With up to 4x earnings, annual statement credits, and travel and shopping protections and benefits, the American Express® Business Gold Card is one of our favorite business cards.

If you weren’t targeted for the massive 200,000-point welcome bonus offer we recently uncovered, you might want to check again to see if you’ve been targeted for a 175,000-point offer. A welcome offer this large can go a long way in extracting value from the card’s $375 annual fee (rates & fees).

We’ll give you a step-by-step guide to uncovering your best available offer on the Amex Business Gold card.

Targeted offers are discussed in the article below. Please note that these offers are not available to all applicants. Any information related to targeted offers has been collected independently and has not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Amex Business Gold Card Welcome Bonus Offer and How To Find It

The current public welcome bonus offer for the Amex Business Gold card is:

  • ELEVATED OFFER: Earn 100,000 points after you spend $15,000 on eligible purchases within the first 3 months.

The Upgraded Points team has discovered that some applicants may be targeted for up to 175,000 bonus points. This offer has the exact same minimum spend requirement but rewards cardholders with 75% more points.

We value Membership Rewards points at 2.2 cents apiece, making the current offer worth around $2,200. A 175,000-point bonus can be worth nearly $4,000!

Option 1: Check on Amex Directly (Try This First)

We recommend starting directly on the American Express website to see if you’re eligible for the highest possible offer.

Our team was targeted with a 175,000-point offer, though you may be eligible for up to 200,000 points!

Option 2: Check the CardMatch Tool

If you’re not targeted with an increased offer on Amex’s website, see what you are matched with via the CardMatch tool.

Checking for elevated offers via CardMatch won’t impact your credit score, as the site uses a soft credit check to determine your eligibility.

Option 3: Targeted Email Offers

If you’re an existing American Express cardholder, ensure that Amex can reach you directly with targeted offers by making sure you’ve opted in to receive marketing emails.

Go to your account’s Account Services tab, then Alerts and Communications, then Marketing Email Preferences. Check the box marked Offers so that you can be eligible for targeted emails.

Option 4: Amex Business Gold Referral Offers

If you have a friend or family member with an American Express card (any card!), they can refer you to a new card using the refer-a-friend program.

If you’d like to share your own link, start at the refer-a-friend page on the Amex website and select the card you’d like to send a referral for. Amex will then indicate the number of points you’ll earn for the referral and the number of welcome bonus offer points your friend will earn if approved. You can email the link directly from the site or copy a link to share as you wish. The person applying must use your direct link for you both to receive the indicated points.

Benefits of the Amex Business Gold Card

The Amex Business Gold card earns 4x Membership Rewards points on the top 2 categories in which your business spends the most every month (up to $150,000 in combined purchases every calendar year; 1x thereafter), including:

  • Transit purchases, including trains, taxicabs, rideshare services, ferries, tolls, parking, buses, and subways
  • U.S. purchases made from electronic goods retailers and software & cloud system providers
  • Monthly wireless telephone service charges made directly from a wireless telephone service provider in the U.S.
  • U.S. purchases at gas stations
  • U.S. purchases at restaurants, including takeout and delivery
  • Purchases at U.S. media providers for advertising in select media (online, TV, radio)

It also earns 3x points on flights and prepaid hotels booked on AmexTravel.com and 1x points on all other eligible purchases.

The card also includes statement credits of up to $240 annually for eligible purchases at FedEx, Grubhub, and office supply stores and up to $155 annually for a monthly Walmart+ membership (enrollment required).

How To Maximize Membership Rewards Points

If you were to maximize the welcome bonus offer by completing the minimum spending requirements solely with 4x-qualifying purchases, you’d be sitting on a massive stockpile of 235,000 American Express Membership Rewards points.

Here are a few ideas on how to extract value from these points:

Fly Lufthansa Business Class to Germany for 120,000 Points

When booking Lufthansa business class with points, we recommend using Air Canada Aeroplan points. A round-trip Lufthansa business class award ticket from the U.S. to Germany costs 120,000 Aeroplan points plus taxes and fees. You can even check out Lufthansa’s new Allegris business class on select flights to and from Munich (MUC).

Stay 5 Nights at Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, for 220,000 Points

Award nights at Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, are as low as 110,000 Hilton Honors points per night, meaning you could spend 5 nights in Maui, Hawaii, for around 550,000 Hilton Honors points. Because American Express is a 1:2 transfer partner of Hilton Honors, you’d need to transfer 275,000 Amex Membership Rewards points for this special vacation.

However, if you’re a Hilton Honors elite member, you can utilize Hilton’s fifth-night free benefit, meaning you’d only need 220,000 points for this redemption! Better yet, if you take advantage of transferring your points when there is a transfer bonus from Amex to Hilton, you’d need even fewer points!

Hot Tip:

Get creative with ideas from our guide to the best ways to redeem your Amex Membership Rewards points.

Final Thoughts

If you weren’t targeted for the recent 200,000-point welcome bonus offer on the Amex Business Gold card, you might be targeted with a tempting 175,000-point offer! Both are phenomenal increased offers for this powerhouse of a business card.

Utilize the steps in our guide to ensure you’re finding the best offer you’re eligible for, whether that is directly through American Express, through the CardMatch tool, or through targeted emails or referral offers.
