Mexico’s flag carrier is adding daily flights between Miami (MIA) and Cancun (CUN), joining an already-crowded market flying between the 2 cities.

Here’s what you need to know about the route.

Daily Flights Begin on December 19

Aeromexico will fly daily between Miami and Cancun, according to Ishrion Aviation on X.

Flights will begin on December 19 and will be operated on the Boeing 737 MAX 8, which Aeromexico uses on its short- and medium-haul routes. The 737 MAX is a 3-cabin aircraft with 16 Clase Premier, 18 AM Plus, and 132 economy seats.

Flights do not appear to have been loaded on Aeromexico or Google Flights yet, so it’s unclear how much flights will cost. Additionally, we don’t see any award availability on Aeromexico Rewards or Delta SkyMiles. We will update this post when we know more.

Crowded Market From South Florida to Cancun

Cancun ranks among one of the most popular destinations in Latin America among U.S. travelers, and for good reason. With favorable weather, affordable flights and hotels, and close proximity to many American hubs, Cancun draws millions of tourists to its white-sand beaches yearly.

Aeromexico will join a handful of U.S. airlines already flying to Cancun.

Several airlines offer service from the Miami area (which includes nearby Fort Lauderdale) to Cancun. American Airlines operates several daily flights to Cancun from Miami, while JetBlue Airways offers flights from Fort Lauderdale. The low-cost Spirit Airlines also flies seasonally from Fort Lauderdale.

Additionally, 4 airlines — American, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, and United Airlines — fly nonstop from the U.S. to nearby Tulum (TQO).

Regardless of which airline you choose, flights to Cancun are usually dirt cheap. That’s true whether you’re paying cash or using points and miles. On average, cash prices can hover around $250 round-trip in economy.

Cancun represents one of the best options for booking economy tickets with points and miles. Here’s how much you can expect to pay if flying from Miami or Fort Lauderdale:

Hot Tip:

Final Thoughts

This is an interesting move for Aeromexico, especially considering several airlines are already established on the route.

Still, the new route is ideal for Aeromexico as Cancun is Mexico’s second-busiest airport (after Mexico City). It only makes sense that Mexico’s flagship airline would offer service between the 2 cities.
