Delta Air Lines will launch its first-ever nonstop flight between its Salt Lake City (SLC) hub and South America. The airline announced today that it would begin flights to Lima (LIM) during the winter holiday season.

Here’s what you need to know.

Salt Lake City Gets First South American Route

Delta Air Lines will begin a daily, nonstop flight from Salt Lake City (SLC) to Lima (LIM) between December 4, 2025, and January 25, 2026.

Delta will fly its widebody Boeing 767-300ER on the route. This aircraft is equipped with 4 classes of service: Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort, and Delta Main.

Notably, this will be Delta’s first nonstop route to South America from Salt Lake City, a major hub for the airline. This route appears to be a strategic move for Delta, as it noted that the route would be a “faster, more convenient way” to connect to other South American destinations such as Buenos Aires (EZE) and São Paulo (GRU).

“This new route is a significant milestone for Delta and our customers in Salt Lake City and throughout the Mountain West,” said Paul Baldoni, senior vice president of network planning.

How To Book

If you’re interested in checking out Delta’s new Salt Lake City-to-Lima route, you’ll have to wait a bit longer. Unfortunately, flights don’t appear to be bookable yet on Delta’s website with cash or with Delta SkyMiles.

However, you’ll want to have some SkyMiles in your account when the route becomes available. If you’re running low on miles, here are some ways to earn lots of Delta SkyMiles:

Hot Tip:

As Delta is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, you’ll be able to book this route (and others) through partners such as Air France-KLM Flying Blue and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.

Final Thoughts

Delta is expanding at one of its biggest hubs with a new route connecting Salt Lake City with Lima. Not only is it the first South American route from SLC, but it will also offer 1-stop connections to other destinations in South America, such as Argentina, Brazil, and Chile. While the route operates for only several weeks, we hope it’s successful and leads to expanded service in the future!
