It can be difficult to find reasonably-priced award flights to Oceania, especially if you want to fly outside the low season.
Fortunately for those who are willing to fly economy — and last minute — United has announced a fare sale allowing you to head overseas for less than 40,000 miles one-way.
Here are the details about these award flights:
- Class: Economy
- Routes: San Francisco (SFO), Houston (IAH), and Los Angeles (LAX) to Sydney (SYD), Melbourne (MEL), Brisbane (BNE), Auckland (AKL), Christchurch (CHC), and Tahiti (PPT)
- Dates: February to March 2024
- Rates: As few as 37,5000 miles one-way
Although United is advertising this as a round-trip sale, you can still score the discounted fares even when flying one-way, which is ideal if you’re looking to fly business class in one direction and just need to book the second leg of your journey.
United usually averages around 50,000 miles one-way for these flights, so booking a round-trip ticket for just 75,000 miles is a pretty good deal.
The easiest way to search for availability is by using the calendar function on United’s website, which will show you all of the dates with saver-level awards.
Note that you’ll need to have the ability to fly out quickly as the fare sale is only valid for flights booked and flown before March 31, 2024.
Best Ways to Book
This fare sale is exclusive to United, so you aren’t going to see these discounted rates with other airlines. Turkish Airlines, for example, is still going to charge you 52,500 miles one-way for these flights.
This means you’ll want to complete your booking via United’s website. If you don’t have enough United miles for your ticket, you can always quickly build your balance by transferring over from Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio.
You’ll also want to be sure you’re paying the taxes and fees with the right credit card. The Chase Sapphire Reserve®, for instance, will earn you 3x Chase points on those fees. More than this, however, is the fact that paying with this card makes you eligible for the excellent complimentary travel insurance it provides. This includes trip delay reimbursement, lost luggage, and trip cancellation insurance.Hot Tip:

United is offering a last-minute fare sale on economy class flights to New Zealand, Tahiti, and Australia.
With the ability to book a one-way flight from 37,500 miles or round-trip from 75,000 miles, you’ll be saving about 25% on your ticket. This sale is only valid on flights booked and flown before March 31, 2024, so if you’re interested … book now!
