One of our favorite transfer bonuses of the year is back. For a limited time, American Express Membership Rewards® cardholders can transfer points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club with a 30% bonus.

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club is one of our favorite loyalty programs thanks to excellent redemption opportunities. After all, where else can you book a one-way flight between the U.S. and London for as few as 6,000 points?

With this 30% transfer bonus, those already-low award rates become even more attractive, giving you the chance to stretch your Amex Membership Rewards points further. Let’s take a closer look at the key details and some of the best ways to maximize this transfer bonus promotion.

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Transfer Bonus Details

Starting today, November 2, until Monday, November 30, eligible American Express Membership Rewards cardholders can take advantage of a 30% transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.

Normally, Membership Rewards points transfer to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club at a 1:1 ratio. With this promotion, cardholders get 1,300 Virgin Points for every 1,000 points they transfer.

Remember that Membership Rewards cards are separate from any American Express cards with airlines or hotels. The following cards are eligible for this promotion:

Hot Tip:

Keep track of the current transfer bonus promotions across all major credit card programs with our transfer partner tool calculator. It’ll even do the math for you, so you can quickly see how many points you’ll need to transfer.

Best Ways To Maximize the 30% Transfer Bonus to Flying Club

This transfer bonus comes at an excellent time, whether you’re planning last-minute holiday trips or getting a head start on your 2027 travels. Here are some of the best ways to redeem Virgin Points through Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, along with the standard award rates and what you’ll need to effectively transfer with the 30% bonus.

Note that taxes, fees, and charges apply in addition to the points price for reward flights. These vary depending on factors such as your destination and travel dates, and the applicable amount is shown at the time of booking.

1. Book Round-Trip Flights to London From 9K Points

Virgin Atlantic is a U.K.-based airline that operates convenient nonstop routes to its London hub from many U.S. airports. This includes Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Las Vegas (LAS), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), New York (JFK), Orlando (MCO), San Francisco (SFO), Seattle (SEA), Tampa (TPA), and Washington, D.C. (IAD).

From Northeast airports like New York and Boston, one-way saver reward flights can be booked from 6,000 Virgin Points, plus taxes and fees. At that rate, a round-trip flight can cost as few as 12,000 points. But with the 30% transfer bonus, the math gets even sweeter, dropping to 5,000 points for a one-way flight or 9,000 points for a round-trip ticket (given transfers must be in 1,000-point increments).

Here are the other saver reward rates in economy, premium economy, and business class, available to and from U.S. airports, which already offer solid value on their own (Source: Virgin Atlantic):

Flying Virgin Atlantic can be a great way to get to London, which is a convenient starting point if you plan to visit other destinations in Europe — and beyond.

Hot Tip:

Keep in mind that all referenced point prices include applicable taxes, fees, and charges, in addition to the Virgin Points required.

2. Book Domestic Delta Flights From 6K Points

Virgin Atlantic officially joined SkyTeam in 2023, so it’s possible to earn and redeem points across multiple partner airlines. For travelers who aren’t booking international trips, the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club program provides plenty of promise for domestic flights.

The rates can be incredibly attractive if you can find award availability, often pricing lower than what Delta SkyMiles charges for the same flights (Source: Virgin Atlantic):

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club’s rates are based on flight distance, so many short hops can fall under that 500-mile band. Meanwhile, a transcontinental flight would stretch closer to 2,500 miles, whereas a flight from the East Coast to Hawaii would be nearly 5,000 miles.

Domestic one-way award flights also generally come with just $6 in taxes and fees at checkout.

3. Book ANA Business or First Class to Tokyo From 45K Miles

One of the best sweet spots with Virgin Atlantic Flying Club is booking premium cabin awards with ANA. Virgin Atlantic and ANA are nonalliance partners, but Flying Club offers extraordinary rates.

Normally, one-way flights in ANA business class start at 52,500 points from the West Coast and 60,000 points from the East Coast. ANA first class starts at 72,500 points from the West Coast and 85,000 points from the East Coast (Source: Virgin Atlantic).

With the 30% transfer bonus, those one-way rates get even better. If you can find award availability, you’ll pay the following rates, plus taxes and fees, which can run you a few hundred dollars:

  • Honolulu (HNL) to Tokyo (HND): 29,000 points in business class and 45,000 in first class, plus taxes and fees
  • San Francisco (SFO) to Tokyo (HND): 40,000 points in business class and 56,000 in first class, plus taxes and fees
  • New York (JFK) to Tokyo (HND): 47,000 points in business class and 66,000 in first class, plus taxes and fees

4. Book a Reward Night at Virgin Hotels From 22.5K Points

If you prefer using your points for a place to stay on vacation, Virgin Hotels is a fun option with properties in 7 destinations: Dallas, Edinburgh, Las Vegas, London, Nashville, New Orleans, and New York. These hotels are known for their prime locations, lively dining and bars, yet with a boutique feel.

While reward nights technically must be booked through Virgin Red, you can link your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club account to use points seamlessly between the 2 programs.

Reward nights normally start at 27,500 Virgin Points, depending on the property and date. With the current 30% Amex transfer bonus, you can book nights for even less. Keep in mind that U.S. hotels have taxes, fees, and charges that are payable and will be displayed at the time of booking.

5. Book a Virgin Voyages Cruise From 193K Points

Virgin Voyages is an adults-only cruise line that offers a modern take on cruising, with itineraries throughout the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and beyond. Gratuities are payable directly to Virgin Voyages ($20 per sailor per night if you pre-pay or $22 per sailor per night if you pay onboard). Best of all, you can book available dates with points through the Virgin Red loyalty program.

With the current 30% transfer bonus, it’s possible to book a Virgin Voyages cruise for 193,000 Amex Membership Rewards points. This redemption method is a unique way to turn your points into an entire vacation, rather than just for a flight or hotel stay.

Hot Tip:

Virgin Red offers dozens of quirky redemption options, including for one-of-a-kind experiences. For example, 750,000 points, plus £328.35 in taxes, fees and charges, can unlock a 3-night stay on Richard Branson’s private island in the Caribbean, so this transfer bonus can make those kinds of experiences cheaper with points, too.

Final Thoughts

Transfer bonuses make for a great time to transfer your points, and this current promotion boosts the standard 1:1 rate to 1:1.3 for a few weeks only. Cardholders can save a ton of points in the process just by taking advantage of this promotion.

Just don’t wait too long: The 30% bonus is only available through the end of November.
