If you’ve ever stayed at a Hampton by Hilton and thought, “I wish this place was better equipped for longer stays,” it might be time to take a look at Home2 Suites by Hilton.

Think of Home2 Suites as a pared-down version of Homewood Suites by Hilton — an all-suite, extended-stay, limited-service hotel brand for cost-savvy travelers seeking a modern home away from home.

Like Hampton by Hilton, Home2 Suites offers free breakfast and Wi-Fi to every guest and features both a consistent aesthetic and limited facilities. Where it differs are larger rooms with full kitchen appliances and on-site amenities (like outdoor grills and laundry rooms) that allow guests to be entirely self-sufficient.

Although the Tennessee-based brand was officially announced in 2009, it would be 2 more years before the first Home2 Suites would debut in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Today, the brand portfolio counts over 400 properties spread across the U.S. and Canada in both big cities and small towns, making it a convenient, budget-conscious choice for both business travelers and families.

Let’s dig into the details of what you can expect from your stay at a Home2 Suites by Hilton property.

Everything You Need To Know About Home2 Suites by Hilton

Home2 Suites by Hilton generally competes with other mid-tier, extended-stay hotel brands such as IHG’s Candlewood Suites and TownePlace Suites by Marriott.

Hilton classifies Home2 Suites as 1 of 3 upper midscale brands in the Hilton portfolio. Like Hampton by Hilton, on-site food and beverage options are limited, and room layouts and designs are consistent across its various locations.

As its name implies, every guest room is a suite — either a studio or a 1-bedroom built to accommodate extended-stay visitors. Layouts are spacious and customizable, living areas feature sleeper sofas, and in-suite kitchenettes come stocked with full-size refrigerators, dishwashers, and sinks, as well as china place settings to minimize waste.

Bottom Line: Although the furniture features pops of color, décor is otherwise basic and consistent across Home2 Suites hotels, so guests (generally) know what to expect.

On-Site Amenities

One of the things loyalists love about the Home2 Suites by Hilton brand is its consistency. No matter which location you stay at, with a few rare exceptions, you’ll always find the same amenities.

Every property in the Home2 Suites collection features what’s called the Oasis — an open, communal area connected to the lobby where guests are encouraged to socialize and work. Features include separate workspaces, a business zone with computers and printing services, a 24-hour convenience store, and a connected laundry and fitness space called Spin2 Cycle.

Aside from Oasis, Home2 guests have full use of an outdoor grilling patio, a lounge with fire pits, and a saltwater pool (which is outdoor at most properties, but not all).

This is all in addition to standard on-property perks including free Wi-Fi, complimentary hot and cold breakfast, and a pet-friendly policy for those who don’t want to leave their adopted family members behind — all of which makes getting away for longer periods of time that much easier and stress-free.

Eco-Friendly Ethos

Every saltwater pool at Home2 Suites by Hilton, like this one at the Home2 Suites by Hilton Sarasota Bradenton Airport in Florida, is free from harsh chlorine chemicals. Image Credit: Hilton

Home2 Suites is serious about sustainability and puts great effort towards making sure the impact of its properties is as gentle on the environment as possible. Low-flow faucets and showers, china sets at breakfast and inside suites, saline pools, carpets and floors made from recycled materials, and dual-flush toilets are just a few details you’ll find at Home2 Suites hotels.

The brand has also partnered with Clean the World, a nonprofit organization that recycles leftover hotel soaps and shampoos and distributes them to poverty-stricken communities around the globe, diverting landfill waste in the process.

Home2 Guarantee

Nervous about what to expect during your first Home2 Suites by Hilton stay? Put your worries to rest. The Home2 Guarantee promises a full refund if your overnight stay doesn’t deliver the level of comfort or cleanliness you were hoping for.

American Express Hilton Credit Cards

Using one of the 4 co-branded Hilton credit cards issued by American Express is a great way to rack up Hilton Honors points that can be redeemed for award stays at Home2 Suites by Hilton locations.

However, it must be noted you only earn 5 Hilton Honors points per dollar when you book a stay at a Home2 Suites by Hilton, whereas most other Hilton hotels let you earn 10 points per dollar — something to keep in mind if maximizing point earnings is important to you.

Hilton Honors loyalty program

Although achieving status with Hilton Honors will not earn you any big additional perks at Home2 Suites hotels, it does go a long way at other property brands where breakfast is not typically included and room upgrades are much more desired.

