Interested in warmth, wine, and sunshine? You’re in luck, because we’ve found swathes of dates to the Portuguese region of Madeira, where all of life’s simplest pleasures are in great supply.

It isn’t often we find lie-flat options to Madeira for under $2,000, which is why we jumped on writing this article. If you’re interested, book now!

Fare Details

You’ll find both the cheapest rates and the best seats when departing from Newark (EWR) or New York (JFK). These flights will be operated by TAP Air Portugal, whose newer business class products offer direct aisle access to everyone.

Otherwise, those departing from Boston (BOS) will be aboard Azores Airlines. While these business class seats are subpar, it’s just a quick 40-minute layover in Ponta Delgado (PDL).

  • Class: Business
  • Routes: Newark (EWR), New York (JFK), and Boston (BOS) to Madeira (FNC)
  • Dates: June to December 2023
  • Rates: As low as $1,628 round-trip

We found widespread availability starting in July. Although August is missing deals, the entire rest of 2023 is open, so you’ll have your pick of dates. Here’s an example of a flight from Newark (EWR) to Madeira (FNC) in late November.

Boston (BOS) has equally tempting discounts, though again, you’ll be flying on Azores Airlines should you wish to depart from here.

Because these aren’t lie-flat options, it may be worth considering a position over to New York from Boston for a more comfortable experience.

Best Ways to Book

You can find these flights using Google Flights, which will give you either the option to book directly or via a third-party service. Generally, you’ll find pricing to be $50 or so less when using an online travel agency (OTA). However, you’ll want to be aware that travel agencies aren’t subject to the same DOT travel regulations as airlines, which can be a hassle if you need to cancel your flight.

If choosing to book direct, consider a card such as The Platinum Card® from American Express, which will give you 5x Membership Rewards per $1 spent on airfare booked directly with the airline or via AmexTravel.com (up to $500,000 per year).

Otherwise, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® will give you an uncapped 3x Ultimate Rewards per $1 spent on all travel, no matter how you book your flight.

Final Thoughts

This is a great deal from both TAP Air Portugal and Azores Airlines to the sunny climes of Madeira. Enjoy a more comfortable journey for less than $1,700 round-trip in business class — what more can you ask for?
