom Line: While there are numerous ways to redeem your Membership Rewards Points, you’ll want to strive to receive a value of at least 1 cent per point or better.

  1. Amex everyday balance transfer is capped at 5k no matter how high your credit line is. Or it’s 75% of your CL if less then the 5k BT limit.

    • Hi Joe. Thanks for the information. It’s a good reminder that balance transfer availability is tied to the credit limit. There are no specific limits listed in the rates and fees terms/conditions for the card but the maximum amount of the balance transfer allowed is stated there as such: “The eligible balance transfer amount will be i) less than your credit limit; ii) determined based on your creditworthiness and other factors including your account history with American Express; and
iii) provided to you after your application has been approved.” Thank you for taking the time to comment and for reading.
