Hyatt is expanding its portfolio in Europe and recently announced plans for a Thompson hotel in Vienna, Austria.
There are a lot of exciting details, so let’s dive right in!
Hyatt Announces Plan for Thompson Vienna
Hyatt has announced that it has entered into an agreement for the Thompson Vienna, located in Austria’s capital city. Thompson Hotels are some of the most luxurious in Hyatt’s portfolio and feature a mid-century aesthetic.
The 148-room hotel will be located on Mariahilferstrasse (Mariahilfer Street) and is expected to take “a modern, edgy design.”
The property is expected to open in late 2024.
Hyatt released some concept images of the property, including a rendering (below) of what a Deluxe Suite is expected to look like.
“Offering a refined residential feel, Thompson Vienna will attract visitors and locals alike with a dynamic social scene, all within the unprecedented development that will integrate high-end shopping, dining, entertainment, fashion and accommodations within one destination,” Felicity Black-Roberts, Hyatt’s vice president for development in Europe, said in a statement.
Right now, it’s unclear what category Thompson Vienna will be in, but we know it will participate in World of Hyatt, which means travelers should be able to earn and redeem World of Hyatt points at the property.
With the announcement of Thompson Vienna, Hyatt is also expanding that brand’s footprint in Europe. The hotel recently announced plans for Thompson’s debut in Spain with Thompson Madrid, which is now accepting reservations for September 1, 2022, and beyond.
Final Thoughts
The announcement of Thompson Hotels arriving in Vienna is excellent news for Hyatt loyalists looking for more options to earn and redeem their points in Europe. Thompson Hotels is one of Hyatt’s more exclusive brands, so the new hotel in Vienna should offer travelers more variety when it opens in 2024.
