One of the most anticipated resorts in Latin America just got an opening date. The Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique will officially open for guests on May 1, 2025.

Ahead of its opening next spring, here’s everything you need to know about the resort, plus how to book.

Waldorf Astoria Coming to Costa Rica

Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique has a mix of rooms, suites, and villas. All room choices include a personal concierge and have floor-to-ceiling windows and large, private terraces.

Amenities include a kids and teens club, event spaces, a spa, a fitness center, a multi-level pool, and unobstructed beach access. The resort has several restaurants and bars, including a signature restaurant and a pool bar.

The resort is just 17 miles from Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR), which serves Liberia and receives flights from airlines as wide-ranging as Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, and United Airlines.

Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria is the latest ultra-luxe brand to plant its flag in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. Other luxury resorts in the region include the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort, Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo, and JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa.

Booking Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique

The Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique is accepting reservations for stays after May 1, 2025.

The resort participates in the Hilton Honors program, which means you can earn and redeem Hilton Honors points during your stay. And you’ll definitely want to spend your points here. Award nights here start at 120,000 Hilton Honors points per night, which isn’t a terrible price for a Waldorf Astoria resort.

In comparison, cash rates start at more than $1,300 per night on the low end and average nearly $1,600 nightly, so you’ll get above-average value for your Hilton points. However, the resort is also offering a promotion where you’ll get 20% off stays of 5+ nights, plus a $500 resort credit (or $1,000 credit if staying in a suite).

Given the exorbitant cash prices, we recommend booking your stay with points. Fortunately, it’s extremely easy to earn Hilton Honors points. The hotel chain offers several co-branded credit cards, which come with big welcome bonuses and elite status.

Hot Tip:

If you’re running low on points, you can top up your Hilton balance by transferring points from American Express and Bilt Rewards, by taking a Lyft ride, or dining out with Hilton Honors Dining.

Final Thoughts

This is fantastic news from Hilton, which is opening its first Waldorf Astoria resort in Costa Rica in May. While Costa Rica is home to some of the best resorts in the region, Hilton Honors loyalists will have a new option to earn and redeem their points. Luckily, award rates aren’t too high if you have a ton of Hilton points or points you can transfer into the program.
