One loyalty program that often flies under the radar is Virgin Red, the all-encompassing rewards currency for the Virgin Group.

Launched in the U.K. in 2021 and introduced to the U.S. market later that year, Virgin Red offers everything from cruises to curated travel packages abroad.

Here’s how you can earn and redeem points with Virgin Red to unlock memorable adventures this year.

Virgin Red vs. Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

Before we start exploring the different ways to redeem Virgin Red points, it’s helpful to know how Virgin Red and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club differ.

These are technically separate loyalty programs, so you need to sign up for each individually. Despite this, they’re meant to work hand in hand. Once your accounts are linked, you can easily transfer points between the two, meaning points are interchangeable whenever it suits your travel plans.

To be clear, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points can be redeemed for flight bookings. Since Virgin Atlantic is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, you’re not limited to just Virgin Atlantic flights — you can also use your points to book travel with partner airlines like Delta Air Lines, Air France, KLM, and more.

You use Virgin Red points to book all other travel redemptions, which is the main focus of this guide today. For the most up-to-date redemptions, bookmark the “Spend Virgin Points” page.

1. Embark on a Luxury Safari Getaway in Kenya

Did you know you can use Virgin Red points to book a luxury safari in Kenya? I was surprised to find this out, too.

With your points, you can unlock an incredible stay at Richard Branson’s safari camp, Mahali Mzuri, in the Maasai Mara or the sister property, Finch Hattons, in Tsavo West National Park.

The following rates are for 2 travelers. Each booking includes all meals and drinks (including alcohol), twice-daily game drives, and round-trip transfers to and from the nearest private airstrip:

  • Finch Hattons: 310,000 to 380,000 Virgin Red points for a 2-night stay. Additional nights can be added for 155,000 to 190,000 points per night.
  • Mahali Mzuri: 330,000 to 370,000 Virgin Red points for a 2-night stay, with extra nights ranging from 165,000 to 180,000 points each.

In 2025, Mahali Mzuri bookings are available from June 7 to 15 and November 1 to December 19. Finch Hattons offers a broader booking window, with availability from now through December 19, 2025.

Both luxury safari camps cost a pretty penny — you can expect to pay nearly $3,000 per night. Even at the top-tier redemption rate of 380,000 points for a 2-night stay, you could score an impressive value (over 1.6 cents per point!).

2. Relax in a Vineyard Retreat in South Africa

Wine lovers will definitely want to add a stay at the Mont Rochelle to their travel wish list. This stunning vineyard hotel, owned by Richard Branson, is located just an hour from Cape Town, South Africa, and the points redemption rates are impressive.

Now through December 19, 2025, you can book a 2-night stay for as few as 60,000 to 110,000 Virgin Red points, depending on the season. Want to extend your visit? Extra nights range from 30,000 to 55,000 points each.

This fall (South Africa’s spring), rooms are priced at around $1,330 per night, including taxes and fees. If your travel dates are flexible, you might be able to snag one of the lower redemption rates. But even at the higher end, you’re looking at a rewards value of 2 cents per point (or more).

3. Visit Richard Branson’s Private Island in the Caribbean

If you’re sitting on a mountain of credit card points, why not put them toward an unforgettable getaway on a private Caribbean island? Right now, you can redeem 2,000,000 Virgin Red points for a 7-night stay on Necker Island — Sir Richard Branson’s ultra-luxurious retreat — with various dates available through the end of 2025.

What exactly do millions of points get you? The rate covers 2 guests in a room with a private terrace and breathtaking ocean views. It also includes all meals, unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and round-trip boat transfers from Beef Island/Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS).

For perspective, this same 7-night stay would cost $31,151 in cash, so you’d be getting excellent value at around 1.6 cents per point.

4. Sail on a Virgin Voyages Cruise

Virgin Group brings a fresh, playful twist to cruises in the best way possible. Virgin Voyages is an adults-only cruise line, which is a departure from the family-focused atmosphere on many other ships. The goal? To create a space where grown-ups can unwind, have fun, and connect with fellow travelers in a more relaxed, social setting.

Most cabins (86%) come with private balconies, and the rooms are impressively spacious by cruise standards. Plus, they’re equipped with tech-forward features that make it easy to stay connected, whether you’re exploring onboard activities or planning your time ashore.