Hot Tip: Free breakfast and space-available room upgrades are among the benefits of holding the Hilton Surpass card, which automatically grants you Gold status. Your fifth night will also be free for award stays of 5 nights or more — a benefit also included with the Hilton Honors card that grants cardholders Silver status. Both of these cards are great choices for Hilton loyalists!

Although Home2 Suites by Hilton properties are by and large incredibly affordable, it’s always nice to get even more value for your money — which you can do by using your Hilton Honors points to redeem award nights.

Using Hilton’s online Points Explorer tool is a great way to see the maximum number of points an award stay will cost.

Below, we’ve listed the top 10 most popular Home2 Suites by Hilton properties across the country based on demand and search volume.

1. Home2 Suites by Hilton Orlando/International Drive South (Florida)

The barbecue area sits adjacent to the pool at Florida’s Home2 Suites by Hilton Orlando/International Drive South. Image Credit: Hilton

A free shuttle bus to Walt Disney World Resort is all that separates you from world-class fun when you book a room at the Home2 Suites on International Drive. This 3-star stay is perfect for families who seek value but still want to be close to the action.

Rooms are comfortable, clean, and spacious, and the on-site amenities come standard — free breakfast, an outdoor pool, an alfresco barbecue patio with free-to-use grills, fire pits — but what guests really pay to stay here for are the surrounding attractions just minutes away.

When you don’t want to take advantage of your in-suite kitchen, the buzzy restaurants and shops of International Drive are just a short walk down the road, including the Orlando Premium Outlets. Universal Studios Florida is 20 minutes away by car, while Disney and SeaWorld Orlando are even closer. Complimentary on-site self-parking is available.

Pets up to 30 pounds are allowed for a $100 non-refundable fee. For an award stay, redemptions range from 24,000 to 40,000 Hilton Honors points a night. Otherwise, cash rates hover around $90 for a studio suite.

2. Home2 Suites by Hilton Orlando Near Universal (Florida)

Families love the pool area at Home2 Suites by Hilton Orlando Near Universal. Image Credit: Hilton

Like its sister property down the road, Home2 Suites by Hilton Orlando Near Universal is located directly off International Drive, with 1 major difference: Universal Orlando Resort is just 1 mile (and 5 minutes by car away).

Because the hotel is an official resort partner, there’s even a free scheduled shuttle bus that connects to Universal Orlando Resort.

Opened in 2019, this Home2 Suites property is a relatively new location but still features typical brand amenities, including complimentary Wi-Fi and breakfast, an outdoor pool, laundry and fitness services, a grab-and-go marketplace, and even a play area for dogs — an added perk of its pet-friendly policy. On-site parking is complimentary and pets are allowed for a $75 fee.

Award stays can be redeemed for a flat 40,000 Hilton Honors points per night at this property, while cash rates average about $100 for a studio suite.

3. Home2 Suites by Hilton Philadelphia – Convention Center, PA (Pennsylvania)

Outside Home2 Suites by Hilton Philadelphia – Convention Center. Image Credit: Hilton

The City of Brotherly Love will be at your fingertips during a stay at the Home2 Suites by Hilton Philadelphia – Convention Center. As its name suggests, the convention center sits 1 block away, which attracts a fair number of business travelers and conference attendees.

Still, families love the hotel’s central location as well, which also sits within walking distance of major Philadelphia sites like Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Amenities like free breakfast, Wi-Fi, and kitchenettes in suites all come standard. However, the saltwater pool is located indoors at this location (likely owing to Philadelphia’s brutal winters.) Self-parking costs $43, and there’s a $125 non-refundable fee for pets (50 pounds maximum).

Award night redemptions are a little pricier at Home2 Suites by Hilton’s Philadelphia property — between 37,000 and 50,000 points per night. Paid rates are also a little high, around $195.

4. Home2 Suites by Hilton Nashville Vanderbilt, TN (Tennessee)

The Oasis space at Home2 Suites by Hilton Nashville Vanderbilt. Image Credit: Hilton

Despite the brand’s chain origins, nods to Nashville ensure you know exactly what city you’re staying in at this Home2 Suites by Hilton — like the colorful silhouettes of musicians on the walls (psst — see if you can spot the King of Rock and Roll!).

Free breakfast is served in the Oasis and snacks and essentials are available around the clock at the 24-hour convenience store. Every room is a suite with a kitchenette, flat-screen TV, and complimentary Wi-FI, and a small lap pool called the Spa supplements the fitness center.

