Welcome to this week’s airline news roundup. We’ll be covering more than ever from now on, albeit in more bitesize chunks so you get the news you need to know quicker.

We’ve got news about new Delta planes and Delta One seats, information on Newark’s AirTrain construction, extra Mardi Gras flights from Spirit, and more.

With that, let’s get started.

Delta Orders Dreamliners for the First Time

Delta has confirmed a historic order of 30 Boeing 787-10 aircraft. When the first aircraft are delivered in 2031, it will be the first time a Delta livery has ever been on a Dreamliner aircraft. Not only are the jets quieter and more fuel efficient, but their increased width and length means Delta will have space to add more premium seats, included Delta’s latest Delta One Suites in business class.

The jets will gradually replace the aging Boeing 767 aircraft that operate the majority of Delta’s flights across the Atlantic and down to South America.

Delta’s Airbus A350-1000s Will Feature a New Delta One Busines Class

We’re about a year out from the delivery of Delta’s first Airbus A350-1000, and a new rendering shows a completely reimagined Delta One seat.

Delta has opted for the VantageNOVA seats by Thompson Aero and is alleged to be the launch customer for this product.

United’s Increased Investing in Brazil’s Azul Put On Hold

United‘s plans to increase its stake in Brazilian airline Azul, from 2% to 8%, has been paused by the Brazil’s antitrust authority. The news comes just 2 weeks after the investment was initially given the green light.

On the grounds that American Airlines has a 5% stake in Brazilian airline GOL and Delta owns 20% of Latin America’s largest airline LATAM, I’m curious to know why United’s request for an increased stake in Azul is in question.

Newark’s AirTrain Closure

Newark (EWR) Airport’s AirTrain is currently undergoing a $3.5 billion transformation. A consequence of the construction is significant distruption to services for almost half of 2026 during 2 separate periods. From January 15 until May 2, and from September 8 until October 30, there’ll be no AirTrain from the Airport Train Station.

Passengers traveling to Newark airport via NJ Transit or Amtrak services will instead have to take a replacement bus service to join the AirTrain. Services will operate every 4-5 minutes and shuttle passengers first to Terminal B, then to Terminal C, followed by Terminal A for Rental Cars, Terminal A, and the P4 station and parking lots.

Spirit Adds Mardi Gras Flights to New Orleans

Spirit is adding more flights to New Orleans (MSY) between February 12 and 19 to facilitate travel to the city’s Mardi Gras celebrations. During this time, flights from Charlotte (CLT) and Miami (MIA) to New Orleans will temporarily return, and flights from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Orlando (MCO) will increase to 3x daily.

American Airlines Adds New Inflight Food and Beverage Options

From January 14, American’s premium economy and main cabin passengers have been enjoying new main course dishes on select long-haul international routes. Examples of new aditions include vegetable yakiniku noodles and chimichurri chicken.

New buy-on-board dishes will also be available from February 1 on select domestic flights and some routes to Canada, the Caribbean, and Mexico. American spotlights a chicken salad and Boursin cheese wrap as a top choice.

And from the bar cart, alcohol-free Free Wave Hazy IPA and Q Margarita Mix will be available to passengers from February 1.

LATAM Increases Flights From Miami to Buenos Aires

LATAM is increasing the number of weekly flights between Buenos Aires and Miami from 7 to 10. This means there’s now a day and night option in both directions.

The increase in flights should hopefully mean more redemption possibilities for premium passengers looking to fly nonstop between the 2 cities. The seat also appears as “Individual Suite” in Google Flights, which suggests this is LATAM’s excellent new business class.

JetBlue and JSX Breaking Up

JetBlue emailed passengers late Friday night saying it won’t be possible to earn TrueBlue points on JSX flights after February 28, 2026.

Final Thoughts

Standouts from this week are Delta’s future Dreamliner delivery and upcoming new Delta One seats on its Airbus A350-1000s coming next year. And if you’re traveling to Newark during the AirTrain closure dates, it might be worth adding buffer time to your journey.