Virgin Voyages puts a strong emphasis on dining, offering a wide range of onboard restaurants that are both diverse and delicious. Whether you’re craving pizza, Korean barbecue, or a classic steakhouse experience, all meals (excluding alcoholic drinks) are included in your cruise fare.

You’ll want to check Virgin Red’s website frequently (or subscribe to our newsletter, where we inform you of the latest Virgin Voyages points deals). Just a couple of months ago, Virgin Red offered more than a dozen sailings with points and miles, with several under 200,000 points.

These 6-figure point rates might raise eyebrows, but there’s important context to consider. These rates cover 2 people sharing a cabin and include all meals and onboard activities, making it one of the best all-inclusive vacation deals you can book with points and miles. Even better, these points rates put you in a Sea Terrace room, not just an entry-level cabin.

Take the summer 2025 Mediterranean cruise as an example, which is one of Virgin Voyages’ most sought-after itineraries. During peak summer, paying cash would set you back $5,832.

Virgin Voyages August 2025

Most recently, we saw the same itinerary on sale for 385,000 Virgin Red points. As such, you’re getting about 1.5 cents per point in value, which is higher than our valuation of 1.4 cents per point.

Hot Tip:

In 2023, I sailed on a European Virgin Voyages cruise through Barcelona, Marseille, Cannes, Palma de Mallorca, and Ibiza — and the experience on board was nothing short of amazing. Using points for this experience makes it even more rewarding.

5. Stay at Virgin Hotels in Major Cities

You don’t need hundreds of thousands of Virgin Red points to unlock a memorable getaway. Thanks to Virgin Hotels (part of the broader Virgin Group), you can book stylish urban stays for as few as 25,000 points per night. This year’s available destinations include Chicago, Dallas, London, Nashville, New Orleans, and New York City, making this one of the standout sweet spots for Virgin Red redemptions.

Virgin Hotels London Shoreditch
Newest Virgin Hotel in London-Shoreditch. Image Credit: Virgin Hotels

To redeem Virgin Points for Virgin Hotels, you must be a member of The Know, which is Virgin Hotels’ loyalty program, link your Virgin Red account, and transfer your points to The Know when booking.

While the redemption values will vary depending on the season, you’ll want to do the math and make sure you’re scoring at least 1.5 cents per value to make these hotel stays worth it.

How To Earn a Ton of Virgin Red Points

Many of these luxury experiences require a hefty balance of rewards, but fortunately, it’s easy to rack up Virgin Red points.

To emphasize, the distinction between Virgin Red and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club is also important because both programs are transfer partners of all the major credit card rewards programs. All rewards transfer to Virgin Red or Virgin Atlantic Flying Club at a 1:1 ratio, so there’s no math to calculate when moving points over.

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Virgin Red

Another great way to boost your Virgin Red points is by pooling them. This year, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club introduced the option to combine points with friends and family through a Household account. Once accounts are linked, Flying Club points are automatically shared.

Unfortunately, at the time of writing, Virgin Red points don’t pool automatically. However, you can still combine them by contacting customer service and requesting a manual transfer — making it easier to work toward your next redemption together.

This points pooling feature is especially handy since most of the aforementioned Virgin Red redemptions are designed for 2 travelers — and having 2 people collect points is always better than one.

Best Credit Cards To Earn Virgin Red Points

You can imagine how the potential Virgin Red points start to stack up, considering that all of the rewards earned on major credit cards can transfer over to the Virgin Red program.

While welcome bonus offers are the fastest way to get a huge haul of points quickly, maximizing rewards rates on existing cards simultaneously can be a good long-term strategy.

For example, if you wanted to redeem points for a 10-night cruise and need to accrue approximately 350,000 points, you could apply for a card or 2 and maximize existing rewards rates for dining, groceries, and other common household expenses for several months. Having your partner apply for several cards themselves can help you leap to the finish line.

That said, Virgin Red refreshes its rewards frequently. So if you don’t have enough points now, you can expect similar opportunities to appear in the future.

Here are some of our favorite cards from the programs listed above to get you ready for that future redemption:
