You’ve worked hard to accumulate those hotel loyalty program points, and now it’s time to redeem those rewards for free hotel nights. It sounds like an easy task to select your preferred dates, then use your points to book your stay.

However, finding the best value for your rewards can be challenging. The number of points required for your dates may exceed what you can afford to pay, or award nights might not be available.

Fortunately, hotel loyalty programs have stepped up their game and provide flexible date calendars that you can use to search for the best possible time to use your rewards, maximizing the value you receive.

In today’s article, we’ll share how to use these tools to find the best possible hotel award night rates for some of the most popular hotel loyalty programs.

Let’s start our search for great award-night deals with Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, World of Hyatt, and IHG.

What Are Flexible Date Calendars?

When you attempt to book a hotel night via the hotel’s website (or app), you enter your destination and dates, select that you’re using points or default to cash rates, and watch the results populate.

Flexible date calendars enable you to view the rate for other possible dates and can also allow you to filter the results by brand, cost, location, and more.

This tool can be invaluable for finding the best award night rates (and cash rates), enabling you to receive the best value for your rewards.

Here’s how to uncover the best award rates using hotel program flexible date calendars.

Marriott Bonvoy

If your brand of choice is Marriott, you’re familiar with the challenges of finding affordable award space. The flexible date calendar on the Marriott website can make the process easier, and you may even find a hidden gem.

Begin your search at Marriott.com by inserting your destination, dates, and number of guests and choosing to use points and awards. Once your search results are populated, you can sort them by city, rewards points, brand, guest rating, and number of reviews. If you have the flexibility, think broadly, perhaps by an entire country.

In this search example, we’ve selected Spain for a 5-night stay in November and sorted the results by the lowest number of points for a 5-night stay. Marriott Bonvoy members receive a fifth night free when booking award nights, so longer stays are an excellent opportunity to take advantage of this benefit.

Plus, every award night counts toward achieving Marriott Bonvoy elite status.

Marriott Bonvoy Sort by Points
You can sort the results by the number of reward points required for your stay. Image Credit: Marriott

You can add filters to the results by clicking on the All Filters icon. Filters enable you to limit the search to hotels within a specific point range. For example, I’ve chosen to spend no more than 80,000 points for my 5-night stay. If you have free night certificates to utilize, filtering can help you find award nights that fit the maximum point value of your certificate.

Marriott Bonvoy Filter by Points
Filtering your search can help you limit the results to those you can afford. Image Credit: Marriott

Filters enable you to narrow down the results to properties that match your preferences. For example, you can add filters that only show certain brands, hotels with airport shuttles, rates that include taxes and fees, hotels in specific cities, and more.

Once you’ve selected a specific property, you can use the flexible rate calendar to pinpoint the best rates. Click on the box with the dates you’ve chosen and change the option to I’m flexible. Then, select a month to start your calendar search. I selected November for my 5-night stay in Spain.

Marriott Bonvoy Flexible Dates
If you’re flexible, the calendar can help you find the best rate. Image Credit: Marriott

Once the calendar is populated, you can scroll through the months until you find a rate you like. November rates were higher than those in September, and in this scenario, I was able to find a 5-night stay for 42,500 Marriott Bonvoy points!.

If you have minimum flexibility, the flexible date calendar could still help you find a stay that may be up to 2 days different than what you’d planned. You can also try a property close by and use the same process.

The website does not always work correctly. If you don’t see all the sorting options, try again later.

The Marriott Bonvoy flexible date calendar is a fun and functional tool for finding a property that fits your budget and discovering new options.

Hilton Honors

Hilton has some grand properties worldwide, but also offers lodging for those on a budget. Regardless of the size of your Hilton Honors loyalty points stash, you’ll want to receive good value at redemption time. Fortunately, Hilton Honors has a flexible rate calendar that can help you do that.

As with any hotel award booking search, start by adding your destination, dates, and number of guests, and indicate you’ll be using points. For a Hilton website search, a map will display the location of each property and the number of points required for your search dates.