From here, you’re just minutes from great Nashville attractions like Music Row, Ryman Auditorium, and the Country Music Hall of Fame. There is a $29 fee for self-parking (this is the city, after all), and the pet fee is $75.

For an award stay, you’ll need to redeem between 44,000 and 50,000 Hilton Honors points. Paid rates, on average, hover around $145.

5. Home2 Suites by Hilton Nashville Downtown Convention Center (Tennessee)

The colorful Oasis space at Home2 Suites by Hilton Nashville Downtown Convention Center. Image Credit: Hilton

This Home2 Suites by Hilton might be most associated with the Music City Center down the street, but leisure travelers love it as much as the corporate crowd thanks to its unbeatable central location.

Big-name attractions including the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ryman Auditorium, Bridgestone Arena (home of the Nashville Predators), and the Johnny Cash Museum are all just a stone’s throw away.

When you’re not catching a concert or digging into Nashville’s food scene, take advantage of more than just the hotel’s free breakfast and Wi-Fi. There’s an outdoor deck with its own plunge pool as well as a nicely equipped fitness center.

Owing to its downtown address, the hotel charges $15 a day for self-parking and $25 for valet parking, as well as $75 for pets up to 50 pounds — a price that increases the longer you stay.

Award night redemptions at this Nashville location are also a little high — between 49,000 and 60,000 Hilton Honors points per night. Planning to pay by cash or card? Studio suites average about $150 per night.

6. Home2 Suites by Hilton Dover, DE (Delaware)

Relax by the fire pits at Home2 Suites by Hilton Dover, DE. Image Credit: Hilton

The capital city of America’s first state is steeped in history, and you’ll be right in the thick of it when you stay at the Home2 Suites by Hilton Dover, DE. The hotel sits smack in the center of Dover’s historic district, which means landmarks both old and new (like the Old State House and the Biggs Museum of American Art) are well within reach.

Suites are customizable and spacious, with living areas and kitchenettes — charming spots to whip up a meal when you’re not exploring the surrounding restaurants. Have work to do? A 24-hour business center, free Wi-Fi, and communal hangout spots (including an outdoor fire pit lounge) are there when you need them.

For a bit of R&R, hit up the indoor saline pool or grab a snack from the 24-hour market if you’re still hungry after the complimentary breakfast. Self-parking is also free and pets are welcome, though there is a $75 fee (and an additional $50 charge if you bring a second pet).

Expect to redeem anywhere from 25,000 to 40,000 Hilton Honors points per night for an award stay at this property. If you’re paying by cash or card, standard suites average about $130 per night.

7. Home2 Suites by Hilton Phoenix Chandler (Arizona)

The pool area gets tons of sun at Home2 Suites by Hilton Phoenix Chandler, in Arizona. Image Credit: Hilton

The name of this Home2 Suites by Hilton is a little misleading. When you book a stay here, you’ll actually be in Chandler, just southwest of Phoenix — a park-filled city known for its museums, tech companies, and desert landscapes.

Mostly used by business travelers, this extended-stay property is a convenient escape. Just 126 rooms — studios or 1-bedroom suites — are spacious and comfortable with living areas and kitchenettes. Free Wi-Fi and breakfast come standard, and the outdoor pool provides a welcome respite from the desert heat.

Self-parking is complimentary, and pets up to 50 pounds are welcome for a $75 fee.

Award stays here range between 38,000 and 40,000 Hilton Honors points per night. Cash rates hover near $170 per night for a studio suite.

8. Home2 Suites by Hilton Newark Airport (New Jersey)

The outdoor fire pits at Home2 Suites by Hilton Newark Airport. Image Credit: Hilton

As its name suggests, this property is perfect for anyone who needs a place to crash before an early flight or during a long layover at Newark Airport (EWR). The property essentially sits immediately next to the airport, and the free airport shuttle service is welcome — especially considering self-parking costs $16 a day.

Whether you’re in town on business or checking in for an extended weekend, you’ll have everything you need to make the most of your long stay — free breakfast and Wi-Fi, suites with kitchenettes, an indoor pool, a fitness and laundry center, and utilities to barbecue or catch up on emails.

Small pets up to 25 pounds are welcome, though the fee — $150 — is the highest we’ve seen at Home2 locations. You’ll need to redeem between 28,000 and 40,000 Hilton Honors points for an award night here. Otherwise, paid rates average about $145 for a studio suite.

