I’ve carried at least 1 American Express card in my wallet for almost a decade, and I don’t expect that to change anytime soon. With a wide range of credit cards from the Amex Membership Rewards program and partnerships with brands like Hilton and Delta, earning rewards has never been easier.

However, there is one perk in particular that has caught my attention over the past year. While it hasn’t necessarily helped me earn more points, it has saved me an unexpected amount of money, only enhancing the value I get from my credit cards.

How To Save Money With Amex Offers

Almost every bank offers their cardholders the opportunity to save money at participating retailers. In the case of American Express, the Amex Offers program is exclusively available to those who hold the issuer’s cards.

You can view your updated roster of deals (about 100 per card!) on the American Express app (iOS, Android) or website when logged into your account. Think of Amex Offers as the modern-day coupon, as they’re all available digitally. If you see an Amex Offer that sparks your interest, simply hit Add to Card and pay with that card to see your savings applied.

Amex Offers

Upon meeting the terms of the specific offer — and read the fine print to make sure your purchase qualifies — you should receive a statement credit of that amount posted to your account. Although American Express says it can take “up to 90 days after the end of the offer period” to receive the statement credit, I’ve never had to wait longer than a few business days.

There are, in fact, a few Amex Offers that offer bonus points and miles in lieu of cash-back savings. For instance, you could earn 1 additional Membership Rewards point per $1 spent at Dell.com, with a maximum of 25,000 points, if the purchase is made by the end of 2024. If I activated this offer on The Platinum Card® from American Express, I would earn 2 Membership Rewards points at Dell.com (up to 25,000 points) since the card normally earns 1 point per dollar on non-bonus purchases.

However, the vast majority of Amex Offers yield cash-back savings in the form of a statement credit. Since most American Express cards charge an annual fee, leveraging Amex Offers is just one of the many ways to earn long-term value in your wallet.

There isn’t any harm in adding multiple Amex Offers to your card, even if you probably won’t get around to using them. In fact, enrolling in more Amex Offers can help you unlock even more promotions. That said, you can only add 1 Amex Offer from a retailer even if you’ve got multiple Amex cards, so choose wisely to maximize your points-earning potential.

Hot Tip:

You can also earn bonus points and miles on your purchase with a shopping portal aggregator like CashBackMonitor. For example, Rakuten is offering up to 5% cash-back on Dell, adding to your Amex Offer savings and points earned with your credit card.

Best Amex Offers I’ve Used

It wasn’t until recently that I took a closer look at the Amex Offers that were in rotation. In fact, Amex has increased annual fees on several cards in my wallet over the past year, including the American Express® Gold Card ($325 annual fee – rates & fees) and the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card* ($550 annual fee).

*All information about Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card has been collected independently by Upgraded Points.

If I’m going to be paying hundreds of dollars in annual fees, maximizing any opportunity to save money is paramount. This is one of the key decision making factors as I contemplate keeping (or canceling) these very cards in my wallet.

By visiting the Savings tab, you can see the list of Amex Offers that you have successfully used. If you have multiple Amex cards, like I do, you need to click on each individual card to see the amount saved.

  • Get $5 back when spending $15 or more with Uber (up to 5 times for a maximum savings of $25).

  • Get $30 back when spending $150 or more at Turo.

Over half of these Amex Offers have appeared on my trusty Amex Platinum card, which offers thousands of dollars in value from the generous welcome bonus offer to benefits and perks.

Final Thoughts

I love Amex Offers, and I’ve saved nearly $700 over the past year by being more mindful about enrolling in them. Over time, Amex Offers can sneakily help you save money, especially if they align with purchases you were already going to make.

I would even go as far to argue that Amex Offers give Chase Offers, Capital One Offers, or Citi Merchant Offers, a run for their money. American Express always provides the best retailers and huge opportunities to save, particularly when it comes to travel.