While prices are displayed per night, Hilton is known for only showing the cost of the first night; subsequent nights could require more points. You must click through to checkout to see the actual total price.

Once the results are populated, you can narrow your search using filters.

Hilton Honors allows you to filter the results by the maximum number of points you wish to spend per night, ratings, hotel amenities, by brand, and more. These filters can help you narrow down the number of properties that fit your priorities.

Hilton Honors Booking Filters
Adding filters can help you narrow the list of properties to those that match your priorities. Image Credit: Hilton

Once you’ve applied the appropriate filters, update your list, select a property, and continue to the price calendar. To bring up the calendar, edit your original search and click on the dates you initially selected. You’ll see small calendars (see below).

Below these calendars is the Shop by Price option. Clicking on that button will take you to the flexible rate calendar.

Hilton Honors Shop by Price
The shop-by-price calendar can be accessed by clicking on the dates you initially selected.

Once you’re on the rate calendar, you can view your stay’s availability and nightly price. The calendar can be beneficial for finding dates with standard room rates that can be secured with free night certificates. These certificates can not be used for premium-room rewards nights.

Hilton Honors also offers its elite members a fifth night free when booking award nights. For example, if a hotel is 60,000 points per night, you’d pay 240,000 for a 5-night stay (4 x 60,000) versus the normal 300,000 points (5 x 60,000) for the 5-night stay.

You can easily scroll through the months to find the best rates. Once you’ve found a rate you like for your check-in dates, you can proceed with booking your reservation.

Cards That Pair Well With Hilton Loyalists

You receive complimentary elite status, elevated earnings, and the ability to book free hotel nights with the points you’ve earned. World of Hyatt

World of Hyatt has recently enhanced its flexible calendar search. While it still has shortcomings, you can ultimately find the desired results.

Start at hyatt.com by inserting your destination and dates and selecting the option to use points. In this example, I selected a visit to southern Spain for a few nights in June or July 2026 and then pinpointed the southern region near Málaga. The map can be temperamental and challenging to use, but stick with it until you’ve narrowed in on the area of interest.

Once the results are shown, you can narrow your search by clicking on the filters button. World of Hyatt allows you to filter by the number of points you want to spend, hotel amenities, guest experience, brand, and more.

Filtering can help narrow down the list of properties to those that best fit your priorities. Image Credit: Hyatt

The results of this search indicate that only 1 property is available for the chosen dates, and it’s an all-inclusive resort, costing 18,000 World of Hyatt points per night.

Use the filter to limit your search to your maximum budget per night. Image Credit: Hyatt

The hotel looks great, but there may be a way to save points by using the flexible calendar. Once the hotel is selected from the results list, you can access the points calendar to review the per-night rates by date.

World of Hyatt Hotel Search Points Calendar
You can access the points calendar once you’ve selected a property to view. Image Credit: Hyatt

The points calendar for July indicates that every night is 18,000 points per night, and some nights are not available. However, when I reviewed the June calendar, I found that there are award nights available for 15,000 points per night. That’s a total savings of 9,000 World of Hyatt points for the stay.

With those savings, perhaps a 4-night stay would be more appropriate than a 3-night stay.

The World of Hyatt price calendar can be a great tool for saving points when your dates are flexible, even by just a couple of days.

A Card That Pairs Well With Hyatt Loyalists

We like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card for many reasons, but one of the biggest is that it earns flexible rewards that can be transferred to airline and hotel partners, providing potentially outsized value for your points.

One of the card’s best transfer partners is the World of Hyatt. Points transfer 1:1, making it a straightforward way to have World of Hyatt points available for free hotel award nights.

The card also comes with excellent travel insurance benefits.

Final Thoughts

While all the hotel programs’ flexible date calendars function slightly differently, they’re easy to use, and the results are worth the effort.

Even if your dates aren’t that flexible, changing your plans by just a day or 2 can make a huge difference. Broadening your searches and using the flexible date calendars in combo can also help you find properties you might not otherwise consider.