9. Home2 Suites by Hilton San Antonio Airport, TX (Texas)

A 2 Queen Bed Studio at Home2 Suites by Hilton San Antonio Airport in Texas. Image Credit: Hilton

Located right off I-410, Home2 Suites by Hilton San Antonio Airport sits within easy driving distance to major points of interest. From here, you’ll be just 1.5 miles (5 minutes) from San Antonio International Airport (SAT), 8 miles (12 minutes) from downtown San Antonio and the San Antonio Zoo, and 13 miles (16 minutes) from Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

Even better, a free airport shuttle is available to take to and from the hotel, so anyone that is just staying the night doesn’t even have to rent a car. Even if you do, on-site parking is free — as is breakfast, Wi-Fi, access to the outdoor pool, and use of the meeting room that can accommodate 15 guests.

A maximum of 2 pets up to 35 pounds each are allowed per room for a $75-per-pet non-refundable fee.

For an award stay, you can anticipate redeeming around 30,000 Hilton Honors points per night. Cash rates average about $80 for a studio suite.

10. Home2 Suites San Antonio Downtown – Riverwalk, TX (Texas)

Chandeliers light the Oasis common area at Home2 Suites San Antonio Downtown Riverwalk. Image Credit: Hilton

Even closer to the city than Home2 Suites by Hilton’s airport location, this hotel puts its guests just a 5-minute stroll from key city sights, including San Antonio’s restaurant-and-tree-lined River Walk, as well as the famous Alamo.

For business travelers, all it takes to get to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center is a 5-minute drive.

Back home, guests enjoy typical Home2 amenities including free hot breakfast, an indoor pool, and laundry and fitness services. All 128 guest rooms are modern and spacious, with kitchenettes, sleeper sofas, and flat-screen TVs.

On-site parking is valet only and costs $35 per day. Pets up to 30 pounds (up to 2 maximum) are welcome for $75 each.

Award stay redemptions average about 40,000 points per night. Paid rates hover around $140 for a standard room.

Final Thoughts

While limited facilities (like the lack of a full-service restaurant, spa, or bar) and generic décor might be a turn-off for some travelers, Home2 Suites by Hilton’s spacious suites, dependable service, and complimentary perks like breakfast and Wi-Fi — all for consistently good value — might be exactly what your upcoming trip needs.

Plus, thanks to the Home2 Guarantee, you never have to feel anything but confident about enjoying your stay — or you’ll get your money back.

So the next time you’re planning an extended U.S. getaway and just want to keep things simple, consider adding a Home2 Suites by Hilton to your research list.

Yes! Home2 Suites by Hilton bills itself as a home away from home for every family member, and on top of that, the brand is not just open to dogs. Home2 properties also welcome cats, while select properties even accept birds and reptiles.

As long as your pet adheres to the property’s size and weight limits, and as long as you agree to pay for any property damage and manage noise, you’re good to go.

Expect to pay a flat, non-refundable fee for each pet, which varies by hotel (typically $75 to $150). Size limitations also vary by property, though a 2-pet maximum per room is standard no matter where you check in.

Founded in 1989, Homewood Suites by Hilton is the older of the 2 brands, with slightly more locations and a slightly more upscale extended-stay experience than Home2 Suites by Hilton (which is considered mid-scale).

Although the brands offer many of the same amenities, Homewood Suites stands out by offering evening socials, where it serves beer, wine, and snacks.

About Lindsey Olander

Currently based in New York, Lindsey spent her childhood in Connecticut dreaming of far-off places. Her first flight was to Disney World at age 11. Her second flight was for a high school field trip to Italy, though travel as a career didn’t stick until she studied abroad in London during college and discovered the true power of her passport. Since then, she’s worked as a travel editor at Jetsetter and Travel + Leisure, where she reported on everything from African safaris to hot hotel openings to, yes, Disney World.

Hilton bedbugs

April 27, 2021

I was recently contacted on my Instagram page (@hiltonbedbugs) by a guest stating that the Home2 Suites by Hilton Middletown, NY would not honor the 100% money-back guarantee.

This issue has also been extremely common at Hampton inn by Hilton locations. Calls to guest assistance results in a “case” being opened and no further action is taken to get the guest a refund. Guest eventually gives up or does a chargeback on their credit card.
